"By all of the gods, Jesus, Buddha, what have you... you damned fool." I said with acid dripping with every word. All of Patrick's sibilings were probably already dead if they didn't get those fortifications setup right away before the hordes became to large... even then the walls may have failed.
Patrick seemed to shake himself free of the stupor he was under for just a moment and looked a bit confused. However after a breath he spoke again. "I know... I just need to get them out... I'm sorry." He looked and sounded genuinely apologetic about the deception. "If there was any other way to get them out I wouldn't have lied to you."
"What if they are already dead. We could be driving into a massive horde then we would end up just like those shambling bastards." I said waving my hand out the window at a single zombie that seemed to have noticed our vehicle was idling on the off ramp. "I will be fine but if you were honest with me I would have made the trip alone and you would be back at the base recovering instead of being out here." Getting to the pier and back would have been much easier during the night when I could move without holding back. But now I was in a car with a wounded man to go look for his family that he probably had sent to their deaths.
Growling I threw the car back into park and started to drive with his instructions, following the roads as best as possible... that is until we came across a massive pileup blocking the entire street. On the other side was uncountable revenants. Throwing it into reverse I saw they were coming from behind and to our left. "You have to be kidding me!" I yelled while slapping the steering wheel, part of it bent almost breaking. "Patrick... take the car and get back to the compound. I'll lead them away, once I shake the horde I'll go to the warehouse to find your family then lead them back to the mansion under the cover of night. If we are not back by tomorrow evening something has likely come up. Understand?"
"What? No!" He yelled as I undid my seatbelt and practically threw myself from the car. I only slowed long enough to grab my rifle from when it lay. I fired off two rounds, not into the air, that would be wasteful, but killing the two nearest zombies.
"Now! Go!" I yelled as I began to advance towards the blockade of wrecked cars, firing rounds calmly and carefully to kill a zombie with nearly every shot. When they are pinned against metal by others they are much easier to finish off. I heard scrabbling from the car, Patrick should have been getting into the driver's seat. A few seconds later and the engine roared to life moving away from my position. Excellent, he can follow orders even when he doesn't agree with them. He probably thought I was sacrificing myself so he could get away, but I had no plans on having my undeath end here.
Once I was sure he was far enough away from the battleground I dropped my rifle so it would hang from its sling and let out a battle cry that was somewhere between a yell and an animalistic hiss as I leapt the wreckage. A hand lashing out and crushing or tearing a head from its neck. Without a leader these mindless revenants were useless against one of my level. I advanced down the road, almost as if taking a stroll as I ripped through the horde, leaving a walkway of bodies behind me as I did so. If there was anyone that could see this happening it was unlikely they would survive much longer, this horde seems like they had been here for some time and I was at least two miles from the pier.
I spent approximately twenty minutes to get to the far side of the horde. Once I was free from them I simply ran straight. The speed at which the revenants moved wouldn't be able to catch a human at a brisk jog let alone a vampire running at full speed. I reached the pier a short time later. To my surprise the barricade was still standing, however the most shocking thing was that there wasn't a mass of revenants attempting to break down the wall. There were a few bodies hung from the fence by chains or ropes, they didn't seem to be revenants but normal humans that had been killed with firearms or some sort of savage melee weapon.

I approached and sniffed a few times. I couldn't sense anything that would drive away the revenants, no holiness came from the barricade so I would be able to easily cross it, a single leap and I could get inside. However the lack of the walking dead made me cautious, something was wrong here and I did not like it. There were very few things that could drive off revenants. Faith, which I should be able to sense just by being near it. Magic, which again I should be able to sense, I had some minor accomplishments with it but was no where near considered a true sorcerer or wizard. Then there were other supernatural beasts, which are too numerous to count and some of which would be unfortunate to run into.
Demons and 'angels' among them, though none of them ever spoke about a creator or gods, they claimed to be agents of 'Evil and Chaos' or 'Good and Order'. I wanted nothing to do with either of those types of Outsiders.
I walked around the perimeter slowly to 'feel out' the obvious base. I couldn't see or sense anything that stood out right away, the simplest option would be to get them to reveal themselves. I reached one end of the fence and was about to head back the other way when the wind shifted away from the shore and blew across the warehouse.
"... fucking dogs." I muttered to myself. I recognized the smell coming from the warehouse. It was gods forsaken werewolves on the otherside. They shouldn't be able to drive away hordes of the revenants on their own but if they had a powerful alpha or shaman they could have used some sort of trick to get them revenants to move on, or even led them away before transforming and coming back. Revenants had no interest in animals, only living mortal humans. This allowed shifters like werewolves the ability to transform into their beast form and escape without any issue.
I took a deep breath before reaching up and taking off my goggles and mask, stuffing them into a pouch. The sun stung my skin but did no more than that as I leapt over the wall and landed calmly. I saw that there were about a dozen humanoids rushing at me as I was in the air their weapons drawn.
I was about to speak as I landed before a shot rang out and a bullet tore through my heart and left lung causing my words to come out as a wheeze and spray of blood instead. I followed the shot to the one holding the weapon and they seemed a bit shocked that I didn't so much as stumble when the round ripped through my chest. Before anyone else could react I was in front of him, my hand punching through his chest and pulling his heart out. "Next person will have their limbs ripped off... I invoke the rights of hospitality."
The crowd was stunned but one woman shook free of her shock first. "Why would we offer you hospitality corpse? You killed pack just now."
"And if I was mortal I would be dead dog, are the ancient accords no longer valid because your pack shot first? Blood for blood, tooth for tooth... in this case, a heart for a heart." I laughed a bit as I licked the blood off my gloved hand. Tasted a bit leathering due to the glove but I needed blood to recover the amount burned to heal my wounds. "I can kill you all if you prefer but I came here for a reason.Bring me to speak with your Alpha and no further bloodshed will be necessary."
The crowd seemed to hesitate, after all I was a single person, the eleven of them could fight me if they transformed, right? I almost wished that they would so I could show them the difference between a pathetic and weak new blood and an ancient one such as myself. A pack may be dangerous to a lone vampire in most cases, they may even injure me if we fought to the last but I wouldn't ever believe they would be able to finish me off. "Now!" I barked at them roughly and they backed down.
The woman who had spoken up first motioned for me to follow here. "Fine, come our Alpha is in the den." She said then spat on the floor towards my feet.
"Thank you, I shall follow your lead."
