CHAPTER 11

In fact, it was strange for Isaia to feel something new in himself, especially considering the ease with which he manipulated it, having been without it until recently.

It was beyond his comprehension that living an average and ordinary life, in other words boring, would allow him to touch something so exciting, albeit unknown, that the young man promised himself he would fix at the earliest opportunity.

But the element of longing, with no small desire to explore it thoroughly, stimulated the awakening of the incredible adventurous spirit within the lad.

He wanted to test his abilities, to strengthen them if possible, and to learn new things. It was magical to feel somehow new and far superior to his old self.

There was one thing, though, and that was the bloody and disgusting element of this new ability, for people would obviously not take this innovation of his for something bona fide and trustworthy, but the sense of power and thoughts of might overshadowed everything else. Even the still-unquenched hunger and instinctive call from the other creatures which have been a little neglected.

Before, he didn't know what this new sensation was or where it was coming from, now he was sure that the sensation was coming from anything with blood, but for the sake of accuracy he decided to do his own hunt and see for himself the many unconfirmed conclusions of his own.

Realizing the need to keep his thoughts away from the strange ability and concentrate on what was most important at the moment, which was to satisfy his primary needs, Isaia began to plan his next action. It consisted of simply looking for other targets and victims, which would also help confirm the hypothesis about the relationship between sensations and blood, and the ability that came from it.

The next victim was not long in coming, all it took was to concentrate on the nearest sensation of call and in a couple of minutes Isaia was watching the hare, which had gone out at night to do its chores.

Sometimes it would be difficult to find targets for hunting if someone else were in Isaia's place, but this factor is negated if there is a helper in the form of a blood source sensor, from which it is known in advance that the target is nearby. If it were otherwise, then the guy would never be able to find something small and sensitive enough in the dimly lit and dull pore.

The main thing was to find the target before it became aware of your presence, and then it was a matter of patience and waiting, which Isaia certainly did not have, so the first attempt to get closer was a total failure.

Having his own experience and excellent understanding that it would be impossible to approach the beast slowly, he had to make adjustments in planning.

Isaia found one weakness in his ability that was overly important. It was the distance at which he could manipulate the creature's blood. Due to the lack of reliable information, which was due to the small number of attempts and experiments, there was only a rough guess as to the limitations of this ability.

The experiments themselves cannot be conducted based on the factor that such experiments require a target, and it must be alive in the first place. The latter became clear after trying to manipulate and interact with the carcass of the first prey he caught. Isaia had tried to summon it or control it in some way, but all was to no avail.

It was this phenomenon that gave the young man a strong belief that his ability had a direct correlation to blood. If it were otherwise, then the carcass of a dead hare with not a drop of blood left in it, would be useful for any purpose.

Isaia had carefully checked the carcass, he tore with his hands for several minutes. At the impossibility of doing the same with the individual parts, particularly the limbs, he crushed the flesh of the hare with a stone, to assure himself of his conjecture about the dried-to-the-last-drop-of-blood carcass of the long-eared one.

As for the ability itself, it is worth mentioning that it was possible to “reach” and take control of only that which was two or even three meters away from him, while longer distances were beyond his control.

Being a dozen meters away from the next hare, which was on a small lawn in the middle of the forest, there was no way to get control over it and kill it, which by the way ran away, noticing Isaia approaching him.

So, it was necessary to conduct experiments in the field and, in particular, in extreme conditions. The extremity consists in a recent audacious idea to turn on or so to speak respond to the call of the blood while on the run.

Yes, the plan was simple, primitive and ordinary as an ordinary small boulder that lies by the road - to run and approach the target at full speed, and “entering” already into the zone of control, to accomplish his act of killing, repeating what he had done before with the first hare and the poor man he met at the settlement, the thought of which every time drove the young man into gloomy mood, but alas the event all remembered and refreshed in memory.

Isaia concentrated on his senses again, and felt the closest call in a different direction than the one the last hare had fled. The animal would run away in fear for a long time, and it would be foolish to follow it if there was another and more suitable target at a closer distance.
