V2 Prologue: The Gears of War Turn

I wanted to pop this out a little early for those who enjoy Blood Born, and have been patiently waiting. ^.^

As any of you who have read Olympus will see, been a bit rough, and as such my updates have become slightly erratic, and daily updates will not be possible for either fiction for a time, but both will be updated every two days at the latest.

But I digress, this will be a prologue to show what is happening, Mostly it will be from an author narrative perspective. This may or may not change as I write it. Depends, I feel for the prologue it will be more descriptive and apparent from a narrative POV more than fixated character points of view.

As always, much love and cookies, and please, Follow, Rate, Favorite, and Comment.

----------------------------------------

The world has begun to enter a state of upheaval.

The beastmen Tribes to the west have suffered two terrible defeats at the hands of a tiny border fort known as Tridant between their Nation and that of the Draconian Empire.

The current King of the Beastmen Nation, Leo, has decided to step back from the course of invasion after the crushing defeat of his greatest general, and oldest enemy, Uram.

There are still small skirmishes along the border itself, but nothing to truly be noteworthy for the last several weeks.

The residents of Tridant themselves have begun to lower their guard, all but the Pridelings that currently resided there while they worked on repair, and expanding the Border fort turned city due to the influx of the civilians all returning home, or other Cat Beastmen Tribesman who made their home deeper in the Draconian Empire moving to be with their people; thus strengthening this key point of defence with further numbers.

The Demon Tribes scattered across the continent were themselves gearing for war however. Many speculated at these events, and noticed changes within the Demonic ranks. Everyone, no matter the nation, felt war would begin anew as whatever new power in the Abyss took hold and organized them into a single fist to strike against all before them.

The Draconian people, with the aid of Pridelings, managed to maintain the treaty with the Demon Tribe residing within their borders, it was tenuous at best however.

This, in part, was due to the hidden arm of The Blood Father, leader of the Pridelings. The name of this hidden arm, was Hawk. One of the Ten, a ruling power who held control over much of the Prideling people, and had begun to form houses within the society to focus on breeding unique traits from their own bloodline into the general population.

Their population had begun to expand as well, just a few thousand, but it was time to expand beyond just Hyborium forest before it became to overcrowded, and the resources of their ancient forest home became depleted.

With this in mind, The Blood Father had ordered hawk to begin instigating conflict, disagreements and general hatred between the people that lived in the Draconian Empire, and the Demonic Tribes that spawned there that were led by Damocles.

Through this, The Blood Father furthered his own ambition slowly in the weeks that followed what became known as 'The Bulwark Conflict' for Tridant had earned another name, Bulwark, for managing to hold out against overwhelming odds.

To the North, the savage tribes of Giants were beginning to muster their people as well, a Savage and cunning youngling had taken several tribes and formed a single massive one. He was systematically gaining sway, and control over the dozens of tribes in that frozen tundra. Each Nation watched that  border more carefully now. All feared the innate savagery of the Giant, and there strength. But even more so it was feared when directed by one with intelligence.

To the South, the secretive creatures of nature, seldom seen, though oft described as tree folk, and the Fairies that tended there people hardened the Bramble like barricade that blocked out the outside world, making it more dangerous to pass through, the few who tried were never heard from again.

To the East, the coalition of Elves, Dwarfs, and Men continued their war against the Pirate Nation several miles off the coast.

It was a brutal,  bloody, war at sea.

The Pirate Nation was more a mix match of all the species that did not fit the mold, even a few Pridelings were in their ranks; very few made it there however because oft times they were killed if they did not fit into the society. Rare was the case some could find their way into that nation alive.

However, the battle was coming to a head. With matters growing worse inland, and along their borders, the coalition was forming a treaty to ignore coastal raids within reason, and to prevent as much loss of life as they could.

The Demon Tribes were marshalling their power slowly, the Giant of the North were becoming a cohesive threat. The Draconian Empire proofed it needed dealt with, word had reached their ears of the 'Bulwark' and the fear they felt at the creatures mentioned was just.

They knew of the Pridelings, and the Draconians themselves matched in ferocity and battle strength. But the news a small pride of, and a scant few hundred cat Beastmen had held off two massive armies numbering in the thousands, sent a chill down their spines.

As such, they too began to form their alliances, their treaties, and worked to strengthen their borders.

With all of this upheaval, the rush to strengthen each Nation's military, and their defences; the purposeful goading, and manipulation of several people by The Blood Fathers hidden arm one thing went unnoticed to all.

Far out at sea, to the North-East, well beyond the known maps of Men, Dwarves, Elves, Demons, and Beastmen. Known only to a very few ancient beings as the birthplace, the original home of the Pridelings, once known as another species, lay an island shrouded in mist.

The mist alone was not a true deterrent, but the massive sea creatures long thought extinct that hunted the coast for the unwary was a true hindrance. Along with the rocky outcroppings.

On this island, should any make it there, would be found ruins of a long forgotten past, ancient stone, and wood buildings that showed a once glorious people of industry, and power.

Not a spec of life was on this island, nothing could be seen by any who reached its shores, aside from the sea monsters, nothing. Not a bird, not even plants. It was all fossilized, almost as if forced into that state of solidification.

However, at the very center of this island lay a temple, old and nearing decrapid status, but still in once piece.

Murals depicted all over of the Pridelings ancestors would be seen, each painted in blood, and inlaid with the stone Amber. It showed their history. That they were not always bloodthirsty war mongers. That at one time, they were a peaceful tribe that fought only when needed.

It showed how this changed slowly, like a slow rot, as a young member began to become more apparent, the same figure over centuries. It showed this figure grow to become a leader, to turn this once peaceful people into the warmongers they are now, to such an extent it was ingrained into their very DNA.

It also showed how this figure betrayed his people for more power, the power to rule the world, to become a God.

He sacrificed so many to a power so old it had long since left their world, but enough remained to coerce, and twist to his will.

The very last image, showed only death. Corpses all over, a single female fleeing the island with a small bundle in her arms.

That was the history of the Pridelings laid bare, on that island.  Along with The Blood Fathers beginning, so many centuries ago.

But what few would ever live to see, was the very center of that temple. It held a massive bone carved throne. On it sat a skeleton, its skull resting on its palm, to all the world alive feeling, and bored.

The power that saturated the halls surrounding this skeleton drove people mad, bent their wills to serve it.

Now however, this stagnant corpse was waking up, a breath of air entered the room, the last and most trivial portion of the power shock that echoed across the world when the young Pridelings Rage awoke his Bloo Familiar.

The bones jerk, and twist and it seems as though the skeleton smiled. It needed only that small nudge, it was time to return to the world, and play once more with the one who always tried to kill him.

The skeleton rose, and flesh boiled out of the oddly shaped Ruby stone that set in it's ribcage, though it was a twisted, corrupted version with black shooting through out it's core.

Muscle tissue, Organs, Flesh, all grew and formed over the bleached bones slowly; originating from the minute blood left within the cores center.

What met the world anew when finished, was a humble looking male specimen, hairless, with amber eyes, the border tinged purple, and the pupils in a constant crescent slit shape.

A voice echoed out from this temple, carried by the wind, and the monsters of old, the creatures that hunted the islands shores hid in pure, undiluted fear.

"The King has returned..."

The voice echoed out beyond the island, it was aimed for one person alone, a game these two played within this mad creatures mind. Only he would hear it.

It took minutes for this sentence to reach it's destination within Hyborium. The Blood Father, it's target, widened his eyes in shock; a slow predatory smile forming his lips.

'Damian, Father.' he would think, and begin to escalate his plans sooner. It would take time for the mad king to regain his powers and feel comfortable confronting him again.

Even as this personal struggle between two bound by blood, and a history of pain would cause the world to erupt in war beyond imagination, all for a single man's revenge, other, even older powers were waking.

No one could foresee that this young Prideling, Rage, would become the center of this world's power struggle, not even The Blood Father would expect any of the old ones to wake at his son awakening, he only wanted the mad king.

Time would tell if these powers would rend their world asunder, or change the people they once governed for the better.

All the while, the young Prideling knew nothing of the events that would unfold, his own destiny, and those he lead.

Time would be it's own author to his tale of war, and glory, trials and tribulations, and if he would fall to the Destiny placed before him, or forge his own path against all.
