Moving

Moving

After I finish my vomiting session, I push myself up. Red dude. Red dude gave me a skill. How do I use it?

"Disguise."

Nothing seems to be happening. I close my eyes and channel my inner persona.

"Disguise."

Still nothing. What the heck? Why can't I do this? I imagine myself invisible to the rest of the world.

"Disguise."

Nada. I sigh as I open my eyes. The aching pain from before has reduced to a dull throbbing, so I'm able to think more clearly. I should get out of here. I push myself up, successfully this time, and look around.

Fallen rocks are everywhere. There's a broken balcony in front of me, the one I was just hiding under. To my right is a caved in building of some sort. I shiver. The cave in looks like something big just smashed into it from the top. That's ... Can people do that? Looking to my left, I see my father. I can tell it's my father, I don't know how, but I just can. I move closer. The dude who stabbed him - he was wearing white and gold clothing, so I'll call him Goldy - had pulled his sword out of my fathers chest. There was a large, gaping hole in his chest. Above him, on the wall, there was dried blood. I guess after Goldy had pulled his sword out, the body had slid down the wall. He's wearing a purple vest and dark pants of some sort, and his eyes are dull scarlet, just like mine. His hair is black, however, and his vampire teeth are much larger. He's very tall - maybe around seven feet? Big dude, by all accounts. Hey, since when was I able to analyze a body like this? Isn't this dude my father? Some part of me responds with a shrug. I don't know why, but I don't care. He's not my father, he's a corpse, hunched over against a wall. I don't know him.

Since when was I so heartless?

Since the time I got hit by falling rubble, apparently.

I look at him for a little while longer, and I notice a small key sticking out of his pocket.

Pocket?

I look down at myself. I have a fine white embroidered gown on me. No pockets.

I kneel down and pick up the key. Looting a dead corpse is a bit..., well, not just a bit in bad taste. But I might need the key at some point, and it'd be better to have it than not have it. On that note, there's probably more stuff inside the body. I should check.

The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings.

Should I check? I mean, what the hell? This is so disrespectful-

The dead are dead. What use do they have for the respect of the living?

Honestly, that's a fair point.

Getting over my surprisingly small aversion to looting corpses, I bend down and search through his pockets. Nothing. I flip him over. There's a small knife holstered on his hip. I take the knife and holster. I search him again, but he's got nothing else on him. Sighing, I put him back in the same angle he was before.

Now what? I look behind me. There's a small path leading out of the ruins. I could go that way, but Goldy and his friends went that way. There's a high chance of me being caught. Far in front of me, where the ruins end, the forest beings. These ruins look more or less like a castle, surrounded by forests. Even if I go into the forest, I have little ability to do anything. Where do I go from there? What do I do? I need more information to proceed, yet I don't have any. All I can do is wander around the castle ruins, and hope I find something of use.

The more I wander, the more dead bodies I find. To be more precise, the more maids and butlers I find buried under rubble. Jeez, Goldy was not thinking of the civilians inside the castle when he attacked it, was he? My stomach growls. I need to find something to eat. There's most likely some sort of kitchen here I can raid, but where is it? Pushing aside more rubble, my eyes light up, because I found it! I found the food! This was clearly a storage facility, considering all the racks set up. There was quite a bit of food, or, well, things that looked like food. Heck, I didn't even know if they were edible or not. However, the question of edible or not is left to the full - I was starving, and I was willing to take chances. I pulled down something that looked like chicken, and took a bite.

...

It tasted like shit. But! But! But I did not vomit. And so, I ate most of the rack.

... I feel sick. This was a bad idea. I stumble out of the storage area, where I vomit out most of what I had eaten. Ugh. At least I'm not so hungry anymore. I need to get out of here, to some sort of civilization. But which way? I might get lost in the forest, but Goldy and co. might spot me if I head out through the path. A fairly large chance at death, either way, but I think I'll take the forest path. I remember some of the wilderness videos I've watched. Hopefully this turns out fine.

... Hopefully.

I make my way through the ruins, heading for the northern edge of the castle - the farthest away from the path. On my way there, I pass through a small courtyard. As I walk, I stumble over something, face-planting into the ground as a result. Ugh. I pick myself up and turn around, searching for the offending rock. But it wasn't a rock.

It was a pushed up trapdoor.

Examining the trapdoor, I can see that the surface was meant to blend in with the castle. So, it's some sort of secret entrance. I could fit through the trapdoor, no problem. Worst case, I'll have wasted an hour. Best case, I get something very useful.

Well then, I think I'll check it out.
