Chapter 12 : Entrance Exam Part 1

Silverwing High School

Although it was just a high school in a small city, its Pokémon program was renowned nationwide for its high admission standards and the many famous trainers it had produced.

One of the four Champions of the Trainer Alliance, the Dragon Champion, was also a graduate of this school.

Yet, despite its prestigious reputation, the school upheld a motto of “Enjoying youth as high school students,” offering a diverse range of extracurricular activities. Classes started at 7 a.m. and ended at 3 p.m., three hours earlier than at other schools, so that students could have additional time for themselves. The on-campus rules were also quite relaxed.

Initially, the school faced significant criticism for its lax rules. However, the school’s outstanding results year after year silenced the critics, and Silverwing High School’s name became well-known.

Today was the entrance exam day for the school.

Kai had woken up early and was already dressed and ready to leave.

Wearing a Charmander T-shirt to boost his partner's confidence and a sunhat, he looked at himself in the mirror and smiled. “Alright.”

“Gah.” Charmander, standing at his feet, extended his little paw.

“I understand.”

Kai nodded and stretched out his arm for a fist bump. “We’ve been waiting for this day for a long time.”

Suddenly, there was a noise from the balcony, and Mira peeked in, looking around.

“Kai, are you up?”

“Yes.” Kai walked out of the bathroom and greeted Mira, noticing she was wearing the same type of T-shirt, but with a Rowlet design.

It wasn’t surprising, as Mira had won these matching T-shirts from a lottery event last week. Although a Pokémon battle wasn’t part of the entrance examination for the academic program, she still wore it to make Rowlet happy.

“Where are your eyes looking?” Noticing Kai’s gaze, Mira mumbled softly.

Kai scratched his head and replied, “I’m looking at Rowlet.”

After breakfast, they left the house. At the gate of Kai’s home, a black sedan was parked. A man in a suit saw them coming out and greeted them respectfully.

“Miss, Young Master Kai, good morning.”

“Good morning, Mr. Dai.”

The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

“Good morning.”

After exchanging greetings, they quickly got into the back seat.

Mr. Dai was one of Mira's father’s subordinates. Since today was an important day, he had personally come to drive them to the entrance exam.

But ten minutes later—

“What’s going on up ahead?!”

“I heard a Rapidash rear-ended us. Its trainer doesn’t have a license.”

“No way, a traffic jam at this time. I’m running late for work.”

Overhearing the conversation, Mr. Dai turned to Kai and Mira. “Miss, Young Master Kai, it seems there’s been an accident ahead.”

“It’s okay, Mr. Dai. Just take an alternate route. Doesn’t Balba West Road also lead to Silverwing High School?” Mira said, checking the map on her phone.

“That road has a section where cars can’t pass, and it’s necessary to walk a kilometer,” Mr. Dai explained.

“It’s just one kilometer.” Mira put down her phone and smiled slightly. “There's still time until the entrance exam starts. We can walk a bit.”

“Understood.”

The car turned and entered a side route. Fifteen minutes later, it stopped in front of a narrow alley that led straight to Silverwing High School.

“Let’s go!”

Mira and Kai got out of the car.

“Be careful,” Mr. Dai called out, watching their backs as they left.

Both Mira and Kai were physically fit and quickly ran through the alley. While they still had some time, it was better to arrive early to familiarize themselves with the environment.

The gigantic building with a silvery tint appeared on the other side of the street. The main gate was bustling with people going in and out.

As they followed the stream of people inside, Kai and Mira realized how vast the Silverwing campus was. One could easily get lost. Thankfully, there were signs indicating the locations of entrance exams for various programs.

“The academic and Pokémon program exams are in different areas. Let’s split up here,” Kai said.

“Make sure to pass the exam, Aye,” Mira said, looking into his eyes.

“Mm.” Kai nodded and was about to leave when he noticed Mira tugging at the corner of his shirt.

“What’s wrong?”

Mira hesitated, then took a hair tie from her wrist. Blushing, she placed it in Kai’s hand. “This hair tie will bring good luck. Keep it with you.”

The hair tie, freshly removed, still carried the scent of her shampoo. Kai looked at it before a teasing smile appeared on his face. “If I pass the exam, what reward will I get?”

“I’ll make you whatever you want to eat,” Mira replied seriously, then added, “As long as I know how to make it.”

Hearing this, Kai leaned slightly and whispered in her ear, “You said, anything…?”

A flush spread across Mira’s pale cheeks. She pushed Kai away, muttering, “T-Time’s running out. Kai, you should go take the exam!”

Saying that, she turned and ran off hurriedly with surprising agility.

Watching her leave, Kai smiled. Tossing the hair tie into his pocket, he followed the signs and swiftly arrived at the location where the first part of the exam—the written test—was to be held. After verifying his trainer card, he was assigned a seat, waiting for the exam to begin.

The exam papers were soon distributed, and the bell rang, indicating the start of the exam.

**[1. Both Slowbro and Slowking evolve from the Slowpoke line and are Water/Psychic-type Pokémon. However, which of the following moves is not a commonly learnable move by both Pokémon?]**

A. Yawn

B. Amnesia

C. Power Gem

D. Hypnosis

Kai glanced at the question and chose C.

Power Gem was a Rock-type move that utilized a gem-like light to attack the opponent. It had no special effects, but Slowking had a pink gem on its crown, allowing it to learn Power Gem. The same was not true for Slowbro.

**[2. Among known Pokémon, excluding legendary and artificial Pokémon, only two are pure Flying types. What are these two Pokémon?]**

Seeing this question, Kai began to think. While many bird Pokémon were Flying types, very few were pure Flying types. Most were a combination of Flying type and another type.

“Tornadus” Kai wrote down his answer.
