Bhraantii
The Beginning

The Beginning

This is a world of destruction. Nothing is left. Everyone is either starving or dying. The only escape is Bhraantii. The Government created a world that sustains itself. The only problem is that the world has limited space and most of my planet’s survivors will soon die of diseases or starvation. The government has started to send people in, but even the programmers don’t know what will happen. It is the time of the apocalypse and as usual, humans try to escape it.

My name is Marilyn Idean. I am getting sent in this mysterious world. No one knows if I am coming out or what will happen to me. I am only one of the guinea pigs of this whole operation. Tomorrow is my Day of Judgment. Tomorrow is the day I enter the world of salvation.

I sighed as I finished typing in the journal they gave me to document my experience in the new world. I walked over to my hard cot and shut my eyes until I felt darkness take me and slept a troubled sleep. That night I dreamt that all of my family came back to life after dying of diseases, only to see them killed in worse ways and I kept hearing their screams. Then their torturer turned to me. Its face kept shifting between my family members and finally settled on my living cousin. I screamed as he raised his laser to blast off my head. The beam shot out and after that, I remember nothing. Seconds or hours later I jerked awake and saw sunlight in the dirty windows of my “house”. I realized that I fell asleep in my clothes and I started to try and find clean ones. I ended up just staying in my dirty ones because I didn’t want to rummage through my pack to find clean clothes. I got some food together and sat down at my desk to eat.

“Hey, Split Lip, It’s time for your transfer!” I looked over my shoulder and saw Sergeant Nathan Smith. The Jerk. He towers over everyone with his short brown hair, and insults anyone he sees. He likes to tease me because of my stupid cleft lip. I sigh and stared down at my uneaten food.

“Lets go Half Face!” yelled the Sargent. I got up and took one last look around the cramped shack I had been living in for the past 10 years. True it was cramped and didn’t have much room, but I got to share it with my cousin and it was home. “Hurry up!” Nathan screamed. I looked at the Sargent and got really mad.

“Why don’t you live somewhere most of your life with your only family member and then just be selected to pack up and leave! Maybe you would like some more time too!” I looked away after I got that off of my chest, and started tearing up.

“Are you done yet?” He jeered as he started walking to the transport station not really waiting for an answer. I scowled and started following him to the center of the base. No one is allowed to see the station unless that person worked there or they were one of the test subjects going through. I didn’t know what to expect but when I walked in, it was something I could have never imagined.

Inside the dome-like center of the camp, there was a huge hologram I could only assume was the world I was to be transported to. I then knew why the government only wanted certain people to see it. I saw green, blue, and white and it looked beautiful. It was very different from Earth, our planet, which is brown and black destroyed by all of the nuclear wars fought over for resources. I think that it’s ironic that while having a war for resources, humans destroyed them.

“Would you please step over here Ms.Idean?” I looked over and saw some scientist motioning to a machine. The only problem was that he had the same look of disgust on his face that everyone else had when they met me. I walked closer and he backed up a bit. “I will need you to sit here please” When I sat down he started putting a whole bunch of wires and needles inside my body.

“What are you doing? I don’t like random things getting put in my body!” I was hysterical and started thrashing.

“Restrain her.” The scientist commanded something. Then the chair shot out straps and held me down. “Please try to be calm now Ms. Idean. These wires are only here to help you get transferred into the world so that you don’t introduce a virus into it. I stopped thrashing as much and started to get very tired. I heard the man say, “Sir, she is drifting out into the world as planned. Do I commence with the orders?”

“Yes.” Said a deep, gravelly voice. I was wondering what he meant by “The Orders” as I faded away into nothingness.

I woke up in a bed. My vision flashed and was filled with white as my eyes adjusted to the light. I looked around and saw that I was in a cloth structure. It was small and a little uncomfortable. I realized that I was on a hard cot and in itchy clothes. I looked around for some new ones and found a mirror, some foreign objects, and a trunk. I immediately set down the objects and the mirror. I looked at the trunk and found a keyhole. It looked old fashioned, big and gold but they never gave me a key. I accidentally brushed the lock while getting up and I heard a female robotic voice, “Please put your eye up to the lock.” I didn’t think it would do much harm so I did what it asked. Some red light shot out and scanned my eye. I backed up confused because I thought the government banned that technology years ago. “Welcome Marilyn Idean. This is Bhraantii. This world is largely wild and there are new creatures that have been discovered. There will be more creatures you have never seen, some friendly, some dangerous. We are trying to keep technology out of this world for now and let it progress on its own. The weapons that you received are very primitive and you will have to learn how to use them if you want to survive. Because we don’t want technology here this chest will self-destruct in one minute. We advise to take all your materials and run. Thank for helping the human race. Good Bye.”

All I could think of then was how there was about to be an explosion and I wanted to get as far away as possible. I grabbed all of the stuff I found in the tent, and while awkwardly carrying it all, I ran outside. The sunlight blinded me so I stumbled a bit. The next thing I knew I was thrown because of the force of the explosion. I had dirt in my teeth and my eyes were tearing up because of the pain. When they forced me to do this they never said it would hurt. I wiped my face with my hand, which only made it worse. I imagined that I looked like a hag or one of the homeless on Earth. Then I realized that I was homeless. I was alone, stranded in a strange place, not sure if I would see tomorrow. “No. I am going to survive and I am going to find more people. I am going to help my race survive.” I started looking over the materials I had. They gave me something that resembled one of those Laser-Sabers® the police carried around to break up the riots and kill the rioters. In a pouch that I had grabbed, I found many smaller versions of the Saber. I picked up a rectangular object and started to examine it. It seemed to be a basic version of our books. It was made out of a thin bendable material that I realized came from trees and on Earth, it could be sold on the black market for trillions of credits. I opened it and found that the first half of the object was blank and the second half had information about the basics that I would need to know to survive, including my tools. I found that I had a “sword” and the smaller versions were called “knives”. I shut the object, which had identified itself as a “book” and looked around my surroundings. I saw green, blue, a magical picture compared to Earth. I saw beauty, and smelt fresh air, and I felt wonderful. I grabbed my few possessions and started to walk towards a large group of trees that stretched for what seemed like forever. And thus began my journey in Bhraantii.
