“Hmmmm, and so the kingdom lived happily ever after, once more?” The girl thought to herself as she closed yet another book and placed it on the gigantic stack next to her.
“The ending was a bit cliché for me, but otherwise it was pretty enjoyable.” The girl thought to herself as she softly fell on the mountain of pillows behind her.
“It would have been significantly more enjoyable if the author actually created an epilogue instead of ending the story so abruptly. It’s pretty irritating, whenever they decide not to expand on something that important. Is it really that difficult to provide that to the viewer?” She began to complain to herself further, as though she was speaking to the author directly. At some point, she caught on to her own internal ramblings and instead looked outside the window to take in the tiny flickers of light across the view in front of her. It was nighttime, so the pure white glow provided by the Aery lanterns and the bright light provided by the many houses, their colour of orange and yellow blending together, across the vast distance made it look like below was the starry night sky. It was mixing with the actual star filled sky, making the impression that one was surrounded by it. To the girl it felt especially so, when she resided in this house that stood alone, even the nearest houses being long distances away. It felt like she was the only living being in this world.
Well, if not for the person that is currently barging in, pulling her out of her imagination.
A boy the same age as her, yet with the eyes of a seasoned adult, opens the door to her room and kneels in front of her respectfully.
"Your Highness, I will have to leave during the morning to submit the documents concerning the upcoming ceremony. Additionally, I will go retrieve our ordered goods, as well, as preparing for the belongings you requested to take with you. I trust, there are no further changes you wish to make to the current plan you set up.
"Yes, Louis. I finished it all, and besides," The girl says dismissively. “, You wouldn’t let me rest until I took care of all that, you know.” She complained, her grievances falling on deaf ears to her irritation.
You could be reading stolen content. Head to Royal Road for the genuine story.
“Yes, I did.” He says in both a respectful and amused tone of voice. “I wouldn’t have to push you like that, if you actually handled those affairs accordingly.” And so, his complaints, too, fell on deaf ears.
“So, you will be gone for the better half of a day, huh.” She considered. “Well, don’t be worried. Mael and Zyana will visit me like always, so I’ll be fine.”
“I am well aware. The times they are here are the only times I can leave you alone with a clean conscience.” She didn’t know if those words were meant as an appreciation for them or a jab at her.
“Oh, I almost forgot.” Her retainer suddenly remembered. “I’m well aware of what you’ll say, but I’ll ask anyway. I was, once again, approached by several nobles, specifically the ones belonging to Sol group. As always, they requested an audience with you. The number of arriving letters also don’t decrease. What do you intend to do with them?”
“You already know my answer. You can ignore them all. And throw the letters in the pile, like always.” She promptly tells him, looking towards the corner to her left with a container full of unopened letters.
“You can make a gigantic campfire with the amount we collected…” The boy thought to himself.
“As you wish.” He spoke.
“Don’t these people have something better to do? When will they take the hint?” She sighed to herself. Rather than annoyed, the tone of her voice suggested, that she was seeing this as a routine she grew bored with.
“I highly doubt, that this will cease, even after you leave the island, once the approaching coming of age ceremony commences. If anything, it will increase, with the number of nobles and politicians across all continents. Not to mention, once you gain access to the Internet, contact with you will be easier than ever. If you actually announced those grievances and declared your unwillingness to cooperate, most of these people would finally give up.” He spoke in a blunt manner. His remark however didn’t seem like an accusation, just a rational observation. “If I may be so bold to say, it seems as though you enjoy toying with these people.”
She didn’t deny that. “I do admit that I may find amusement in all that.” She said with a faint smile. “But hey, can you blame me? These are the few things I can entertain myself with here, you know?”
“I am well aware.” His voice sounding overly formal. “I shall take my leave for now. I wish you a good night, Your Highness”.
“Thank you, Louis. You, too.” She said wistfully.
As her retainer closed the door behind him, he heaved a sigh.
“ I wish you allowed yourself to pursue more entertainment and joy in life, Izel. You have the right to that, you know...” He thought to himself, until he carried on.
