A Quicksand of Queens

----------------------------------------

History

Amanila’s most prominent version of chess, which was a restructured version of the more complicated “Game of Generals.”

It rose to popularity after the death of King Viktor and the country’s political change from an Empire to a Republic.

Amanila’s chess reflects the roles and function of the old kingdom’s army and its hierarchy. In this version, the Tower is a Ballista that never needs to get close to its enemy, but needs a knockback. The Knight is a Cavalier that charges straight, knocking both allies and enemies in its path. The Bishop is an Inquisitor that uses magic, needing to sacrifice its allies in order to attack, or messing with enemy positions. The King is encouraged to charge forward with its army, having the ability to call its cavaliers in any time of need. The Queen can produce new pawns, and can take command when his King dies. Lastly, the game ends once the Queen is captured and the kingdom is forced to surrender.

The game’s premise is based on War of the Five Kings, specifically the battle between King Edward the 4th, who hung himself when his wife died, versus his sister, Queen Daedara, who took command after the death of King Ennis (and the speculation that she used the Inquisitor to kill his own king), who was eventually felled by Viktor the Valhamoth.

The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
