On a seemingly ordinary day in future Earth, marked today as the beginning of end, an imposing voice sounded out in our heads.
“Greetings, humans! My name is Walter and I am a Deity, for which Progress is mine to govern. For years you have slacked, stagnated. And THAT greatly displeases me. For the entertainment and pleasure you have previously given me, during the Industrial Revolution ,the technology boom in the 21st century and other such events, one Final Chance, one Ultimatum is due. In only 3 years Apocalypse, Armageddon or what have you will grace your world with their presence.
I will give you the tools necessary to your survival, and make it so you can progress . However, it will NOT be easy.
Monsters your very Nightmares tremble in fear from will roam the lands, along with Mythological creatures you yourselves created and animals that you have bullied and dominated for millenia which will have evolved far beyond the scope of your imagination.
I shall grant you an opportunity to evolve beyond humanity and transcend its limits but only if you pass the tests this world will provide you.
There will be a tutorial in the first few weeks of Apocalypse, however, it will be nowhere near enough time for you to adapt.

I suggest you prepare, for the comfort days are over. Bitter struggles await you.
For the skeptical ones, pay attention, for this will be the last warning.”
Suddenly, the entire ocean was on fire. The sky had no breathable air, and gravity pushed everyone, no exceptions, to their knees. Breaths stuck in the throat, everyone trembled. If such a being wanted to kill us... oh we could only tremble.
No one died, even the ones in contact with the flames, for these weren’t meant to hurt, but to instill fear.
This was real, not just a figment of our imagination. Everything pointed to that.
“Best of luck to you all.“ Was the last we heard of him.
This is my life’s purpose, was my exact thought. The excitement only found in books, movies, tv shows, animes and games.
After breathing deep to calm myself down, a thought popped into my head.
He wasn’t wrong. Humanity could be said to have reached its peak. Through clever use of technology, the world is now perfect (if there is such a thing). We have solved every issue plaguing us since ever.
Medicine has reached perfection, police are unemployed (as in, no crimes) and politicians are clean and corruption free. Nature can thrive again in a peaceful coexistence with Humanity for no more polution exists, and no animals harmed or hunted.
However, this is a double-edged sword.
Society is perfect; hence, we’ve stagnated. If you’ve no problems to solve, then you’ve no reason to improve. You don’t require a solution for a problem that’s not there.
Why should we strive to improve ourselves, just to die mirthlessly, without making a ripple in this puddle of stagnated water.
With a breath of fresh air, a solution to this problem in sight, only the future knows what awaits us… what awaits me.
But my heart can’t help but yearn for that future.
