Ch 4: Fingers

Ch 4: Fingers

They cant reach high enough to pull themselves up the transformer, but they start a dogpile at the bottom and climb each other. When the first one reaches me and tries to pull himself up I slice off his fingers and that sends him falling back to the ground. The next few moments were a flurry of kicking and slashing at fingers as they try to pull themselves up the tall transformer, but I realize each hand reaches higher. The pile of bodies around the transformer is growing, every one that falls just lays on the pile and allows itself to be used as a step for the next.

Looks like this is it, at least ill get to see some old friends soon. The first flashlight mouth pulls himself over the edge and gets kicked in the face to little effect, he grabs onto one if the wires coming out of the top and takes a shock, his mouth immediately explodes. Splattering me in bits of jawbone and teeth. Thankful that my shotgun has a wood stock I use it to shove him off the top of the transformer, but his hand keeps its grip as current grounds through his body and into the bodies trying to climb up him.

I hear several more explosions coming from the press of bodies around me, I feel hopeful bout this development, but there's a click from the transformer I'm standing on and it stops humming. There aren't any more explosions from the flashlight crew, but at this point there are dozens of smoking jawless bodies piled around me, making a nice ramp for the final wave to walk up.

I survey my surroundings, trying to gauge when I should take my exit round as I pick my shotgun up and check the last shell.

I notice that each flashlight mouth was now carrying at least one disk in their hands, I'm guessing those are for me. I look at the pod, and think about what it represents, hatred for what it means fills my heart. Somebody sent this here, to kill us and then use our dead like muppets, to keep attacking and spread, using our own resources against us. But this isn’t an attack ship, there aren’t any obvious weapons, its only a room full of disks and a factory. This pod… ship, whatever, is the industrial base. Thoughts flash through my mind, but I only hope I've done enough to hamper their long term efforts.

My eyes drift the part of the ship where a power line is connected, a segmented cable is clamped onto the body of the ship, the other end splits and runs to the high voltage lines powering the substation. A thought occurs to me, if I'm going out I might as well take them with me.

I take aim at the connection to the ship, steady myself, exhale, then squeeze the trigger. My shot lands true directly on the clamp and cable, for a moment nothing happens then the clamp dangles open and the wire falls to the ground and neon light blinds me.
