Chapter 0- Introduction

Of the many continents on the planet of Aeth, the human continent is the most united.

The Caelic Empire is a republic that slowly dominated the human continent over two millennia since the dawn of its inception. As of now, the entire human continent is united under one banner.

The human continent used to be home to many numerous subspecies of men. But under Caelic imperialism, that number has been reduced to one.

Any subspecies other than Humans have either been pushed out or killed off. Though sometimes Caelic scouts or explorers do happen upon a tribe of reclusive non-humans.

In the Caelic empire, there is no room for non-humans. They pose too much of a threat to humans as most of them are competent in magic.

On The planet of Aeth, magic is an essential skill. But it’s a skill humans struggle with.

You could be reading stolen content. Head to Royal Road for the genuine story.

Magic is a hereditary skill That opens many possibilities. And can be applied to any occupation in one way or another.

Unfortunately, the magnitude and complexity of the magic that someone can cast is completely predetermined by genetics.

This fact alone was enough to stimulate the hierarchical structure that divides the empire’s subjects into separate castes. And it was all done under the guise of a meritocracy.

But truthfully the talented subjects of the lower class are disregarded. And for the few that try to rise through their social classes, they will all quickly find roadblocks set by nobles.

The Caelic empire had devised a ranking system to distinguish between the different qualities of magic skills. The higher the tier the better the quality of the spell and the more applicable the spell is to higher occupations in society.

Unfortunately, the tiers are founded on hereditary magical capabilities. Meaning peasants often struggle with higher tier magic.

The grade of magic someone can cast largely limits the opportunities they’ll have in life. Both with occupation and their rights as a citizen of Caelia.

The tiers are not absolute and are quite arbitrary. Though people’s roles in society are defined by them, they aren’t a perfect system.

For example, someone may be classed as having common grade magic but can cast a few spells in the grade above it.

Though this is the case people will only be classed into the tier of which they can cast all spells of a said tier.
