9. Return To Hare Hill

9. Return To Hare Hill

Ben returns along with the recently rescued Valentina and the goat nicknamed “Ben” as well. The black castle had been left in ruins after the battle against the disciples of Kramer, and the latter had managed to escape thanks to the last forces of Kat, who also died in a tough confrontation against Ben. Jem and Rafaela managed to pass to the elven lands of light, through the portal built by Kramer, a portal that is now destroyed. Kramer's whereabouts are uncertain.

Lebrassia, the nation of men, the nation without God, the communist nation, had now lost one of the four cardinal warriors, Rubicom, the scarlet warrior, who died in battle at the hands of Glowen, later killed in the massacre of the black castle.

The Lebrassian nation is constituted politically, by a central order, called “The Trinity”, followed by the four pillars (the cardinal warriors), who would take control of their region in case of losing contact with The Trinity. Rubicom represented the west of Lebrassia, related to the western capital, Fressen. The Trinity was located in the geographic center of Lebrassia, a restricted place known as “The Gardens of Man”, the political capital of Lebrassia, where only political guests, heroes, military leaders and ambassadors could enter.

Lebrassia was surrounded by gigantic cannons that pointed towards its borders. These were so huge that they looked like mountains. Flying metal ships guarded the skies, with heavy artillery, fueled by the red magic provided by the tears of blood they had installed.

The news of the destruction of Kramer's cult in the black castle spread throughout Vemen, people were restlessly asking questions in the tree-lined streets, even in the brewery where Ben met Kramer, he had his customers outside still watching the dark sky split in two, seeing the strange lightning that still flashed, like what was left after a strong storm.

Word spread fast, the battle of the black castle was already being followed in nearby places, but it was not yet known exactly how it had all ended. There was much expectation, much speculation as to whether Ben could get the girl from the hare hill, Valentina, out of the cult.

Ben speeds up the ascending road on his way home with Valentina and the goat Ben, on the huge motorcycle tank taken as booty, from the king of nothing. The goat jumps right in the middle of the small park at the top of Hare Hill, while Valentina, very shocked, and clearly affected by everything, heads for home.

There is no answer when they arrive, and Ben suspects the worst. They finally enter and Vanessa finds herself drowsy, and barely able to utter words. “-They took my babies,” she says. Ben tries to figure out what's going on, but it's very confusing. He immediately goes and goes to Mrs. Irma's house, and upon seeing her well they both give each other a big hug. Vanessa had given birth to a set of twins while Ben was trying to rescue Valentina. Calm was still far from being achieved. He tells Mrs. Irma what happened, and they immediately go together to help Vanessa.

Ben tries to calm down, to find a solution to this new reality, and to try to understand what is happening at this moment. He sits on the same bench he once sat on with his cousin Jem and Kramer, this time alone in the middle.

From the distance and the height of Hare Hill, Ben could clearly see the broken sky in the direction of the black castle. He reviewed everything that had happened, trying to decipher who could have taken the twins. Then, from Vanessa's house, Valentina called him. Thanks to Mrs. Irma, Vanessa was able to regain her senses.

Vanessa explains to Ben, that it was Kramer's companion, Kat, who stole her newborn twins. “-It was Kramer.” Kramer had a secondary plan, which Ben would now have to figure out. “-But his portal is already destroyed, his plan is no longer useful!”. Irma, thoughtfully, says “-maybe it's not the only portal.”

Oldania, the nation-kingdom north of Lebrassia, is known for still believing in the sun god, and for having “magical treasures”, as opposed to Lebrassia's military technology. They say that, in the Queen's Castle, there are magical treasures that make the very trinity of Lebrassia tremble, magical treasures such as the frozen body of Gobegor's princess, Cristalia, or, a thousand year old portal to the elven lands to the east.

Upon hearing this, Ben knew it was true, and that his enemy would try at all costs to reach that other portal, to meet Rafaela and Jem, who would be pregnant with Kramer, to start the Numan army.

Meanwhile, La Trinidad, in the men's garden, in the center-north of Lebrassia, was shaking with the death of most of Kramer's followers. Three subjects totally covered with a dark bluish green silk cloth, with red borders, and the communist shield on the part where their faces are covered. They all look exactly the same, and their voices are very similar, voices of old men.

The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

“-Every effort must be made to get the numan into Oldania without arousing suspicion or creating a diplomatic conflict.” Another adds, “This was the worst-case scenario, we gave him all the resources necessary and available to execute the plan,

but the counterpart is very powerful, every action has a reaction”. Finally, the third takes the floor and says: “We live for this moment, change is inevitable”.

The gardens of man, glades and golden forests of dreams, where, paradoxically, not every man could enter. And there, in one of those clearings, a beautiful building in marble and stone, the color of dawn, was visible from afar. It was square in shape, with a three-story pavilion on each side, and a tower at each corner.

In the center, a large garden-plaza that interconnected the internal doors of the pavilions. Muscular bronze statues of men and women, suggesting man as a god of his own, unlike the Oldanian believers.

The trinity, those three mysterious subjects, were the political leaders of Lebrassia, and also commanded the Lebrassian army. The general public did not know about them, and it was thought that they were a kind of military council that rotated periodically. The truth is that the Trinity had been in command of Lebrassia for a long time, much longer than one might imagine.

In the era of the kingdoms, Princess Cristalia had destroyed with her fury and ice the western kingdoms of the sun, today Lebrassia and Oldania, having achieved the balance between human magic (blood) and black magic (ice), in revenge for the death of her beloved first cousin. The realms of the sun grew dark, and the grasslands turned to mud and ice. Food became scarce. The commoners began to rebel against the kings of the sun, who had managed to wipe out Cristalia through the incursion of the so-called “black bears”, but these kings could not control the famine or the social collapse that was coming.

Several years passed in this darkness, and the kingdoms used their cavalry and weaponry against their own people.

The commoners held out with the help of steam engines, improvised war tanks in the mud, which they built with the help of military men who changed sides. But the kingdoms of the sun had bigger machines and tanks of war, and they killed thousands of indignant citizens.

One such dark night, three friends, peasants, the kind who never mess with anyone, saw a red star fall from the sky onto a desolate wheat field. The crater it left behind was as red as blood, luminous and incandescent. As they watched this red luminosity, the foreman, furious that they had stopped working, verbally assaulted them. Inspired by that red light, by way of revolution and forceful change, they refused to continue working. The foreman grabbed one of them and threw him to the ground, the other two each threw a hammer and sickle to the ground and went, unarmed, to defend their friend. The one who was lying on the ground defends himself and manages to kill the foreman with his own weapon. The three friends get up, and under the red glare of the fallen star, they see what would become the symbol of their revolution: “A crossed hammer and sickle”.

Then they encouraged their neighbors to rise up as well, inspired by the mysterious red glow, and while keeping the goodness in their faces, those young, hard-working adults became the inspiration of the struggle, with their war speeches that seemed to come from another world.

The rebel forces came to overthrow all the crowns of the kingdoms of the sun, proclaiming the supremacy of man, and evoking the death of the gods who had abandoned mankind. Red flags and banners, with the hammer and sickle, marched everywhere, wiping out every last trace of royalty, queens, princes, princesses, princesses or anything linked to a king.

Only one kingdom remained, in the north, Oldania. The communist forces led by the three commanders, formerly peasants, arrive at the Oldan castle, and assassinate their king, after defeating the royal guard.

And there was the queen of Oldania, in her huge and luxurious bed, the last trace of royalty in the world. But this was no ordinary queen, she was a wizard queen, and a very powerful wizard, she was the queen and personal wizard of the now dead king of Oldania.

One of the three friends raises his sword against the queen and she begs him to listen to her before she dies. She asks him to close the door to the royal chamber, and to at least consider her offer. And then she tells the three of them “-I have the power to make them never die of old age, so they can rule forever”.

The three, surprised by the offer, and seeing that they might never be able to have an equal opportunity again, accept, since they have nothing to lose, as they practically have the rest of the kingdoms under their control. However, Oldania was one of the largest kingdoms, and encompassed practically the entire northern peninsula of the eastern kingdoms. The queen, with her blue eyes and her long, thick, wavy, coppery golden hair, in her great wisdom as a queen, made a condition: “Oldania will remain a kingdom, as it has always been, and my offspring will reign, and only my daughters, the future queens, will reign, for you men will reign forever. If you ever attack Oldania, the spell on you will disappear, and if you are over 100 years old, you will die immediately. The most destroyed lands, in the west, where there is still ice like columns of temples of suffering and desolation, will not be yours, nor Oldania's, it will be for the people who hope to one day change everything that today here in this room is being remembered. Those no man's lands will have no king, and if someone proclaims himself king, he will not be able to have an army and will only serve those who choose to live in that darkness.”

The queen takes a parchment, and has them all three sign it, and then signs it herself. She then keeps the document, in a crystal urn with a magic seal. To enchant the three of them, she was to make love to each of them, allowing them to never die of old age, unless someone murders them. He tells them to go out two and keep one, and so they would take turns.

However, the three refuse, and the queen of Oldania is raped by the three subjects at the same time, obtaining from her, eternal vitality. After that, the new revolutionary nation, at the hands of the three peasants up in arms, now called “The Trinity”, would impose itself in the known lands of the east, this new nation called “Lebrassia”, which means the “armed arm of men”.

Almost a thousand years passed, and their minds, became almost one. Their faces were covered forever, as they showed the horrible passage of time. Of that goodness of three noble peasants nothing remained, only an entity full of hatred and pride.
