CHAPTER 316
When the car drove into Sun Garden, Madeline's phone started ringing just when she got out of the car with her two children.
With her children in one of her arms, she used her other hand to take out her phone.
The caller ID on the screen showed the word 'Mom'.
After she picked up the phone, she put it by her ear and said, "Mom."
Crystal sounded anxious. "Maddie, I heard from Sam that Isabel was arrested for hiring people to kill you, Quincy, and Joel. Is it true?"
"It is," Madeline answered.
Hearing that, Crystal's voice was even more anxious. "Are you and the kids okay?"
"We're fine," said Madeline. "But Luke was hurt. And a bodyguard named Leonard was seriously injured too. I don't know whether he will survive this…"
On the other side of the phone, Crystal was so terrified that her hands and feet were turning cold. "Is it that serious? That psycho, Isabel. What does she want to do? Is she crazy?" There's actually a bodyguard that is on the verge of dying? She really wanted them dead!
It was fortunate that her daughter and grandsons were lucky enough to escape the accident without a scratch. Otherwise, they would be the ones seriously injured and on the verge of dying!
At this thought, Crystal was so angry that she started trembling. "The members of the Xavier Family are evil one after another. Sam is really a fool too. Your Uncle Nigel had asked him to send Isabel overseas, so that they don't have to see her anymore, but Sam just keeps refusing. He just won't do it and keeps saying that Isabel is innocent. Lucky that you and the children are safe, or else…"
She was suddenly overwhelmed by the thought which made her heart palpitate and she almost collapsed.
Seeing that, Michael quickly took out a bottle of medicine and gave her a few pills. He then passed a cup of water to her and stroked her back to calm her down. "Don't be so agitated, Crystal. Take care of your body!"
After Crystal swallowed the pills, she tried to calm down her nerves as she took a few deep breaths. Her palpitating heart then returned to normal after a while.
Then, she said to the phone, "Where are you now, Maddie? I'll visit you now."
"Mom, are you not feeling well?" Madeline said. "My kids and I are fine. We're just a little tired. You should rest at home with Dad. I'll bring Quincy and Joel to visit you when I have time."
Crystal knew that if she insisted on going, Madeline would need to take care of her, which would definitely increase the burden on Madeline.
At this thought, she suppressed her wish to see Madeline and the children immediately. Then, she reminded Madeline, "Give your dad and I a call immediately if anything happens. We'll rush there in an instant."
"Okay. I got it, Mom." Madeline hung up the phone after she asked Crystal to take care of her body as well.
As soon as she hung up, her phone started ringing again. This time, the call was from Sam. Copyright Nôv/el/Dra/ma.Org.
When she picked up, Sam asked, "Maddie, are you and the kids okay?"
She repeated the same thing that she had said to Crystal just now to him.
"Maddie… I know that you might not be in the mood to listen to what I'm about to say, but this is really urgent, so I have to tell you no matter what…" he said. "Isabel called me earlier and told me that you accused her of hiring people to kill you. The police have already arrested her. She—"
"No one accused her." Madeline cut him off. "The police arrested her because they had solid evidence. Rather than asking me whether the incident really happened, why not try asking the police instead? I'm in opposition to Isabel. You might not believe what I say."
Hearing that, Sam quickly said, "That's not true, Maddie. I—"
"Sam, I'm really tired." She cut him off again. "You can save your breath if you're trying to plead for Isabel. I'll never forgive her this time no matter what! There's a bodyguard named Leonard still lying in the ICU, and he is in that state because he risked his life just to protect me and my children! I'll never forgive her! Never!"
Not waiting for Sam to say anything more, she ended the call abruptly.
At this moment, she was even hating Sam.
Isabel hired a person to kill her and her children, and that would need money. Until now, Isabel had never used her own ability to earn any money. So, where did her money come from?
After Phoebe and Bryan's conspiracy was exposed, her uncle Nigel and Dan hated Phoebe to their core. At the same time, they took their anger out on Isabel, kicking her out of the Taylor Residence and cutting all ties with her.
After that, Sam was the one providing support for her. So, all the money in her hand was from Sam!
Although Madeline knew that Sam was innocent and taking out her anger on him was not right, she just hated Isabel so much! That hatred made her unable to stay rational and treat Sam as an innocent man.
That was why she did not dare to continue talking to him on the phone. She worried that she would not be able to control herself from saying some things that she should not.
At this thought, she suppressed her wish to see Madeline and the children immediately. Then, she reminded Madeline, "Give your dad and I a call immediately if anything happens. We'll rush there in an instant."
On the other hand, after Madeline hung up the phone, Sam held his phone with shock all over his face. Madeline really hung up on me?!
Since the Taylor Family took her in, she would always obey whatever the Taylors said. It was especially so for Sam's words; she had never refuted him.
But today, she hung up on him before he could finish his sentence!
At this moment, he did not know what he was feeling. Was it anger? Or was it disappointment?
Only at this moment did he finally realize that the Madeline now was not the same Madeline that was living in the Taylor Residence during those days.
She was now his aunt Crystal's daughter and Mrs. Hart. She had enough clout to hang up on him.
As for Sam, he should not claim himself as her lifesaver anymore and still treat her as last time, thinking that she would obey whatever he said. That would no longer be the case anymore.
So, he could only hope that the police got it wrong—Isabel did not hire people to kill Madeline, Quincy, and Joel. Or else, he would not be able to save her even if he did all he could.
At this thought, he sighed and stood up before walking out. He suddenly realized that it was a mistake for him to choose to stay in Dusktown at that time.
This year, his family and his uncle George's family had a collaboration project and they needed a person to stay in Dusktown.
He should have let Dan stay, but he was too indecisive and could not be ruthless enough to leave Isabel alone.
Since Dan had his leg broken and could not recover completely because of Phoebe and Bryan, he hated them to his bone, and he took his anger out on Isabel as well. If he was the person that stayed in Dusktown, he would not be as bothered and face a dilemma like Sam at this moment.
Now, the only thing Sam could hope for was that Madeline got it wrong—Isabel was not the culprit. Or else, it would be the end of Isabel. Even though he wanted to keep her safe, he would not be able to do that anymore.
After passing through many hands and using a lot of time and effort, he finally met Isabel in the detention center. She was in prison clothes with handcuffs on.
When Isabel saw him, it was as though she had seen her savior. She shouted at him while crying, "Sam, save me! They falsely accused me! They just arrested me when I didn't even do anything! Please save me, Sam!"
