Chapter 2: Chores Galore

Chapter 2: Chores Galore

Hussain hastily took off the helmet and sprang out of the capsule. He looked at the capsule, his heart beating rapidly. The only thought going through his mind was how he almost got raped by three chinese men. Hussain needed some water. He looked up at the clock, time had flown by. He needed to make dinner for both his mother and himself. After dinner, he took a quick nap. The initial shock of the attack on his manhood over, Hussain decided to log back in again and see if there was a different way, place or person who might help him get started. So far, he had spent 6 hrs in the game and had nothing to show for it.

Hussain decided to check the internet for more information. However, the only information he found for Kingdom of Pusean was the fact that they trained lots of strong martial artists. Hussain thought about this for a while. Maybe he could train and then become a wandering pugilist. He could help people for money, then sell this money offline and make real money from it. He had forgotten to ask the brother who gave him the capsule for more information on how he made his money. But this was his task, and his alone. He shook his head and thought about martial arts, that to him, had too many facets. It seemed too complicated, and he didn’t like things too complicated.

Looking over the auction sites, Hussain saw the prices at which many of the items were being sold at. Swords and armor were priced at over £5000, and the bidding on those weapons were only going up by the minute. Whenever he refreshed the page, the figures would almost double. Shaking his head in disbelief, Hussain thought that maybe getting raped in a game by three chinese men wasn’t so bad a thing, but then he dismissed the thought instantly. The loss to his pride would be too great. He thought that maybe if he talked to them...But then he remembered they never even replied back, only grinned at how he struggled - then he thought maybe he might like getting raped by three chinese men.

”Astaghfirullah,(God forgive me)” Hussain blurted out.

Hussain waited another two hours. It was 02:00 real time, and he decided to wait before logging in again. He went to sleep and arose at 08:00, fixed breakfast for his mother, made sure she took her medication. Then, he had a shower. He took out the day’s lunch from the freezer. He had cooked the food, dished them up and put them in the freezer for easy cooking and preparation, for if he was out - his mother needed to eat. He then went to the back room and started up the capsule. Laying down inside, he said a silent prayer in the hopes of being protected.

“A'udhu Billahi Min ash-Shaytan Ir-Rajeem.”*(I seek God’s protection from Satan the accursed one)

The light came and faded away, and he was once more at the top of the steps.Blitz looked around quickly, and spotting no one, he laughed and thought to make a hasty retreat, only to feel something land on his bald head. Reaching up, he removed something and began to examine it, finding it to be a leaf, he smiled. Then, the smile turned to a frown.

“Green?” He wondered aloud.

Why was this leaf green? Surely healthy trees didn’t drop green leaves. His heart skipped a beat. Looking around quickly, he saw nothing. Looking up at the tree, he saw the three monks up there, grinning down at him. Before he could react, they were upon him. He was held tightly, unable to move again as the monk from before advanced much faster this time, and moving swiftly but deftly, began to feel Blitz up, then moved to Blitz’s back. Blitz decided to reason with his attackers

Then, he was instantly released. The monks looked at him, bowed, and in unison, said.

“You, come.”

Blitz looked around to make sure no one saw what had transpired and straightened his clothes. Looking up, the three monks were already at the gate, their backs to him. They were standing still, obviously waiting for him to follow. Walking over swiftly, he decided to follow them inside.

Stepping through the gates, Blitz could hear noises. He saw people training, some sitting in lotus positions meditating, some with sabres flipping and doing acrobatics, and there were even some mimicking various animals. There was even a fat guy using his stomach as a weapon, bouncing on the ground with it and spinning on his belly. Blitz was shocked at the level of agility the fat tub of lard had. He continued to follow the three monks as they came to a pavillion, where two old men were sitting, playing chinese chess - Go.

The three monks patiently waited and watched as the men played their game, Blitz looked on at them, he was looking at the board game and the two old farts playing the game. He was getting impatient. He thought to himself, first it was a bunch of walking, then three men rubbing up and down his chest like fags, and now, two old men wasting even more time. He cursed the day he decided to select random in the starter location, but then he said to himself not to stress. Then, one of the old men moved. Blitz immediately looked up, only to see the old man pull out a fan. The old man began fanning himself, then laughed and made a move on the board.

The other man smiled, then bowed his head and said,“Once again, Abbot Fung, your wisdom and skill are legendary. Who was I to think I could challenge you?”

The Abbot, the one with the fan, replied, “Hmm Hmm. Not so, Master Ping. I have more experience than you at this game, but the more I play you, the harder it is for me to win. Your growth and skill are peerless. I fear soon, you will surpass me.”

Master Ping smiled and said, “Abbot Fung, you honor me.”

The three monks then bowed and introduced Blitz to the Abbot, who said,”So, Major Heron has sent me a recruit, eh? What’s your name boy?”

Blitz thought to himself, ‘Boy?’

He decided not to make anything of it, and replied,“My name is Blitz, Abbot. Thank you granting me an audience. I hope I will be of use to the Pusean temple.”

“Yes, yes, we shall see. We shall see indeed,” The Abbot replied.

The Abbot turned to the monk who had felt Blitz up and said, “Monk Fahg, take this potential initiate to the barracks.”

Monk Fahg? Blitz laughed to himself, no wonder he liked to feel up men. With a name like that, it was a certainty. Monk Fahg walked ahead, as the other two went in the opposite direction. Walking behind the monk, it seemed to Blitz as though the monk never moved his feet, yet he was moving. Blitz thought it might have been a graphical error, but then, he thought this might be a true martial arts master.

The monk came to a stop at another building, turning he said,“You, wait.”

‘Sounds easy enough,’ Blitz thought, as the monk went inside and came back out, with some clothing and a pair of shoes. He handed them to Blitz

Blitz called up his inventory and equipped the clothing. The clothing seemed to be made from a strange material, which he then decided to examine closer. He called up the robe’s stats. But then, there was a sound.

The Garbs are known to weigh 25kg

Blitz nodded to himself. He could feel the weight of the clothes when he tried to move around. It wasn’t too much, but it was still noticeable. Not waiting for Blitz to get comfortable, Monk Fahg then headed off in the direction of what looked like a smoke house. Blitz hurried to keep up, and soon arrived at what was actually the kitchen. He saw a fat monk, who turned out to be the same acrobatic monk from earlier, lifting a huge metal pot directly from out of the fire with just one hand. He then rested it atop a counter without so much as a thought.

Monk Fahg bowed to the fat monk and said, “Honored Senior Tobo, I have brought a potential initiate as ordered by Abbot Fung. He is to assist you until you see fit.”

Senior Tobo, continued to focus on the food, he proceeded to open the oven. Flames came rushing out, but Senior Tobo calmly put his hands in. The flames seemed to part to either side as he reached in, and took out a ceramic tray filled with bread. He rested it atop of the counter alongside the rice. Blitz was amazed at the man's skill, despite the obvious size difference between himself and the man, the man was clearly a true master.

Senior Tobo then turned to Monk Fahg and nodded. Then, looking at Blitz, he ran his eyes over Blitz’s body and scoffed. Blitz chuckled to himself, as he thought that the man was jealous of his physique.

“Go bring me some logs for this fire from over there,” Senior Tobo said, pointing to the pile of firewood located outside of the kitchen.

Monk Fahg made his exit, as Blitz headed over to the firewood. Blitz tried to lift one up and found it difficult. He had to stoop down, use both hands, and lift with his legs to move a single firewood, struggling to carry one. Carrying it to the inside the kitchen, it felt like he was stepping into a furnace. The heat just washed over him, causing him to stagger. The firewood slipped out of his hand and landed on his foot.

“Ahhh, bugger!”

--

You have taken 20 points of damage

--

Blitz looked up to see Senior Tobo completely focused on steaming dumplings from a steam vent located above the oven. He was using his hands to redirect the heat and steam the food, uncaring to Blitz’s predicament. Regaining his composure, he stooped down, picked up the firewood, and put it in the corner. Then, he went back outside for another.

After two hours, Blitz was sweating, and he could feel his legs getting wobbly from constantly moving in and out of kitchen. The heat and cold were starting to affect his senses, and he felt like he wanted to hurl, but he fought through and pushed on. The more wood he took in, the more wood was needed.

Getting tired now, Blitz decided he would take a breather to regroup, when Senior Tobo called out,“Where’s the wood? The fire is going out. Need more wood.”

Not wasting any time, Blitz went back to fetching the firewood. He decided that he would at least not let the fire go out. His stomach was growling and he was feeling a bit hungry. He reasoned that if he worked hard here, he would at least get food when it was time to eat. Therefore, he decided to keep moving, if he stopped. he knew he wouldn’t be able to keep going. Then a message popped up.

New stat: Sustenance

Sustenance:

Smiling to himself, and with spirits renewed, Blitz picked up the pace, moving quickly so as not to have Senior Tobo calling out for more wood. Then, another message popped up;

Strength rises by 1 point. (+1 STR)

Agility rises by 1 point. (+1 AGI)

Things were flowing nicely, everything seemed to be coming together, Blitz loved those simple one point additions to his characteristics. It showed progress, and perhaps soon, he could learn some martial arts moves or a secret skill, like he had read about Weed having. Senior Tobo soon woke him out of his reverie.

“Go help Senior Shim at the wash area,” Senior Tobo was pointing to the back of the temple.

Blitz began running to the back of the temple, and there, he saw a multitude of robes hung on a line. A thin, wiry monk was washing clothes; wringing them dry, slinging them over his shoulder and onto the line. Each piece of clothing was evenly spaced from the others.

“You must be new?” The man had a rather deep voice for someone so frail-looking, but then again, Blitz was fast becoming aware that not everything at this temple was as it seemed on the surface.

“What makes you say that?” Blitz asked.

Senior Shim replied,“Well for starters, someone who would ask a question like that is obviously not from around here.”

“Second, everyone who is not new knows not to stand behind me,” Senior Shim threw a clothing over his shoulder, which flew past Blitz’s face. It felt like he had his head out of a fast moving car.

Stepping clear, Blitz approached the monk,“Senior Tobo sent me to aid you sir.”

“What’s your name initiate?”

“Blitz sir.”

“Well Blitz, I need that area filled with water.”

Blitz looked over and saw the empty area to which the monk was talking about. It was half the size of an olympic swimming pool, which was still large no matter how you looked at it. He had his work cut out for him again.

“Use those,” Senior Shim pointed to two large ceramic jugs attached to chains, and linked to a metal bar running over to the other jug.

Blitz knew the only reason a metal bar was used was because no type of wood would be able to support the weight of those jugs. Upon trying to lift the jugs, Blitz was both happy and sad to know that his intuition was right.

“Yes sir.”

Blitz got on with the task at hand. He had to run down to the stream, which was roughly a distance of one mile, there and back. He thanked his lucky stars that he wasn't asked to go down the entrance steps. The jugs were heavy, but he pushed on. He completed the chore just before sunset. Tired and hungry, he headed back to the clothesline in search of Senior Shim, who was nowhere to be found. What he did find, though, was a bowl of rice, two steamed dumplings, and a glass of what looked to be water. Blitz wondered if they were laid out for him. Casting away any further doubts, he decided to dig in. Feeling refreshed, Blitz let out a loud burp. He wondered what time it was in the real world, and decided to log off and take a break.
