A Completely Ordinary Day

A Completely Ordinary Day

Greg sat up after the 3rd beep of his alarm clock, then promptly turned it off. He yawned with a stretch, then stepped put of bed to start the day. He went into his kitchen, ate a bowl of cereal (with exactly 7 bites per spoonful), then got dressed. Greg was a very ordinary person, living a very ordinary life, in a very ordinary city, and he liked it that way. That is, until today.

Just like any other day, Greg stepped out of his apartment at 8:34 on the dot, and said hello to the weatherman who lived next door. "How's the weather today, Josh?" asked Greg. "It's going to be nice and sunny this morning," replied Josh, who always seemed to know the weather, even on his days off. "I'd watch out on your way home tonight/. Lots of hail, and a big thunderstorm are on their way." Greg was surprised by this. There hadn't been anu harsh weather here in the full 28 years of his life. "Thanks for warning," he said. Then, they both went off to work.

----------------------------------------

Greg worked in a call center, and his job was to sell doorknobs. Why anyone would but doorknobs over the phone, I haven't the faintest idea, but Greg never found it strange. When he got to work, Greg was given a list of misspelled names attached to phone numbers, and he started calling. By the end of the day, Greg had sold 19 doorknobs, and completely forgotten about Josh's warning.

On his way home, it was raining heavily, and the roads were very slippery. He was stopped at a red light, when right in front of him, a car skidded to a halt just a second too late, and was hit by another car. There was a loud crash, followed by an eerie silence. Greg quickly got out of his car and ran up to the wreckage in front of him. It was a mess. A twisted lump of metal with at least 2 people trapped inside. "Hello?! Can you hear me?" Greg called out. He grabbed a piece of metal but immediately dropped it as it cut open his hand. His thoughts were racing, trying to figure out a way to help, when there was a loud and prolonged honk.

Time slowed to a crawl as Greg looked up. Barreling towards him was a large, black SUV. As it's headlights drew closer, Greg tried to scream, tried to run, tried to do anything, but he was frozen in place. The light was blinding the sound was deafening there was a flash of pain as he got hit and then-

... There was nothing.
