Prologue
Darkness exists everywhere.
You try to ignore it...to pretend it doesn't exist....But it does, and it has it's place.
Because without darkness there is no light. And without light there is no darkness.
If everything was light then you would eventually forget why the light was different from the darkness.
My younger brother is the hero, the one who stands in the light and saves the just and the innocent.
But I'm different. I lurk in the darkness and destroy all the wicked who cross my path.
I am the darkness that lurks in your shadows, the monster in your nightmares, the embodiment of every fear, and the destroyer of all who oppose him.
I am Azran, The Magic King of the Darkness, and one of the 13 Magic Kings.
Chapter 01
I glanced up just as a sword swung towards my head. It was pathetic really, they actually believed that a sword could kill me. I could have avoided it but I didn't, I was bored and I wanted to talk to Navaris but she was rather shy and wouldn't usually come out unless my body was in danger.
I watched the swordsman smile grimly, thinking that he had me, but right before the sword touched my face, his face filled with horror.
I grinned as Navaris came screaming from my shadow, a mess of tentacles, snakes, thorny vines, and God knows what else, in a somewhat humanoid shape.
I watched the man scream in horror for a mere second before Navaris began dismembering him, sending blood and guts splattering everywhere.
Not that it really mattered, I was standing in the middle of a warehouse that was flooded with blood and corpses, they were a cult who had tried to assassinate my brother.......Bad Idea.
There are a few existences you do not mess with.....Ever. One of those is a Magic King, the most powerful force in the world. It gets worse if his brother is the Magic King of Darkness, and even worse when that brother has Nyarlahotep, as his guardian spirit.
Yep, that's right Navaris is actually Nyarlahotep, the one from H.P. Lovecraft's stories.
Of course Lovecraft did mess some things up such as the fact that Nyarlahotep is FEMALE!!
He did get the 1,000 different forms right though, and most of them would drive any sane person crazy, but maybe I was never sane to begin with.
I first met Navaris when I was a child, my brother, George and I were born into a prominent magic family, about two years apart. I was the older brother and my parent's first child, but George was the prodigy, who began using light magic at the young age of three, while I did not show any significant talent in anything.
However; unlike some people who would be jealous, I was genuinely happy for my brother and always encouraged and supported him. We were always close to each other, but the one event where I met Navaris cemented our eternal brotherhood.
It occurred when I was 11 and George was 9, we were playing with George's "fiance" Marie, the daughter of another prominent magic family. While we were playing, a rogue group of magicians slaughtered our chaperones and kidnapped us.
George tried to fight back but they threatened Marie's life, so he surrendered.
They then took us to an abandoned warehouse where they tied us to pillars with chains until the ransom arrived. The disaster occurred when some of the more twisted ones decided to try and rape Marie.
When they attempted to rape her, George broke his chains and incinerated the one who was touching her. And I mean incinerated, there was nothing left but a pile of ashes. Unfortunately he still wasn't strong enough and lasted about 5 seconds before being bound with magic and beaten by the others.
I still remember the fear, anger, and hatred I felt then, as I screamed trying to help him, but was unable to do anything. I thought I had reached the limit of my sanity when was watching them beat my brother, while his fiance screamed in horror......but I was wrong.

One of them decided that they only needed two hostages and raised his sword to kill my brother.
And that was when I snapped, my mind simply could not accept the fact that my beloved prodigy of a brother was about to die.
I vaguely remembering screaming constantly while the chains that held me rotted and fell away, while a being out of your worst nightmares came screaming out of my chest.
After that everything was just one red blur, and when I regained my sanity I found myself standing in a sea of blood and tiny chunks of flesh.
Later, George told me that my eyes had turned a deep ruby red, while my hair grew halfway down my shoulders, and I sprouted 3 inch long metal nails. I had then proceeded, with Navaris, to slaughter all of the magicians.
Normally after something like that you would be scared of the creepy guy who slaughtered a whole bunch of people, but George, and the rest of my family, accepted me completely. Although to this day Marie is rather nervous around me, apparently throwing someone's guts in her face, didn't help my case.
Anyway, that was when my powers awakened, and when I first met Navaris.
I shook my head a little as I finished thinking back and glanced at Navaris, as her body changed and compacted until I was looking at a beautiful woman, about 6 feet tall with a slim body, and a rather large bust, with dark purple hair going halfway down her shoulders.
I grinned before leaning forward and kissing her, She struggled weakly for a couple of seconds before kissing me back. I grinned at her when I came up for air.
"Long time no see Navaris, you're as beautiful as ever"
She blushed slightly before trying to turn to the side.
I laughed a little as watched her face. 'Who knew that the ferocious Nyarlahotep of Lovecraft's horror stories, was actually shy'
My thoughts were interrupted by the ringing of my cell-phone. I pulled it out and glanced at the number before flipping it open,
"Hey bro, What's up"
"Hey could you do me a favor and look for a series of spatial disturbances about twenty miles away from where you are. Some of the other Magic Kings are getting worried, I'm currently in a meeting with most of the other Kings, could you take a look?"
"Sure, give me a sec.....Navaris, let's go we've got a job"
Navaris nodded once before sinking into my shadow.
I grinned, it always looks so freaking cool, whenever she does that.
Once Navaris was with me I teleported straight up into the sky before sending out mana probes to search for spatial disturbances in this dimension's reality.
"Got ya", I smirked before teleporting to the location.
I glanced at the spatial disturbance, it looked like ripples in the fabric of reality.
"Hey George, I found it. It appears to be a weak point in our dimension. Like someone is trying to come into our dimension or pull something out."
"Huh, that's odd."
"Yeah, it almost seems like some one is trying to............ AAAAAAAUUUUUUGGGHHH!"
I screamed in pain as invisible wires wrapped around my arm, and tried to pull me into the disturbance which was reacting and beginning to tear in the middle revealing a endless black void.
I must have cast at least 300 spells in the next two seconds, but they all failed to affect it, even Navaris's magic, tentacles and black acid mist failed to do anything. I struggled for a few more seconds before being yanked forwards into the darkness.
My last thoughts were about the irony of the Magic King of Darkness being flung into an endless Void of Darkness.
