Chapter 5: Jorousian Embassy (Part 1)

Chapter 5: Jorousian Embassy (Part 1)

Around the City of Thermus is a nearby Power Plant which provides the source of electricity for the entire city. These Power Plants where a joint project by both the Kingdoms of Jorouse and Exavis in their attempts to assist not only Axis Academy during the early years but to also help the growing economy of the city.

However in this particular morning is not one to be taken lightly. The Military Police wandered about as they looked around the crime scene around them. The bodies both the staff and the local security are laid about the halls meanwhile the main generator has been destroyed as last night there had been an explosion resulting in a blackout in the entire city.

“Status report,” A Military Police Senior asked one of the Officers who were currently investigating the area. “What happened to the Main Generator?”

“Uh well ah we had the Chief Engineer look at it,” The Junior Officer said as he handed him the autopsy report of all the victims as he read through them. “The Damage had been so significant that we’ll have to get the entire facility rebuilt.”

“Even the Backup Generators?”

“Even the Backup Generators.” The Junior answered as they looked over the dead bodies of the victims. “It was destroyed through the use of a remote explosives, all of the victims were simply near the blast radius when it happened. And more importantly they left this by the entrance.”

The Junior handed him a small book on the cover reads one sentence. ‘The True Liberation of Axis.’ This immediately earned a scoff from the Senior as he threw the booklet aside. Earning a confused look from the Junior.

“So it's them.” The Senior answered with an irritated glare as he pulled out his phone. It was the last resort for the Senior but with the incidents involving this particular group have grown even worse with the passing day.

“I’ve dealt with these people and looks like they’ve started to become more dangerous.”

“What do you mean sir?”

“I’ll explain later, we’ll need help from the Academy itself.” The Senior answered.

It was a bustling morning for the Academy that day, news of the Power Plant Explosion had quickly made their way to the Academy itself. That and the fact that the power went out only to come back through the use of the Back-up Generators of the Academy should a blackout were to actually occur.

“I heard that the one responsible for the explosion were the Axis Liberation Coalition,” Jun Zhan, a student from Class A, told her classmates during homeroom that morning.

“Axis Liberation Coalition?” Lissa gave her a confused look.

“It’s this Separatist movement that wants Axis in general to be a separate nation and not some state that’s being shared by both Jorouse and Exavis.” Jun explained to them.

“I heard about them a few times before actually,” Louis said as he joined in the conversation. “At first they started as some activist group that constantly boycotts and rallies in front of the Municipal Building and the Jorouse and Exavis Embassies.”

“Then why did they change from an activist group into a terrorist organization?” Lissa asked the two of them. “Change of leadership obviously,” The two said in chorus, the two changed glances and nodded.

“Someone likely took over and thought it would be a better idea to just fight for independence rather than just hang around and wave signs I guess," Louis said with Jun nodding in amusement.

"Come to think of it," Lissa pointed out as she looked at the Calendar on her phone. "We're about to begin our first missions."

Once the Preliminary Period was over, the students of Axis will begin to undertake missions. Each mission is based on each year, the First Years will take basic Guard Duties, the Second Years will take Patrol Duties, the Third Years will be cooperating with the Axis Military Police, and finally the Fourth Years will be taking overseas Missions.

"With all the incidents involving the ALCs there might be some missions that involve them." Lissa pondered out loud.

"I doubt that," Uther said behind her. "These people just essentially engaged in acts of terrorism. I feel like they might even let us take Missions."

"Fair point." Lissa nodded but a small smile graced her lips. "But still I can't help but be a little bit excited if we end up getting a mission."

"Really now," Jun gave her a teasing smile.

"That's a first." Uther commented while Louis quietly chuckled.

"What?" She gave them a confused look.

"Oh nothing it's just that--" Jun said but Louis nudged her. "--nevermind."

"Don't mind them," Uther said in a low voice as Professor Bell entered the classroom. At first she had a tense and worried look on her face but it was quickly replaced with her usual smile.

"Good Morning class," Professor Bell said. "As you may heard we'll be beginning the Missions--" the class quickly erupted into cheers but she raised her hand to silence the class. "--as such you will all be assigned into various teams per mission."

"That also means each team will also end up working together with students from different class." She continued earning a few giggles from the girls.

"I wonder if I end up in a team with Orphen in Class E." One student giggled.

"You know he's already on someone's strike zone right?" Another said.

"They're not dating so I think he's free real estate."

He's actually popular? Lissa said quietly scoffing as the thought of her Rival, the ever impulsive and hot blooded Thomas Orphen, being popular. Well people have wierd tastes anyway.

"When will be our first deployment in that case?" Lissa asked raising her hand.

"By the end of the week." Ms. Bell answered earning others to start talking amongst themselves. "In that case be prepared for an evaluation within the week."

True to what Ms. Bell had said, the Evaluation came a few days later. Each one of them would be tested and see if they are physically and mentally capable of handling the missions. Mostly the former as they're to see if they are healthy enough to take Missions. And so by the end of the week, Lissa and her team of five are ready for their first deployment.

"Why are you also here?" Lissa asked Thomas who simply gave her an amused smile. "Hello to you as well Ikross." Thomas replied as he planted his sword on the ground as he and Lissa stood next to one another at the North Entrance to the City of Thermus their mission was to simply help increase the security as an official from Jorouse will come and meet up with the Jorousian Ambassador stationed in Axis.

"I heard that on missions teams from different Classes would work together and--"

"--Yes I know that is a common occurrence," Lissa said in irritation. "But of all the people I had to end up working with, why you?"

"Admit it," Thomas teased after they finished an inspection of a Car before letting it through the gate and as soon as the Car had passed through he continued his sentence. “You like my presence. I mean isn’t that why you’re so eager to go on a match with me in our free time after all.”

“How about I make things clear.” Lissa let out an irritated sigh and pointed Adarin at Thomas which was inches away from his cheek. “I have no intention of being your friend nor do I want to be your friend. If anything you are the opposite of a friend, you are a Rival someone I wish to surpass. In fact, you being a rival is quite possibly the only reason I tolerate your presence.”

Thomas frowned, unlike Lissa who as mentioned viewed him a nuisance and a rival. He genuinely wanted to be friends with her and he had honestly hoped that their small rivalry in terms of their skills would have at the very least provided a common ground for them to be friends.

He remained silent as he gently pushed Adarin’s blade away and said. “Was it necessary for you to tell me that at sword point?”

“To prove a point?” Lissas said as she sheathed her sword and refocused her attention back on the main road. “Yes.”

Thomas couldn’t help but feel hurt from what she said but regardless he decided to go with it. Eventually their shift ended and another pair of teams took over until their shift would come again.

Lissa noticed that Thomas was avoiding her, truth be told it gave her a moment of solace finally allowing her to go through her notes and study. Though she had a lingering feeling of guilt build up inside her as her free time passed, she was the only one in her team that had decided to sit nearby and study while the rest go off and have fun.

"A little peace and quiet just how I like it," Lissa reassured herself as she looked through her notes within the Military Police Garrison and yet she couldn't focus at all.

"You're still here Lissa?" A voice behind her said, she turned around and found one of her teammates looking for her with a surprised look on her face.

"Oh hello Jun," She nodded as she closed her notes. "I thought you left to join the others to the City?"

"I came back to grab something," Jun smiled as she sat next to her and looked at Lissa's notes. "I'm sorry to ask but why are you so fixated on studying?"

"I just want to focus on my studies and become a top student," Lissa answered.

"Why so?"

"I...I have my reasons." Lissa said recalling the memories of her time back home. How during parties and events, the moment that the friends of her parents would see her would immediately start whispering to themselves.

"Is that her?" One of the guest would say in a low voice. But enough for even her to hear it clearly.

"Yes it's her." Another would answer.

"She's actually beautiful." Another would comment. "It's a shame that she's nothing but an illegitimate child though."

"Yes. To think Lady Veronica would be capable of such actions." They commented regarding her mother Veronica.

"It's quite a shame that such a beautiful child would tarnish her family's own image."

"Lissa?" Jun asked her with a worried look. "Ah forgive me I was spacing out for a moment." Lissa said giving her a reassuring nod.

"I see perhaps we can go look at the city for the time being?" Jun offered with a smile. "That should get your mind away from things."

"I--" Lissa hesitated. The idea of going to the City and enjoy eluded her. She wanted to remain in the Garrison and study and yet she can't even focus. On the other hand it might help her relax before fully returning to study.

"I suppose there's nothing wrong with a little bit of fun." Lissa said with a small smile. This in return led to the smaller girl to smile wider at her as Lissa placed her noted back into her bag and the two went off to leave.

On the way down she spotted Thomas' Raesvelg contained within the weapon case in the Armory. This caught her attention for a brief moment.

"Thomas..." Lissa muttered, she wanted to walk past the armory but she immediately remembered the words she said earlier and her guilt intensified.

I didn't mean to say that to him though. She thought as she focused on Jun who was telling her about a Cafe that she might like. But she remembered the way his eyes lost a little bit of light when she told him that she only saw him as a rival.

But as they were about to leave the ground shook as an explosion had occurred knocking her and Jun on the ground.

"Jun!" Lissa quickly got up and helped her teammate up. "Are you alright?"

"I'm fine." Jun said slightly disoriented from the explosion but she immediately panicked. "That sounded like it came from Jorouse Embassy!"

"The Ambassador!"

"Our team is also there as well as Thomas' team!" Jun explained as the two hurried towards the Armory and grabbed their equipment.

"Then we better hurry!" Lissa said as she grabbed Adarin and threw the keys of a Car to her as Jun ran out of the room. But as she did so, her eyes fell on Raesvelg's Weapon Case. Unlike the rest of the team, who took their weapons in case something were to happen. Thomas accidentally left his there.

Without hesitation she grabbed it and ran to the car as they drove to where the Embassy is.
