Chapter 4. My diary.

Prisoner of hell. Entry number 17.

‘I have been stranded here for what looks like about two weeks. At least I think. Oh god has it been longer? It’s really hard to keep track of time with all this NAPPING TIME.’ I take a look around to see if I am alone.

*scratch*

‘I know what they are doing. First they are making me lose track of time and when I become disoriented they will make me accept strange thinks like MUSCLES. And then I least expect it BAM you are one of us.’

*scratch*

‘It took me all this time but I finally acquired this secret weapon, the Spear of death. Ha.. Ha.. Ha.. Ha.. (Mad laugh). I am currently in the process of upgrading it, by making it sharper using floor. I will not lie it’s hard and tedious work but I think it will pay back in the future. Yeah you damn gorillas won’t take me alive.’ As I was about to release another mad laugh. I was horribly betrayed.

*Growl*

I instantly turn to stone. ‘Need to admit this was a brilliant move. Even if you are my arch enemy HUNGER. Such a low punch I definitely didn’t expect.’ One must never lose composure even facing certain death.

*Thump*

“@$ is %$*^% $% Asger %%&$?” Voice came from the direction of steps.

*Thump*

‘Damn that monster heard me. But there’s no need to panic. I will utilize my ultimate chain attack using falcon kick and then following with the Spear of death. Sorry before hand, it’s nothing personal.’ I quietly give my apologies while preparing.

‘Now come! Just you and me. It’s a final show down.’

“Ah buh.” Don’t judge I am still a child but never less it’s a war cry of a man, before releasing his combo attack…

‘If I won’t survive…  Remember me…’

=====          =====

Jensina’s point of view.

It’s been already twelve days since I gave birth to our little Asger. Yes me and Gurd had discussed this when I was still pregnant. It took us some time. But we came up with two names one if it’s a boy and one if it’s a girl. And so his name is Asger. A proud name which means the spear of god.

Currently Gurd is out. He went to market. Since a caravan of traders from southern human kingdoms came to our town, Landamot.

Even thought I am already at my full strength from birth, I stayed at home. As Asger is still only few days old so he need constant watch.

Our house is simple, like most in our town. It’s made from two floors.

First floor consist of kitchen, hall and small pantry room. Stairs from hall lead to second floor which has only two rooms. One is my and Gurd’s bedroom while the second will be Asgers. If we are going to have another child Asger will have to share.

Currently I am in the kitchen making stew with rabbit meat for dinner. And Asger is playing in the hall.

He already started crawling and can sit up by himself of course only for a short time. But never less that is making us both, me and my husband, really proud. Since most other kids need at least to be three weeks old until they can do what Asger can now.

‘He’s definitely going to be a strong warrior.’ Prospects of his future are putting me a bit at ease because here in North only strong survive. This land is not so forgiving as the weak southern lands of humans.

While I was thinking about our little boys future a thought ran through my mind ‘Hmm. It should be about…’

*Growl*

‘Heh, heh. Mothers always knows what their children want.’ Well I finished preparing food so now it only need time to cook. I put everything down and walk to Asger since he’s already let me know that he’s clearly hungry.

“Oh is my little Asger hungry?” I say upon entering hall.

Earlier, when Gurd brought wood for fireplace, a little branch has fallen down. And Asger rushed to it full of curiosity and even know he’s still playing with it in his hands.

The moment I walk near him I squat down to pick him up. And then something unexpected happened.

“Ah buh.” A cute sound was let out by my little Asger while clumsily turning towards me. But he most likely still can’t control his body well since his leg moved forward awkwardly. That made him lose his balance and fall on his back. I could see little tear drops forming in the corners of his eyes. Probably he didn’t like falling down on his back so he moved his arms forward as if asking to be picked up. But even in this situation he still had that little branch in his hand.

All this movement and that beautiful sound made me so happy that I wanted to pick him up and embrace him with all my might. But I knew it would be really bad so I had to hold back. ‘Ahh… It’s so hard.’

“You are so cute while little. Ok, give me that little branch since it’s time to eat.” When I tried to take it he held it with his both little hands and it was so adorable.

‘He really likes it. Hmm I wonder why? Any way I better give it back to him later.’

Prisoner of hell. Entry number 69.

‘This is Markus Ryley, also known as Asger Haraldson, speaking.’ I once more inspect my surrounding. But unfortunately this time I am not alone since the one with beard is also in the room.

‘Following my last encounter with that monster I understood my fatal mistake, that I was too impatient. Even thought I put up a great fight, which should go into history records for future generations, I lost... I simply could not overcome that brute force which my opponent showed. Even when she… Oh god it’s so hard. Even when she … Ripped my Spear of death from my trembling hands.’ I almost burst into tears remembering my incompetence.

‘What ever the case mistakes are so we could learn from them.’ I calm myself down.

‘So after my defe… my battle of Waterloo I understood that I will never win in strength. For that reason I needed new, improved plan. To devise it I had to understand faults in the last one. Even to a point of disassembling my equipment. Days or maybe even months went by as I, all alone, had to work through this hardship.’ Nostalgia takes over me as I remember those days.

‘In the end after long discussions with myself I came to two conclusions: Number 1. I had too many enemies (hunger and that gorilla). Number 2. I didn’t take into consideration her insane strength.’ At the moment I was nodding to myself since this will help me move forward.

‘This was a huge brake through. I don’t want to brag but this is kind of equal to the discovery of the wheel. Hahahahah… When you know your problems all you need to do is to over come them.’ Yes I am now full of satisfaction, of being superior to these gorillas.

‘I will start by explaining Number 2. The problem is they are too strong. So I decided to observe them, gather intelligence and win against them with my superior brain. All the gathered intel I put in my secret notes.’ Since I am being watched I have to move with stealth to pick up my notes from my secret stash. Before getting to my secret stash I put in some feint moves so it should be ok.

‘Well let me begin my report:

1. I will start with pretty obvious thing. They can’t be humans. In other words it’s a new species I never encountered or heard about. So I decided to call them “Arnoldinum Schwarzenirium” or shorter Terminators. (In the name of my favorite actor).

2. From observation it is quite clear that this species has quite a number of specimens. Since over the time I was able to count even seventeen new faces. (It was really unpleasant since most of them wanted to touch me).

3. Apparently males are weaker than females. (Battle strategy: always start from the weaker one).

4. From as much as I could glimpse through the door or windows, I saw snow. (This totally doesn’t help me).

5. One thing I didn’t understood was strange red marks and lines. Is it some kind of symbol or a trait of species since everybody had them. In different places and shapes but never less they all had. (Note to myself: might be worth investigating).

6. It took me some time but I started to get a hang of their primitive talk. And learned that they call me Asger Haraldson and I am in some isolated town of Landamot. (Not very important).

This is all I was able to gather’ I linger a bit over my notes before putting them back.

‘Now let’s get back to problem Number 1’ While putting back my sheet of notes I take out another item hidden in my stash.

‘I have to defeat one enemy at the time. So I decided to start from hunger. With using my superior knowledge it’s going to be easy. Really I don’t even feel challenged. I will simply use tactic, from ancient times, that was always effective. It’s name is HUNTING.’ With narrow eyes I look around the room while holding in my right arm the one and only Spear of death… number two.

Of course this Spear of death… number two is way better than the previous one. It’s so much better that I don’t even know where should I start my explanation. So let’s just say it’s way more awesome.

After observing room for some time I notice movement in a corner of the room. This is going to be an easy game, but today I will finally feast like a king. ‘You poor thing. You don’t even notice death coming for you. Say your prayers COCKROACH!!’ I shout while standing up to use another special skill Dash.

*Bam* Suddenly door opens loudly.

With my supreme coordination I manage to stop in the middle of my skill, Dash. I turn around to see what happened. But what I see makes me weak in my knees. I even drop my precious weapon, the ultimate Spear of death… number two. As pure fear takes over me all strength in my legs disappear in an instant. And not being able to support my own weight I fall heavily backward.

‘Heaven have mercy on me…’

=====          =====

Gurd’s point of view.

My dear wife is currently out. She said she wanted to make something special today, since it is exactly 30 days since our boy has been born, and dashed out trough the door.

So today I am staying at home to keep an eye on our little Asger.

I take a small peek at our boy. Noticing, that he is still quietly playing, I turn back my attention to the small figure of a wolf that I am making out of wood. It’s a hobby which I picked up some time ago. Since sometimes it really helps to get by over these long winter evening.

I look through the window and see that sun still didn’t reach the highest point in the sky. ‘Hm. There is still some time until noon.’ Normally at this time I wouldn’t even be at home, not mentioning sitting comfortably before a fireplace, in a chair while carving.

For last few days was pretty much a snow storm and only just this morning it subsided. I can imagine that right about now everybody in our little town most likely is working hard while clearing roads. Not to mention inspecting buildings if there is any damage. Of course, if some house was really destroyed, pretty much whole town would gather to help.

There should also be some patrol groups scanning surrounding woods and roads. You can never know what such storm might have bought here.

While continuing to carve I take another peak at Asger. He’s crawling towards kitchen ‘did something pick up his interest?’ Suddenly he turned around and started crawling towards weapon chest. ‘Hahaha. Going to pick up your toys again?’ Some time ago he started putting under that chest his things as if hiding them.

‘So what will you pick from there?’ What father doesn’t find every little action of his child interesting?

When he gets to the chest he puts his little arm under and pulls out a yellow leaf. ‘Hahaha. When I found it in the woods I knew he would like it. I just needed to drop it accidently while bringing logs for fireplace.’ Interesting thing is if you give him something he won’t take it no matter what. But if you drop it accidently he will rush to it immediately.

From the time he picked it he carried that leaf for day not letting it go. Sometimes making some holes in it with his branch. ‘After all this time he’s still guarding that leaf like a treasure. I wonder what he sees in it?’

After looking at it for some time he made movement like a nod and putted it back. While at the same time he took out his branch.

‘Why does he love those branches so much?’ For the most of the time, since his birth, he held a branch in his hands as if some kind of weapon. At beginning he had a smaller one but one day we noticed that it was broken in half. But Asger held strong and didn’t even shed a tear as his favorite toy broke, he only looked at it as if trying to understand what happened. So I decided to find a new one  of course a bit bigger and sturdier so it wouldn’t break so easily.  After I found a suitable branch, once more it was dropped by me accidently.

I pretty much stopped carving and now only look at what my little boy will do now.

But he done something I can’t believe. ‘He stood up. He stood up!’ I shout in my head. ‘It’ impossible other kids take about two moths until they can stand up while human children I heard even need about a year!’ I don’t want to ruin this important moment to my boy so keep silent and only watch. As he awkwardly move one leg to the front and try to make a step.

*Bam* Suddenly door opens loudly.

Asger tries to turns around to look but in the process he drops his branch, loses his balance and drops on his butt.

But never less my wife, who just came back, had enough time to see him standing. Since I can see a big smile is on her face.

“Oh it looks like we are having some bear meat for a dinner. Nice catch dear.”
