AXE

Today is the day... I get to go home from deployment and surprise my wife to see a Bruins game. The flight should be around 15-16 hours. The game is on May 23 and today is May 22. "Are you ready bob, we get to go home today!" said our pilot Arthur.

"I'm ready sir."

We are now boarding the C5 and there is a lot of cargo coming back home. I think they're separating everybody into groups and I get a good friend Greg and he looks like he recently got an amputation on his left leg.

Now the plane took off and we're about 2 1/2 hours through the flight and we're over the ocean. I am now going to try and sleep through most of the flight.

I wake up to some turbulence and it is cloudy and dark I see the pilot is not in the cockpit and he is most likely in the bathroom. I only know the pilot and the co-pilot goes on the intercom. "We have a birdstrike so everybody please get buckled and please don't panic."

I already had a parachute on so I don't have to worry there is only one more parachute and the pilot gets it. I look at the cockpit and see that the co-pilot is a very impatient person.

We are going down so I sprint to the emergency door with Greg I see he has a parachute and we jump. The plane hit the water and the co-pilot barely made it because they thought it was a perfect time, but it wasn't. The pilot is also out and the explosion is huge... I'm stuck in a very tall tree and we already had equipment so Greg can help. I cut the parachute and propel it from the tree and I pull out the small emergency parachute.

I'm fine no injuries, Greg is pretty shaken up so he is still on the ground realizing what happened. The pilot and I check on Greg and he's fine, just a bit sad he doesn't get to see his wife. I have a tent in my bag so we set that up within 20 minutes. it is presumable that everyone is dead other than the pilot, Greg, and me.

He has enough MREs to eat for the next couple of weeks. Hopefully, we will get rescued today. I set off one of my 20 flares that we have. I hear and see nothing. The lake is big and we are in the middle of the forest and no signs of human life had been there. I look everywhere and see that there is a lot of life around but it's not human.

We have 2 rifles and 2 pistols with a lot of ammunition. I give Arthur my m9. I have an SR15, and so does Greg.

I am going to gather wood because we can light a fire for the night. I hear a buzzing noise "Greg shoot a flare!"

"On it!"

Greg shot the flare and I don't see a plane now. I think it was just mosquitoes. I just waited as the flare is gone. I hear a plane flying over.

This time it is actually a plane. But it has nowhere to land so I believe they called another in.

The big plane keeps circling around and we all are waiting. I'm now cooking food on the fire so that Greg and the pilot can eat. My meal is spaghetti and meatballs with some bread on the side. I don't know why MREs are so good but they are tasty and fill me up.

The pilot is now eating some cheese tortellini. Greg chose chili and beans.

When everybody finished their meals we all sat by the fire and talked. It's not cold out but we still wanted to talk by the fire and soak in the heat. We were just talking about how bad the accident could have been.

It's starting to be night and I start to lose confidence in the plane coming. So I decided to go to sleep while everyone is waiting for the plane to show up. I go to sleep and the nightmares are horrible. All it is is bad thoughts if we didn't have any parachutes.

Now it's morning so I made some Coffee MREs, the pilot didn't want any but Greg and I wanted some. We looked up and the big plane is gone. Hopefully, they are going back to their hangar and getting a plane with floats so it can land on the big lake. I heard something... It sounded like a plane but I didn't want to say anything and get them excited I shot a flare. The plane goes over the tree line and I see it has floats! "Plane! it's going to save us!"
