Chapter 2: Crystal

Chapter 2: Crystal

Boring. That’s the only way to describe Orono, Maine. She wasn’t a hunter, like her father and half-brother, so there wasn’t much to do outside of study and party at the University of Maine, Orono location. Crystal was currently finishing up a so-called ‘group-project’ in one of the libraries, since anyone with half a brain knew they were the best place to think without too many interruptions.

“Hey Crystal!”

It also made her really easy to find to those who knew her.

The voice shouted from just outside the library entrance, and she could see the student librarian at the front desk scowl and glare at the entrance. The young man who entered right after shouting for her blew the librarian a kiss, “Still wasn’t in the library Haley!” his tone was excited but at acceptable levels now. Max, a tall and ever smiling presence on school grounds, was the guy who knew everyone, as well as being Crystal's best friend.

“Sup Max, please tell me there’s going to be a party next week. My partner is on ‘Medical Leave’ so I’ve done this entire project myself,” Her partner, James, fell in with a group of heavy stoners at the beginning of semester and is a no show to everything.

Max beamed as he usually did, “Hell fucking yes. A lot of the school projects end by next Friday, so a lot of people are going to be heading over to Forsaken that night,” Crystal looked up, concerned. “Don’t worry,” Max assured her. “My buddy will be the doorman for the night, and you could easily pass for over twenty-one, so no one will question it,” He paused. “I’ve also heard that the ones organizing the whole thing are a group of foreign hotties. Josh, my bartender pal, said that he saw them with the owner and they were smoking! He said their speech was like the girl he slept with in Amsterdam. What do you say to a bit of that action?”

The author's narrative has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.

Crystal knew he was goading her. She experimented a lot, and Max knew she had a fondness for foreign flesh. She also knew that he would try to rope her into a three way. “The answer is no. Once was enough, now, if it’s just these foreign girls and I, then that’s a totally different story,” She couldn’t help but dig back.

Max sighed in defeat. “Can’t blame a guy for trying,” he muttered sadly, as he grabbed a few civil engineering books that Crystal knew he wasn’t going to read. Just another excuse to try to talk to Haley. She was the one person that genuinely didn’t like him, which of course made Max want to be her friend even more.

She shook her head as he approached the front desk, To bad for you Max. She knows that you just want to be friends and nothing more… but she hates your guts for winning that technical argument the first time around. She recalled the first week of the semester when he yelled for Crystal outside of the library's entrance, which was inside the main campus building and had an open door policy.

Since he wasn’t technically in the library, he got away with it. Which forever put him on Haley’s shit list. Even still, she couldn’t help but silently wish him luck as the girl with the icy stare checked out his books without saying a single word to him.

She got back to her project, after all, designing a dam capable of holding a certain amount of weight was hard enough, but her professor wanted them to actually make a model that could be tested on… out of legos.
