Human Arc - Prologue: The world

A great peace has held into its seventeenth year, forged between the demon and human continents after a devastating conflict which nearly saw the annihilation of both lands. The war was long and bloody, and frequently marked by atrocities of such severity that at last, the elven council and the beast gatherings agreed that such vile acts could no longer continue, and intervened. After year-long negotiations the war was brought to an end with all human and demon armies returning to their respective mainland.

The human continent slowly licked its wounds. The westernmost merchant states of Darerra initially refused peace, but after its board of merchants were offered generous trade concessions and gifts by the elves, it committed to peace. More reluctant was the Empire of Lon-Drei, that for a long time had acted as the staging point for armies trying to reconquer Darerra from the demon war hosts. Slavery and hardship prevails in the Empire, as the young Emperor Rodinus seeks revenge for his father’s murder by demon assassins.

It is also here that the royal palace is situated.

The western bank of Firo plays host to the many trade guilds, forges, workshops and artisans necessary to keep the city running. People live on both sides of the river, but the western bank serves as home to the city’s working class. The eastern bank hosts a myriad of inns, wine cellars and entertainment, along with the more well-off citizens of the city.

Outside the city, the open grasslands stretches far and wide. Vast fields provide the city’s grain supply and smaller villages along the main roads into the interior provided fresh game from the surrounding forests, and shelter for weary travelers.

In the small village of Miksani, along the northern road, Mariel Bluegale was preparing herself for the new day…
