With heavy steps it ran, for days now in fact. It used its fastest speed only to leave a trail that could be its demise, though slowing would ensure capture. Maybe it should have turned sooner, but the moment it was in its arms the only thought was run, till it heard, or rather felt, the roar. How many days had it been? That was not how it thought, each step was on its mind coming and going so fast; looking to the next one to have it pass so quickly and be forgotten. It dare not distract itself with its mission; the cold presence in its arms was all that was needed for it to become an afterthought. On numb legs it ran through the night. The next day would be the end of this journey, no matter what the outcome. Ever so slowly the sky brightened as it made its way out of a forest. Even with its large body the devastation behind it was stunning. Quite the opposite of what was in front.
The sun slowly rising over the horizon, leaving an almost golden glow in the sky. Plains to the front with a few trees spread out for a distance. With its height it can barely see a beach that leads to a shining ocean. Rippling waves created by the breeze causing the reflection of the sun to dance along its golden surface. Such things are lost to it; all it sees is a gateway to freedom, golden it may be.
So close.
Yet still so far, breaking the peace of the plain it continues on. Trees are not even given a thought as they cross its path, only to be flattened by its sheer size and power. Though something else shatters the calm of the area. The disturbance of air as something approaches is all it can hear. Even as it creates what can only be called a mountain, the flapping of wings is all that is in its mind.
Then nothing.
Reaching the end of the plain the sound stops. As ground stops breaking and all that is disturbed is sand an eerie silence takes hold. Slowed down it can only persist.
The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
Three steps
Waves can be heard crashing to shore.
Two steps
A blue ocean is within grasp.
One step
The world changes as a loud boom consumes the area as wings catch the air in an attempt to slow a dive.
Zero ste-
Talons grip its shoulders as it is yanked off the ground.
It is lost. Ice forms on the ocean as its captor turns around in the air. Even at 150 feet the earth giant is dwarfed by what can only be called a monstrosity. Even after at least 4 days of flight its only thought is to head back to its stronghold with the precious package. Its weariness evident as it does not notice the package missing from the giant. Encased in rock the almost-white blue egg will wander the bottom of the ocean. One final deed for those it treasures most. His brothers will miss him and he will miss his brothers, but this was the only outcome. They all felt it but, like always, he was the one to take action. All to protect the lord he served as best he could. As always wishing he could do more, but his live was not his own now.
I am sorry my lord…I do not know if I will be able to serve you again.
With this last thought the figure grasped by talons visibly slumped, as if resigned to its fate. White eyes that shone so purely started to dim. Death would be but a dream, there were much cruller things than losing your life.
------------
This is just a scene that will have great importance throughout the story. The story is not that clear in my head yet but i think i can start actually writing it. I will explain more about the world in the next chapter, which will happen probably not soon. Kinda new to this so any suggestions are welcome, i will try my best.
