Avalon Year 3
The Goblet of Fire

The Goblet of Fire

For the next few days, whenever they passed the central hall, there seemed to be students lurking around the Goblet. Most of them were underage, and Avalon assumed they were there to see who would add there names..

They were doing their homework when they heard a commotion around the Goblet, 2 days before the deadline. When Avalon and her friends went to investigate, they saw a girl with a long black beard being carried away, crying. Avalon noticed Dumbledore in the shadows. He was chuckling to himself. More screams were heard half an hour later. Avalon could not concentrate. She made her way back to the hall.

There she was greeted by a large group of students. Fred and George Weasley were in the middle of them. "We took an Aging Potion." George said to his friend Lee. "Not much, just a sip, only a few months you know." Fred finished. They stepped over the thin white circle that was drawn next to the Goblet. Thinking they had succeeded, they walked around it with their hands raised. But just as they were about to write their names in the line, a blinding light flashed and the twins were thrown back.

They had grown thick red beards by the time they got up. They looked at each other. They burst out laughing. They heard a chuckle from across the hall. "You're not the first to try, Master Weasley. A number of your fellow students before you have all grown beards as well, but none as thick and luxuriant as yours." Dumbledore said. Sounding amused. "I think you will find that if you go to the Hospital Wing, Madam Pomfrey will have the right potion to reverse the effects." Dumbledore said. He walked away.

They saw Cedric Diggory, the Huffelpuff Seeker, add his name to the Goblet after the commotion had died down. Not long after, the Beauxbatons students, led by their Headmistress, came in and all added their names.

5 minutes before the feast was to begin, all Dumstrang students added their names to the Goblet and entered the Great Hall. "They had better give us a chance when we are 17." She heard Ron Weasley say as he walked past her to enter the Great Hall.

As they sat down, they noticed that Barty Crouch and Ludo Bagman had joined them as well. "Welcome to the Selection Ceremony, the official start of the Triwizard Tournament." Dumbledore said. "Which will begin with the introduction of the panel of judges.

As judge for the Dumstrang Institute, Igor karcarov." The Dumstrang students burst into applause. "As judge for Beauxbatons, Madam Maxime." The Beauxbatons students clapped politely, as if they didn't care. "As Judge for Hogwart School, Albus Dumbledore," the whole of Hogwarts burst into cheers and applause. "And finally, the official Ministry judges. Barthemeus Crouch and Ludivic Bagman." Dumbledore finished.

"Now, you have been in suspense long enough as to who will be the representatives of our fine educational institutions." Dumbledore continued. The chalice was brought in. "It is my honour to cast the spell that will determine the three champions, as the official representative of the host school."

Turning his back on the assembled school, Dubbledore said, "Lego Discesset". And the fire in the goblet changed colour. A long tongeu of fire shot out, and Dumbledore caught a piece of charred parchment in his hand. "The champion of Dumstrang Instute is Victor Krum." He spoke and the Dumstrang students cheered as Victor stood up. When they saw him walk, he was slightly duck-footed and walked a little awkwardly.

The second tongue of fire shot out and a blue charred parchment flew out, which Dumbledore also caught. "The Beauxbatons is Miss Fleur.

Delacour." They looked at the Beauxbaton students. Some were crying, others were looking angrily at the blonde girl who was getting up and walking past the staff table into a second room. "I think they all thought they were going to get picked." Sharon said. Pleasure was in her voice.

The third tongue of fire appeared and shot out a new piece of parchment. And for the fourth time Dumbledore caught it. "The champion of Hogwarts is Cedric Diggory!" the whole Great Hall erupted, cheering the Hogwarts champion. "At least he's not a Slytherin." They heard Fred Weasley whisper to his brother. Cedric got up and made his way to the room off the Great Hall. Avalon had a moment's wonder if this room had always been there.

"Splendid, now we have all our champions we can..." Dumbledore started to say but stopped abruptly when he noticed everyone staring at the Goblet again. A tongue of fire shot out. And a new piece of parchment shot out. Dumbledore caught it out of habit, looked at it and said, barely above a whisper. "Harry Potter." He looked up. "Harry Potter," he said louder. He looked around the Great Hall. All eyes were now on the Gryffindor table.

Hermoine seemed to be pushing Harry to get up and walk to Dumbledore. Nervously, Harry walked over to Dumbledore who gently pushed him towards the staff table. He slowly made his way past it and into the other room. The entire Great Hall looked stunned. "I will be back in a moment if the Tournament officials would like to join me," Dumbledore said and all 5 of them disappeared into the next room.

"He's a cheat." Said a Huffelpuff boy. "He's not even 17 yet." The boy finished. Ron Weasley looked very angry. "They shouldn't let him compete!" A Slytherin said. "I protest!" A Beauxbatton girl shouted. "Protest all you want, I don't think there's much we can do about it. "A Gryffindor student said. "Why is it always him?" Ginny said aloud. "Because he's an attention-seeking idiot." Draco Malfoy said. "Shut up Malfoy," the twins said in unison. "Who does he think he is?" A Durmstrang student shouted.

"Madam Maxime weell make short work of this, mark my words." Another Beauxbatons student said. "You've got to hand it to them. They trust their giant Headmistress." Fred said as he sat down beside Avalon. "You think she's a giant?" Avalon asked as she felt herself blush. "You don't have to be embarrassed by that question Miss Potter." Fred joked at her. "But no, I don't think she's full, at least she wouldn't be allowed in our world if she was." He replied.

"Exusemoi you red haired boy. Don't you trust your Dumblydore as much as we trust Madame Maxime!" said a Beauxbattons girl, sounding very offended. "Leave him alone. He just noticed something!" said Avalon, standing up.

"Oh regarde, il a une petite amie," the girl said. "Excuse me." Fred said standing up. "I don't like my friends being insulted in a language not everyone understands. It is rude." Fred said "tu n'as aucune idée de ce qu'est un barbare non poli" the girl shouted at him. "Apologise to my friend," Fred said to her. Hermoine stood up. "She said that Avalon was your little girlfriend. And she said that you don't know what rude is because you're a barbarian," Hermoine said.

"as for Avalon beeing my girlfriend.. Well, I could do a lot worse." Fred said, winking at Avalon, who blushed again in embarrassment and barely managed to stifle a giggle. "As for not knowing what rude is. The French don't have a monopoly on chivalry." Fred added. He looked at Snape, who seemed to look back at him Alarmingly, so Fred sat back down.

McGonnagall stood up, silencing most of the Great Hall. "I think it is time for our guests and all Hogwarts students to retire to our dormitories," she said. "Excuse me, Miss," one of the Durmstrang students stood up. "We must wait for Professor Karkaroff." The boy said.

"I don't think he'd mind if you went without him this time, mister?" McGonagall said. "Plushenko, madam. And I am afraid we have no choice, madam, Professor Karkaroff has the key," the boy said. "Ah, well, Mr Plushenko, if you and your school friends will wait here, I will take care of it," she said as she also disappeared into the next room.

"We'd better be gone before she comes back," George Weasley said. With that they all got up and made their way to the common rooms. "What do you think?" asked Luna when they were all sitting on Luna's bed. "I don't know, I think Dumbledore won't want anything to happen to Harry." Avalon said.

"I don't know if he can do anything about it though, Bagman said it was binding," Lucy said. "If he can do anything about it, he will." Emma said. "How do you think he did it?" Oona asked. "I don't know, Ron Weasley didn't seem to know either, he looked angry." Avalon answered.

"It'll be interesting to see how this plays out." Lucy said. "Why did Fred Weasley call you Potter?" Luna asked Avalon. "Just a little joke they made up because they think Harry and I have similar eyes." Avalon explained.

The girls talked for hours into the night about what would happen now that Harry had been chosen as the second Hogwarts champion. At some point during the night they agreed that he would probably have to compete. After all, the age limit was something new. And they all agreed that whatever happened next, it would be exciting.
