The cave shuddered as if a low-intensity earthquake had struck. Jiang Wei calmed his heart and went to the cave's entrance to check the situation outside.
As he was about to reach the entrance, a sudden pressure made his head numb, dulling his consciousness. He barely managed to keep himself from losing consciousness, but even then, his body slumped to the ground.
"W-What is this?" His blood ran cold as he tried to muster up some strength, yet even moving a finger felt fatal. His whole body felt as if a mountain was on his back, trying to crush him.
Just as he was about to pass out, the pressure disappeared as if it had never been there. His body dropped to the ground, and he coughed up blood.
But he didn't rest and ran outside despite feeling pain all over his body from that pressure.
Since he was already close to the entrance, he quickly left the cave and came into the clearing. His body stiffened as his gaze automatically went to a majestic shadow flying off in the air.
A hologram appeared in front of him.
[Name - None][Species - Thundernile Sepok][Tier - Early-Grade Tier 5][...]
However, Jiang Wei's entire focus was on the flying shadow, which was getting smaller and smaller with each second.
After some time, he sighed and said, "This really is a Xianxia world, ruled by strength."
He lingered for a while before asking the System, "Hey, I'll heal naturally, right?"
[The pressure was just passing by, so you were not affected greatly. The natural regeneration rate of Foundation Stage should be more than enough.]
Jiang Wei nodded as he clenched his fist and felt the strength coursing through his body. It was somehow familiar, yet unfamiliar.
After spending some time becoming more accustomed to his new strength (which was easy for him, given he still had old Jiang Wei's instincts), he went to the nearby river and washed himself.
Fortunately, the System had also repaired his clothes, so he still had something proper to wear.

After a nice bath, he caught some fish and roasted them before eating. He was practically alone in his past and had picked up many skills; basic survival skills were among them.
So, even though he was all alone in a forest with no proper equipment, he could cook good food for himself.
A few hours went by like that, with Jiang Wei mostly focusing on getting used to his new life. He understood how important adaptation was, and he was an expert in it.
He had survived being a rat, gone without food for days, and endured plenty of things that shaped him. So, he first focused on setting things right.
Only then was he ready to decide on his future. He looked at the stick in his hand and let it fall to the ground.
He didn't know where to go, so he just decided to try his luck like this. But who knew the result would make him question his life?
"I refuse to believe this!"
He tried five times, and all five times, it pointed south. The direction itself wasn't a problem, but the being who rested there was.
Jiang Wei had seen the Thundernile Sepok heading that way, so why would he follow? He didn't have a death wish, even though he liked to flirt with danger.
Finally, after many tries, Jiang Wei threw the stick aside and chose to go west. After all, to the north, a big lion was waiting for him.
While traveling west, he made sure not to alert any Spiritual Creature. He was only at Foundation Stage, and any random beast out there could kill him.
He just wanted to leave this territory, which seemed to be screaming danger. As for his destination, he planned to join another sect where he could have some fun.
As far as he recalled, the Soaring Eagle Sect was in the east, and its rival, the Blue Wind Sect, was in the west. Those two were mortal enemies and would go to any lengths to bring each other down.
But he didn't know the exact location or direction, so he simply followed the sun's path while praying that the powerful Spiritual Creatures wouldn't notice him.
He traveled for a few hours and only stopped when the sun was setting on the horizon. Looking back at the forest, he thought, "I've been running the whole day and I'm still fine? Damn! This body is really strengthened."
The Foundation Stage was the first step on the cultivation path, involving the creation of a solid foundation that could handle the pressure of higher stages.
It included strengthening the body so it could handle using Aether in later stages. Typically, this was done by using natural Aether to temper one's body.
Jiang Wei didn't need to do that because of his System, and for the same reason, his foundation was extremely solid, making his body far stronger than that of others at his level.
"Should I rest or not?" he wondered, surveying the area. There was no safe place to sleep, which could be dangerous.
Thinking of that, Jiang Wei decided to continue his journey, even though it was getting dark. Since he’d be in constant danger regardless, he might as well cover more ground.
Just like that, he passed through many dense forested areas where it was hard to even walk, rivers where massive fish could swallow him whole, and various other obstacles.
But the most significant challenge was the Spiritual Creatures. He encountered many, and sometimes, he barely made it out alive. Those run-ins reminded him just how cruel this world was.
Danger lurked in every corner.
However, instead of being afraid, he was thrilled. This was the world he deserved to live in.
