Your Life matters to Me (2)

Allen Family Manor

---------

Ryuk's perspective:

In front of the gate of the mansion, three figures were talking to each other, while a bit far from the gate stood a squad of well-organised metahumans waiting for the conversation to end.

"Sorry for not being able to tag along with you, Master Allen," Alfred apologised, looking slightly unhappy on the surface, who was standing by the gate. He looked like he was in his twenties, but his dark black eyes looked so old as if they had so many stories to tell; his light skin and dark hair matched well with the butler's dress.

"It's fine. If Ray hadn't caught a cold, I would have taken both of you along with us," Thomas sighed, looking at me, who stood outside the gate. He was a young man in his twenties; he had pale skin, white hair and crimson eyes that shined brighter than fire, in a well-dressed manner, which made him look like a noble.

"I said I am fine- *cough* *cough*," Ray tried to refute, standing beside Alfred, he looked as if he was in his teen years despite only being five years old, it was because he was a metahuman. The kid shared similar features with the man outside the gate except for the fact that the kid had blue eyes that looked like the ocean itself, he also wore a different grey coloured uniform which put his gentleman-like nature on display as no one would like to wear such clothing at night to just say a small goodbye.

Ray's perspective:

"You are definitely not fine, young master and I don't trust the recruits enough to take care of you by themselves," Alfred stated, placing his right palm on my left shoulder gently.

"Don't stay up all night reading books with this kind of health; go to sleep early, alright?" Thomas asked, patting my head.

"... Fine," I said, grumpily. "Goodbye, uncle."

"Goodbye, Master Allen, have a safe journey," said Alfred.

"Goodbye, both of you, stay safe, and if anything happens, give me a call. I will be here in a second," said Thomas, walking away from us while waving his hand. "Let's move, we don't have more than one day to finish this mission."

At his command, the whole squad of metahumans started moving towards the city in an organized manner, while he walked in front of them.

And there goes my last line of defence...

"Feeling scared?" Ryuk asked, looking at the back of the metahumans that marched towards the city while standing beside me.

It would be a lie if I said I wasn't.

"Being scared is good, it keeps you on your toes, but... That soul... It isn't bothering you anymore?" Ryuk asked.

As strange as it may sound, he is extremely calm right now.

Support creative writers by reading their stories on Royal Road, not stolen versions.

"... That is strange indeed," Ryuk stated, in a surprised but calm tone.

"Call me when the dinner is ready," I asked, looking at Alfred.

"Of course, I will, young master," Alfred replied.

After my uncle, my last line of defence had left the manor, I headed straight to my room and sat down at my armchair while Ryuk sat in the armchair opposite mine.

Sensing my presence, Wally walked out of his hiding place from underneath the bed and climbed on the table in front of me.

"Open the project 'Cyrus stone'," I ordered, resting my head on my right arm and checking the time on my watch on my left arm; it was 7:48 pm.

"Voice recognised, opening project 'Cyrus stone'," spoke Wally.

As he spoke those words, a blue-coloured hologram showing the map of our manor and every being or object present in it, appeared in front of me; it was being projected by Wally's eye.

The hologram showed a detailed plan of the counterattack on the assassins.

"You didn't account for any simple means for the assassins to get out of your garden?" Ryuk asked.

"Why would I account for that? I got it all covered from the other side, I don't think they will try any simple means," I answered.

"It's primary stuff!"

"Wait a minute, I deleted it..."

"Deleted it?"

"I deleted it from my brain. Listen, my brain is my hard drive, and it only makes sense to put important stuff in there, things that are useful, really useful," I explained, moving my head up and pointing my brain with my right hand. "Ordinary people fill their heads with all kinds of rubbish that makes it hard for me to find the stuff that matters, do you see?"

"But it's one of the first-level spells; you won't account for short-range teleport?"

"My drones can kill him as long as he is in the garden, the hydrocannons can get through his defences and then my drones will do the rest, simple!"

"... You are stressed out."

"Sigh... Sorry, I didn't mean to shout... Wait a minute, you are stressed out as well. Why are you worried?"

"Seriously? Are you so dumb as to not realise that I don't want to realise that I don't want to lose a friend I made after a millennium?!" Ryuk shouted, with genuine anger.

A friend... I wonder if he understands the meaning of the word friend... A fifth dimensional being knows the meaning of the word friend and yet... Here I am, not being able to understand it yet.

"Huh... Right... I... I am such an idiot!" I said, standing up. "Right, first things first, let's have dinner. Wally, deploy some more nanobots in the water system; I want the hydrocannons to be filled with waterproof nanobots that can paralyze anyone in contact. Fifty thousand volts? No, that might be more effective since he will be wet due to the hydrocannons; make it ten thousand volts, accounting for the fact that he is a wizard."

The hydrocannons are strong enough to cut diamonds; they would have no problem getting through the wizard's defences once or twice, but I couldn't let him have the time to think.

Paralysis won't have much effect on him for long but it will give my drones enough time to completely shed him with their energy bullets.

"It will be done in a moment, sire," Wally answered.

I headed towards the wardrobe and took out a white round collar shirt, a black suit with a stand-up collar, a pair of black double-layered gloves, an oval patterned dark blue tie, and lastly, a black top hat from the right side of the wardrobe.

"What are you doing?" Ryuk asked, confused by my actions.

"If I am gonna die again, I better go out with style," I announced, wearing the set of clothes that I took out.

"Are you planning to die? I don't understand your human humour; I can't save you this time; remember that!" Ryuk asked.

"Maybe..." I answered, slipping my right arm inside the suit. "But isn't it thrilling? Don't you wanna find out?"

"The only thing I want to find out right now is how much of Grey's personality you copied," Ryuk exclaimed.

"Detective part, hundred percent!" I stated, putting on my top hat. "But... Something's amiss... Hm... Right! A cane, I need a cane! Wally, can you turn into a cane? You can do that, right? I mean, you're made of nanobots, so why wouldn't you be able to? Of course, you can... Why am I even asking? Just—go ahead and do it already."

"As you wish, sire," Wally answered, transforming himself into a black cane with a silver handle before launching himself toward my hand.

Swoosh

Clang!

"Are your gloves made of extraterrestrial alloy as well?" Ryuk asked, confused by the sudden clanging sound that was made when I caught Wally.

"Huh? It looks like you noticed that my whole uniform also has an energy barrier feature. So even if he self-destructs in front of my face, I won't feel a thing," I explained, winking at Ryuk.

"So you were worried for nothing?"

"I wanted to see your reaction, I think that's a pretty good reason?" I stated, tapping my cane on the floor. "Does the floor feel funny to you?"

"The floor, what?"

"I feel a small amount of vibrations; that would be Alfred, I guess," I stated, checking my watch once again; it was 8:32 pm.

Knock Knock

"Ok... That makes no sense, how do you know that?" Ryuk asked.

We came in here at 7:48 pm, and dinner was ready by 8:30 pm, as always, I asked Alfred to call me when the dinner was ready, it was 8:32 pm, and only his shoes are a bit heavier than the other maid's and butler's and makes a light vibration on the ground when he walks, you can feel it as well as long as you stand on the floor or hold something that is touching the floor, it's pretty simple if you follow that basis.

I silently opened the door while answering Ryuk's question in my mind.

"Why the dress, young master?" Alfred asked, looking at my untimely outfit.

"We are having some uninvited guests, Alfred," I answered, walking out of my room while Alfred followed after having closed the door. "No need to alarm my uncle nor my dad; they are mine to attend. I will explain everything later; first, prepare my dinner, please; I don't wish to fight my first battle on an empty stomach; that would be quite unfair."

"For them, young master?" Alfred asked, confidently, supporting my decision.

"Yes, Alfred. For them," I answered.

Tonight, we change the future.
