Intermission 2: "Demon Lord"

2nd Chapter for today!

A bit on the shorter end! (sorry!)

It felt like it really ended well as it was, so I restrained myself!

Intermission 2:

"Demon lord"

*-*-*-*-*

Smoke filled the air around him and the sun stood high up in the sky. Fire burned down the village secluded from any contact with the known human capital. It was built at the foot of a mountain alongside a stream running down from the very same overfed hill. With no other towns built close to the miners' village, it would be hard for the residents to call for help. That didn't stop them from trying, though, as tormented screams of pain came from the lowly humans that writhed in agony on the ground.

It was a good day.

"Hah.. haha! a-HAHAHAA!"

A three-staged laugh escaped the perpetrator that was positioned high up in the air. He decided to fly upwards, covering the sun with his spread wings, in order to make for a dramatic scene.

"BOW BEFORE ME! FLEE IN FEAR! AND SCREAAAM AS THE FATE OF YOUR KIN IS HELD WITHIN MY GRASP!"

Elgor looked proudly upon his first creation in many years as more smoke -which brought the scent of burnt flesh and blood- filled his nostrils. 'The demon lord has awoken! Run for your lives! The doom is upon us!'  Is what they would say about him. He didn't dislike that thought.

But he is no demon lord.

Elgor, the first servant to answer his master's call four days ago, had been sent on a mission far away from the demonic plateaus. He would normally take his sweet time to follow the sleepyhead's command, but this time, he too, was curious about the power which the demon lord had felt that day. He wanted to find it, crush it and forcefully take it.

But he didn't plan to give it to his master.

No... He is no demon lord... His power was not near enough the absolute fear he always felt when kneeling in front of his master. As he was now, he couldn't dream of disobeying while in that monster's vicinity, even though he tried so hard to gain enough power to do so. For now, all he could do was jeer and plot the demon lord's downfall outside of his vicinity. But this flicker of hope might be able to change that. Elgor wanted to believe so.

Elgor wanted absolute power. He  wanted to stand at the pinnacle of fear as others would tremble before him! But that SLOTH of a demon lord just happened  to affect others naturally.

'It was in his blood'  Elgor would always be told.

His master was his greatest aspiration AND fear. He couldn't wait until the day he  would become the demon lord after annihilating the sleeping one. But accummulating power took time, and the power of his carefree master wouldn't simply perish, so he bided his time in order to strike at the right moment, whether that meant he would continue to slaughter innocent humans for thousands of years to rile them up, or simply go face to face after getting the strange power emitted four days ago.

The gargoyle pondered upon his question as he looked at the tiny ants burning from afar. They were getting rowdy. Some even tried to take advantage of the situation to steal, only to perish a moment later by the ever watching gargoyle's words.

"...Right!.. I need to keep a few alive in order to spread the words! Oops... Not good... Not good..."

Elgor furrowed his forehead and looked down upon the streets in between all the burning houses, searching for people that might have survived.

"Lets... Ah! That will do! Yes...EheheEh... That will do indeed!"

Laughing crazily to himself, the tall human-like creature with a cursed bat-like face descended down into the burning village made of clay, wood and dirt, and stopped himself right infront of a house made of stone that had not caught fire. A still legible sign above it burned slightly. It read: 'Will o' Blacksmith'

"Alright... Is this how they do it?~ Ahem... Knock knooOOoock!~ Anybody hooOOME?~" The gargoyle said in a sneering voice as he broke down the reinforced door. "Ah! No... Right! I should not break while knocking! Right! Sorry!..Ehehehe..."

"M-M-MONSTER! G-GET AWAY FROM US!"

Elgor stared at the family of three that crouched on the dirt ground in the middle of the extremely hot building. Stone may not burn, but they would still heat up. Though, it wasn't hot for him, thanks to his rather resistant skin, but he knew what temperature he himself had created. He locked eyes with the muscular man that had just a second ago cried at him and made a frightening smile which reached up to his bat-like ears. This man was probably the smith and owner of the shop.

This story has been stolen from Royal Road. If you read it on Amazon, please report it

"Ohhooo~ But today is your LuckyDAYyy!~ For I,  The demon lord RUBRIS  have decided to Spare. Your. Lives!~"

'How sneaky you are, oh great me! Now master will take blame for this!'

"...Ah!.. But then... He will take the credit for... Ngh.. Kh.. DAMMIT! JUST THIS ONCE!"

Elgor accidentally thought out loud as he started to discuss with himself of how he would execute his perfect plan, right in front of the burly man and his wife and their daughter that were all shocked over the word 'demon lord'. The smith's knees shook in disbelief and he tried to cover his fainted wife and daughter.

But their condition didn't matter to Elgor one bit, as long as they were alive long enough to tell the tale.

"I'll let him have it, just this once! Nnghh but then!.. Ah... Eh... Nghh... AGHH- YOU! The still conscious human!"

The gargoyle walked with his long, thin legs over to the crouching father that embraced his dear wife and daughter in his arms. Elgor towered above him and a shadow was cast due to the light from the fire that still devoured houses outside. He crouched down, and stared intently at the human.

"What do you  think? Should I tell MY  name? Or use that sleeping idiot's? ...Wait... Ah shit! I'm not supposed to NOT  be the demon lord! Why  do I disclose this EVERY  time!? DAMMIT!"

"De... Demon... D-D-Death... Help..."

The man still hadn't recovered from his last shock, and only mumbled nonsense in disbelief as his arms were held around his family. It would take some time until he regained his senses.

"This might still work... Yes! Now... HOW  do I make the others believe these runts?.. Hm.~ Ehhehehehe! YEES!~ Yes. That will do! I'll do JUST  that! Kh- ahAHAHA! GREAT! YOU'RE A GENIUS, ME! Good job! Yeah!"

Elgor lifted his arms up to the roof -which he could almost touch just by standing straight- and began uttering the words to one of his favorite spells.

Teleportation.

"khehehehe.... Bye BYE, lowly ones! ~Oh find my time and flow through ME! Let the past be the present, and I'll teleport THEE!"

The gargoyle waved his hands with glee as a pressure of air began forming around the ones chosen by himself. A second after they dissapeared and Elgor cackled at the thought of others seeing a pair of pale humans appear out of thin air, talking about him.

"Ah! But... DAMMIT! What if they DON'T  end up close to humans?! Fuck! I'll have to do ALL this work again! Ehehehhe! Yes...~"

While pretending to be discontent, Elgor couldn't have been happier unless the demon lord himself decided to die right on the spot, but he didn't think that would happen anytime soon. This was exactly what he wanted. More of slaughtering innocents to gain power for the current demon lord's demise, and more of teleporting them away! He truly, truly, LOVED the teleportation spell.

He loved it exactly because he didn't  know how it actually worked and just sent the target to a random destination. He probably didn't even use the right words for chanting the spell, as many words could still roughly mean the same thing, yet have different effect as a whole.

"Alright then! Enough fun for now! Time to go and continue my flight towards the source of that power."

This had only been a stop for him to relax his wings after having flown for four days straight. There was still quite a distance left to catch up to what he believed was a forest. Close to eight days, in fact, but he had been wrong before. Standing up and then after walking out of the stone building, he looked back at it, then turned and walked away in a dramatic fashion while uttering one word.

"Burn."

The stones went up in flames and cracks appeared in them as they later started to melt. Elgor looked back again with a devilish smile before he stretched his black bat-like wings, and took flight into the skies and onwards to his next playground.

Elgor is not a demon lord.

But he would damn soon be one.
