“Where were you hiding the past three days?” Brass asked the one thing weighing on his mind.
“The healthcare department room.” Aisael replied nonchalantly. Brass shook his head in disbelief. No one would remain in the healthcare department unless they were bored out of their minds.
“Where are we going?”
“The laboratory.” Brass explained. “We’ll need to engineer a replica of your battle forks so you can train with it outside of AMRA’s matches.”
Both of them did not take long to reach House Clovis’ laboratory. It was a hall filled with astrals in white coats fiddling with equipment of varying sizes. Brass led the way into the innermost room and knocked on an opaque glass door.
“Come in.” A voice answered lightly. The door slid open automatically revealing a woman in her late twenties standing behind an examining machine. Apart from her slightly disheveled white coat, she was otherwise dressed modestly.
Revelation activated and Aisael saw the woman’s information.
[Jia Ling
Condition: Heathy
Astral Circuit Grade: Low Gold
Energy Type: Tier 3
Power Level: 120]
“Sorry to bother you Miss Jia.” Brass waved apologetically. “This is Jia Ling, House Clovis’ Head Technician.”
Aisael greeted politely.
“Pshh, no need with the formalities Brass.” Seeing Brass come in, Jia Ling tidied her appearance a little. “So you’ve finally found Blue One. Come, sit here.”
She offered Aisael a seat and started operating a machine. It hummed softly in response to her touch and a thin blue ray scanned over Aisael a few times. Jia Ling made curious sounds while scrutinizing what was shown on the monitor.
“How long will it take to forge the replica?” Brass stood idly by the side.
“An hour probably, at most two.”
Brass scratched his head awkwardly.
“You can go if you have something to attend to. You'll know when I'm done with Blue One.” Jia Ling offered to look after Aisael temporarily.
“I’d appreciate that very much, Miss Jia.” Brass expressed his thanks as the glass door slid quietly behind him.
The atmosphere in the room became unexpectedly colder.
“Now,” Jia Ling flicked a switch on the side of the work desk and looked at Aisael apprehensively, “Tell me who you are and who you’re working for.”
Aisael was shocked. He found his body was immobilized.
Did she find out who I am?
“You may have disguised yourself as Blue One but your circuit is too organized and complex compared to his. You can choose to cooperate willingly or have your circuit crippled and be handed over to House Clovis’ Elders on the account of being a suspicious individual.” A sliver of sadistic glint shone in Jia Ling eyes.
“You’re right, I’m not Blue One but my circuit was originally his.”
“Do you take me for a fool?” Jia Ling frowned. She thought Aisael was bullshitting. No two individuals can have the exact same circuit as it was much more intricately unique than a fingerprint.
“I have here a device that can trace any changes made to a circuit.” Jia Ling took out a handheld device. “Last chance to fess up before I turn you in.”
Seeing Aisael unfazed annoyed her for some reason. She immediately activated the device and a tiny current entered Aisael’s body and quickly returned to the device.
If you encounter this story on Amazon, note that it's taken without permission from the author. Report it.
“How is this possible?” Jia Ling was awestricken. The device showed the entire optimization process of Blue One’s circuit from the last three days. She had already forgotten about the possibility of a security compromise and was more concerned that a talented genius could roamed around Milestone City unnoticed.
Aisael’s optimization left no trace that it was done externally. That meant it was executed internally, which required an extraneous amount of precision and awareness. Who was foolish to send someone with valuable capabilities to do the dispensable work of a spy?
“You’re not Blue One…”
“No, I’m not. I’m Aisael and I’m not from around here.”
Jia Ling shook her head.
“Even if that were true, how could you have Blue One’s circuit? It doesn’t make sense.”
“I’m not sure either.” Aisael hung his head. “I only remembered touching an object that might have triggered the transmigration.”
“Transmigration? When did it happen?” Jia Ling touched her chin. Although transmigration was not a foreign concept in Dawnlight Continent it was still in its theoretical stages.
“Four days ago, a few moments before I got First Blood on House Magnum.”
Jia Ling let out a long sigh. If what Aisael said was true, then the Blue One that everyone knew has ceased to exist.
“What was your occupation pre-transmigration?”
“A super-soldier.”
Jia Ling nodded.
That’d explain Blue One’s improved combat prowess.
“I’m guessing astral circuits exists where you came from since you’re able to make huge changes to Blue One’s circuit in a short amount of time. But I’ve never come across this type of circuit before, it doesn’t seem like a regular circuit. What kind of circuit is this?”
“It’s a Camelion circuit. Blue One’s circuit was primitive and left little room for progression. Hence, I changed it.”
Aisael knew that he was at the mercies of the woman before him and had no choice but answered truthfully. Jia Ling might have done the same if their positions were reversed.
Fortunately, she recognized Aisael would gain nothing if he lied. Her distrust lowered after discovering more of his origins. Although what Aisael disclosed seemed farfetched, most of it was theoretically achievable within the century.
“So what are your plans now that you’re stuck in Blue One’s body?”
“I’m going to find out if my transmigration was intentional.”
“You think someone summoned you?”
“The possibility exists.” Aisael did not deny that likelihood.
House Clovis’ Head Technician contemplated what she should do next. The right thing would be to report to the Elders and hand Aisael over immediately.
However, Jia Ling wanted to dissect Aisael. Who knew when she would get another opportunity to study such a fascinatingly complex circuit. But she knew she could not keep Aisael for long because his recent performance in ARMA’s match made him invaluable. His disappearance would arouse suspicion.
“I’ll cut you a deal. I won’t cripple your circuit, or turn you in. But I’ll have you monitored closely.”
“Sounds fair enough. In return?” Aisael knew he could not walk out of here for free.
“In return, you’d have to help me with two favors.”
“Okay.” Aisael accepted immediately. Two favors were nothing to him so long as it meant regaining freedom.
Jia Ling wrapped a bracelet on Aisael’s wrist and his body regained mobility.
“This bracelet will disguise your astral energy as Blue One’s.”
Although Aisael suspected the bracelet might be more than just a camouflaging trinket, he knew he had to make the best of his situation. He knew this was his only way out of his predicament and he was not afraid of whatever Jia Ling would request.
“So what kind of favors do you need me to do?”
Jia Ling placed a compact design machine before Aisael.
“The first is to produce a comprehensive method to completely optimize one’s circuit internally.”
“I can’t do that.” Aisael refused. Disclosing such cutting edge information will only put him at risk. He was in a foreign land with no allies and potentially countless enemies. “But I can share with you a technology of equivalent value.”
Jia Ling knew that her request was an unlikely one but her eyes lit up when Aisael said he was willing to compensate with something of the same merit.
“What is it?”
“An Amp Tablet. It will temporarily increase the quality of energy generated by tenfold when consumed.”
Jia Ling’s eyes grew as big as marbles. Her reaction was what Aisael hoped to see as he was unsure of the value of his proposed technology.
It did not take long for Aisael to learn how to operate the design machine under ELZB’s guidance. The machine’s resource library showed him the available materials in Dawnlight Continent. Although House Clovis’ production technology could not compare with that from Aisael’s world, it was enough to manufacture the Amp Tablet.
It took Aisael under ten minutes to design the Amp Tablet’s manufacturing blueprint. This Amp Tablet, however, would function differently than described.
A regular Amp increases the quality of astral energy but the one Aisael designed would leave residues of unidentifiable harmless energy. He did this to ensure his Camelion energy would not seem out of the ordinary when exposed.
Jia Ling saw Aisael handled the design machine fluently and assumed he might be a super-soldier with designing expertise. She nodded approvingly at the Amp Tablet’s blueprint. She regretted not asking for something more complex.
“One down, one more to go.” Aisael felt a little a relaxed after the designing the Amp Tablet’s blueprint. “What do you need me to design next?”
Jia Ling shook her head. Aisael thought the second favor was related to designing. But only she knew her second request was an improbable comparison to the first.
“I need you to rescue someone.”
