Within the deepest color of the night, one faint object tainted the canvas. Attached to two resting horses, the stationary carriage quietly imprisoned within its steel bars a mage captured by human soldiers, hindering its goal of becoming an ultimate being. This mage, despite her size and age, had gone through various adventures for the purpose of attaining the desired goal, yet now, cower in the mercy of her enemies' hands. With help very far from her, how will she now break free from the clutches of the humans who intended her destruc- wait!!!! That's me!!
Curses. Being inside this human body made me think of weird things. Perhaps I was just nervous due to the fact that I know nothing of this man's entire being. Whether it be his lifestyle or personality, I know nothing. Rummaging his memories was also impossible since only our current minds were switched. Being this unstable has gone too far, once this is all over, I definitely will find a Maakh tree to make a staff.
While I do nothing here in this human body, Nicole, Felgard and the children might be in danger. She might've been captured by soldiers before reaching the church. That Noore pig might've done something to the children. The airhead might be hurt. Truly the worst situation I ever had. Plus this man isn't even handsome. Aahh! Why must I switch bodies anyway?!!
"Hey, are you okay?" suddenly I was poked on the sides. "What's gotten into you Nathan?"
"Hahaha! Maybe they switched bodies after all!" one of the soldiers joked, making everybody else laugh. "So how are you miss mage?!!"
"Come on, do a spell or something!!"
"Nathan the mage!!"
Excruciating. Truly excruciating. But I needed to go with the flow otherwise these jokes might be taken seriously. Judging from how this soldier was being treated, he could either be a jokester like them and go along, or defensive and fun to tease with. Wait, the soldier who grabbed me from entering the carriage with my real body did call me a jokester. Therefore...
"Ohohoho! Look at me! I'm a mage! I can breath fire out of my mouth!" I became embarrassed of what I impersonated myself with, as well as how the soldiers looked at me silently. After a short silence, they all broke out a huge laughter.
"Hahaha! Nathan really is just bad at jokes!"
"Don't worry! We'll be having wine and women once we get back to the capital!"
This is bad. I need to get myself out of here, otherwise I don't know what they'll do to my precious young body. Before the carriage leaves, I must do something. I looked at the carriage where my body was still screaming for help. What I must do is get my body out and have the person inside undo the spell. He just have to say "Spell Undo" with his heart and mind, then were both fine. The problem is how to do so.
A total of five carriages were here in the outskirts of town. It seemed the two fakers were taking there time in whatever it was that took them long in there. Any second now and they might come out. Perhaps the only choice I have is to go back to the church and tell Felgard what happened. But what reason could a soldier have to suddenly vanish or stay behind?
I then suddenly had an idea. I could only gamble on this one thought. I went to the in carriage secret while the other soldiers were busy laughing and spoke silently to the one inside, "Hey, let's make a deal..."
"Huh?! You insolent mage! You dare -"
"Do you have any other choice? I could go along with this charade forever if I want to. After all, my life is no longer in danger as of now. While you... I don't even know what they'll do to you..."
"Torture! They'll torture me in your stead!"
Torture? Could it be involved in the process of human's gaining our power? Anyway, I should focus on escaping for now.
"That's why if you value your life, do as I say..." I suggested.
"Tch..." what's up with that face? Do I really have that expression? Dang it, he's dirtying my adorable face with his weird facial expressions. "I understand, then..."
"Good, now here's what you should do..." I then began telling him the details of my plan. Truth be told, I'm not a genius in making tactical decisions but I could only hope on this one.
* * * * *
Eventually that night, the two fake mages came and we all left within our carriages. The first one containing the two faker mages, the second one containing my body, and the other three were war wagons with me at the first one. I could only hope that Nathan dude isn't entirely a fool like how his subordinates poorly described me in his stead. If things go according to plan, any minute from now the carriages should stop.
Indeed they did. The horses fell asleep after I had him chant a sleeping spell for animals. Based on how my body reacted to the anti magic bars, it couldn't really suppress magic but could only limit the magical output. I had him chant the spell for ten minutes since the departure. The longer the chant, the stronger the spell (actually it took him fifteen minutes). It would take thirty minutes to an hour before the horses could wake up again. One by one, the soldiers, including me, went out of our wagons and prepared for an attack.
"Now, what could be the problem?" the faker named Myorlin came out of his carriage followed by the other one.
"Sir, the horses suddenly fell asleep. I don't know why," the soldier controlling the horses spoke.
"My, this is bothersome," he then went to the carriage where my body was inside. "Did you do something?"
"Hahaha! Y-yes, I did! Y-you foolish humans!" wow, his acting was horrible even though he did good in chanting the spell.
"Oh, and here I thought these bars could prevent magic from being casted," Myorlin tilted his head. "Well, this was the first time it was tested to a real mage anyway..."
"S-see?! Now release me and I'll spare your lives!!" do I look that stupid?
This tale has been pilfered from Royal Road. If found on Amazon, kindly file a report.
"Nope!"
"Huh? W-why?!!"
"They're just sleeping after all. We could always wait," obviously he'll respond like that. Of course it won't be that easy.
Well, that wasn't the entire plan. I then came near to Myorlin and took out the sword on my waist.
"Oh, no! I'm being controlled!!" I then slashed the sword towards Myorlin.
"Hey!" Myorlin dodged the attack. By doing so, he went out of the way of my real intention.
"Gotcha!" I slashed the locks of the prison carriage door. "Hurry..."
The guy in my body nodded and opened the door. Only that he felt the pain of the anti mage bars and backed away.
"Hey Nathan!" another soldier came near me together with others.
"No! Don't come near me!" I continued swinging my sword at them, driving them off. "She's controlling me!" I took glimpses at my body which hasn't gotten out yet.
"Claymarra, you're better at mind magic than me," Myorlin called out to his comrade.
"Then I shall," the large bald dude came near and faced his palm towards me. It could spell trouble if he'll know. "Strange..."
I have to act fast, yet this body is heavy. I ran towards the carriage to open the door myself.
"Nathan get a grip!' his companion blocked my path.
Dang it! How could I forget that my body can't touch the prison bars.
"Out of my way!" I raised my sword to threaten him. "Or I'll kill you!"
"Don't move soldier," Claymarra said. "Don't worry. She won't kill you."
I stopped upon hearing. Could it be that...
"She could've done so from the beginning," he continued. "Our mage must be too kind-hearted,"
"Hey, seriously Claymarra!" Myorlin gave a creepy grin. "That soldier is the mage? Amazing! Truly amazing!!"
"Yeah," the annoying baldy nodded. "It would seem like she did a switch spell without us knowing."
"Incredible! Such brilliance!" this Myorlin dude is becoming creepy.
I wouldn't really think separating yourself from your body while leaving behind your capabilities to be amazing though...
"Apprehend him!" Claymarra commanded.
"Actually it's her, Claymarra," Myorlin disagreed.
"No, I believe the soldier is a male, and be treated as such."
"No no Claymarra. The mage is using the soldier's body, so it's a her."
This is bad. With all these soldiers surrounding me, I cannot fight properly. At the very least the locks are destroyed. That should make way for me to formulate another plan...
I kept my guard up while monitoring who might make the first move. This body is their comrade's so they won't harm him. The two mages want me alive so they won't have this body killed because of my soul. I took a glimpse at the cage and-huh?
"Hey! My body isn't there!" I screamed.
"You won't fool us!" one of the soldiers shouted.
"No! Really look!" I pointed at the cage. As a result, their eyes followed and saw I wasn't lying.
"Nathan's right! I mean the mage-argh! The mage is gone!"
I looked ahead and saw two figures.
"Friesha, you smell weird," the airhead sniffed my body.
"I was trying to tell you! I am not the one in this body!" my body screamed.
"Hey! There she is!" a soldier pointed to them. "Capture her and her accomplice!"
Immediately, the soldiers responded and ran towards them. Archers readied their bows.
"Guys! it's me!" my body was jumping up and down. "Don't shoot!"
And arrows began raining down towards them.
"Aaahhh!" curse this fellow for making my face do ugly expressions!
Felfard came in front and blocked the arrows. I seem to have failed to notice but, this airhead is getting better by the way.
"Oh yeah, Nathan's in that body..." the soldiers paused.
"Hey! Airhead!" I waved my arms at him. Just before soldiers pummeled me down, he managed to take a glimpse.
"Friesha?"
"Stay still," said one soldier pummeling me from behind.
"Hey! The one in my body!" I screamed towards myself. "Do it! The spell I told you to do!"
"O-okay!" the me replied.
"Don't do it," Myorlin shouted. "Not until we get back to the capital, since you know how to undo your situation. If you do so, you will be rewarded."
Dang this person.
"O-oh yeah, I know how to switch bodies now," the me began to grin. "Which means she's relying on me to free her..."
"Clever one," Myorlin sneered at me.
"Oi... OI!" Felgard, out of sudden rage, held my body on the collar. "I don't know what's going on, but if you can return Friesha back to this body, do it!"
"Why would I? I could do it after this body is captured," the me just laughed. "What can you do about it?"
"Do it!"
'Wha-"
"DO IT!!!" suddenly, Felgard's face was full of furry. It was like he wasn't himself.
"O-okay!" for some reason, the soldier got convinced. "Sp-spell undo!"
Upon doing so, Myorlin and Claymarra's eyes narrowed. They stared at the boy desperately fighting off the soldiers. However, they weren't paying attention to how skilled he was.
"Claymarra, we need to get that boy," Myorlin lost his usual smiley face.
"I agree," the bald dude prepared to fight. "He must be related to him..."
"It's not working," the me said. "Spell undo!"
"Like I said! Speak from the heart, not from the mouth!" I shouted back at the confused me. "You lowlife!"
"Well, excuse me for being human!" he shouted back.
"Enough talking! Just do it!" Felgard shouted at him.
The earth below him began to shake. He noticed and leaped away before it rose into a form of a hand. Myorlin lowered the tip of his staff and the hand smashed towards Felgard. Although, he successfully evaded, he barely did at the wind sphere cast by Claymarra behind him. It pushed him towards more soldiers where he battled for his life.
"Nathan just come with us," a soldier went to my body.
"No!" he backed away. "I must do as he says."
"What's wrong with you? Hurry and come to us-"
"No!" he looked afraid. "Spell undo!"
"What are you doing! Just come here!" and the soldier grabbed me by the arm.
"Don't touch me!" I pushed his hand away. "Force explosion!"
He was pushed away with a huge force.
"Good to be back!" I smiled as I felt so normal again. "You did good Nathan!"
Felgard continuously blocked all those soldiers attacks yet was soon overpowered by their number. By the moment he was about to be hit by the tip of a sword. He got blown away by a lightning strike.
"Oi! What was that for?!!" he then realized the lightning strike could only come from nobody else but yours truly.
"Friesha!!" his shout was loud upon seeing me float on air.
"Man your annoying," I raised my hands on the air. "I guess I'll help out then..."
I began chanting a spell to summon thunderclouds. I'm still very unstable so I must not be disturbed.
"Tch! Stop them now!" Myorlin's face looked troubled (and I like it.)
"Nope!" Felgard fought the soldiers on his own to defend me.
Claymarra summoned a flame circle below me. Only that he stopped halfway after Felgard swiftly threw a rock at his bald head.
After I finished the small chant, "Hey! Nathan was it?!!"
"A,-ah, yes.." the soldier whom I switched bodies with looked up.
"How'd it feel to use magic?" I turned my head to look at him.
He was silent for a while before answering, "It was, kind good..."
"Hahaha! In-" I clapped my hands together "-deed!!" and thunder rained from the sky.
With a clap of my hand, thunder rained down from above, randomly hitting soldiers in a disorderly fashion, yet as long as it hit, it's fine I guess. Anyway, I made sure the lightning wasn't strong enough to kill any of them.
As I closed my eyes, listening to the people's screams of terror, I heard amongst the voices, my name called by Felgard. Hehe, probably to be praised at how strong, courageous, and powerful I was. Well, I'll accept any form of gratitude towards me. No, too much praise might be dangerous, I might become boastful but it can't be helped if I'm magnificent.
"FRIESHA!!!!" suddenly the screams were horrifying. That scream opened my eyes and saw...
"You're not helping!!!" the thunderstorm, was hitting him too...
On the other hand, Myorlin was smiling like crazy, "AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Are you seeing this Claymara?! Now this is the power of a real mage!!! To bring down the wrath of the world!!! To serve as true judgement by the gods!! They are the weapons of nature against humanity!!!"
Eventually, a thunder hit Myorlin and fried his smile away as he screamed in pain and lost consciousness.
Seeing how things turned out, I waved my hand upwards and was about to cancel my spell but...
"Friesha look out!!!" Felgard shouted out to me but it was too late. I only had time to look up and...
My own spell hit me clear as the sky. I let out a scream in pain like never before, being my first time to be hit by lightning. I smelled like dried fish being fried and fell down unconscious on the ground.
