Chapter 28: The power of ignorance

Chapter 28: The power of ignorance

“Ease yourself, my follower. “

Rose shifted away from the Slime while the angel’s focus was on slime and shifted behind her towards the other people in the room. Frig, who was on a floating chair, and Lucy, who was awaiting her next order from the angel. Rose shimmied up towards Frig, glancing over to the entranced slime and Nyoka who was kneeling towards the angel. “She really did piss off the higher ups, didn’t she?” She asked towards frig.

Frig glanced towards the girl, chuckling a bit “yup, though I don’t know what she did in there. Despite my… monitoring, the signal cut out multiple times.” He huffed “may have given her a faulty leash.”

“Faulty leash?” Rose glanced towards the slime’s chest “Is that even possible?”

“Hrm, older model maybe? Either way not like it matters now. “ He gave a toothy grin “While I would of loved the slime remain in my care, with the angel here…” he shrugged “we will be lucky if its just the slime getting punished.”

Rose nodded, an angel was as high up the chain of command as you could get, the only thing higher was an archangel. What ever the dumb slime did to get her attention… she couldn’t imagine. The only hint she got towards it was a name she didn’t recognize, and was told if the slime did recognize the name to kill it on the spot.

She smirked, seeing the slime completely enthralled by the angel, answering her questions like the good girl she was. She glanced towards the masked angel, wishing she could be of use to this bea- ‘woah there rose, calm down.’ She shook her head, tearing her view away from the angel. she then brought her attention to Lucy “Any idea what is going on?” She asked.

Lucy shook her head “I do not question the lady’s actions. Though I do find it strange she personally came down herself.”

Rose nodded, figuring it had to do with the dungeon itself. When she was about to ask to confirm the room suddenly chilled. Everyone in the room was assaulted by a heavy pressure, their breath caught in their breath as a single word was uttered from the angel.

“What.”

-------------

Catherine watched helplessly as the angel’s hand retracted from her face, confusion replacing it. What had she done wrong? Why was my lady angry with her? She had answered truthfully.

“This one asks again, what did that dirty little imp talk to you about?” The angel asked sternly.

Catherine thought for a moment, confused as to why her lady was dissatisfied with her answer. Perhaps it was the lack of information? “They talked to me about their adventuring party, and to meet them again if I had the chance. They were in a party with a few other people and…”

“This one is insulted by your insolence! Do not attempt to fool one such as I with petty lies!” The Angel yelled. “This one knows that dirty little imp has no adventuring party!”

Catherine was shocked, how could the lady accuse her of lying. She had spoken nothing but the truth. That dirty imp, Jill, had a party. Surely she didn’t mean Delvin, who was clean by comparison.

In the corner of Catherine’s eye she saw Rose who was hit with a sudden realization and spoke up “Ah, my lady, due to an error there was another…”

“Silence!” The angel spoke, spinning around to face Rose “This one did not permit you to speak! This one demands silence!”

A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.

Catherine’s attention was drawn away from the angel, and towards Rose. ‘heh, serves you right for interrupting the lady…wait…why do I care?’ she blinked, glancing around the room she noted it wasn’t just her, the angel, and lucy in the room, but Nyoka who was kneeling on the ground and Frig as well.

“If this one wants input this one would of asked for it!” Catherine’s attention was drawn back to the angel as it yelled, her thoughts instantly leaning back towards how, even when mad, the beauty of her was unmatched… no, something isn’t right.

She forced her view away from the angel, and found her mind cleared, she remembered everything that was said during the conversation and smiled inwardly. With her mind cleared she could obviously tell the angel wanted to know about Delvin, not Jill, but fortunately for her Jill fit the description the angel gave more then Delvin did. She slowly brought her gaze back towards the angel, and as soon as she started thinking about her unmatched beauty she cut her vision, sighing in relief inside her mind when such thoughts cleared.

“This one trusts you have realized the errors of your ways, yes? This one demands acknowledgement!” then angel yelled, receiving a “yes, my lady.” In return from Rose she turned to face Catherine “Now, has this follower also realized their errors? This one wonders, speak, slime.”

“yes,my lady.” Catherine spoke, her sense of vision still cut and her mind clear.

“This one is pleased.” The angel spoke “This one wishes to remain being pleased. This one asks again one final time, this follower this one is speaking to has met an imp in this dungeon, yes?”

“Yes, my lady.” Catherine said, playing along.

The angel paused, then spoke “This one wonders, the name of the imp you met?”

‘oh?’ Catherine thought, assuming that despite the verbal outburst this angel might have considered why Rose spoke up? Let’s play along a bit and throw her a bone. “Delvin, my lady.”

“This one is overjoyed you have decided to be honest!” The angel spoke, even without vision, Catherine could tell the angel flew down close to her, and once again felt her hand on her cheek “This one asks again, trust you will continue to answer truthfully… what did you talk about with Delvin, this one wonders.”

Catherine smirked “About their adventuring party, my lady.” As soon as those words left her mouth, Catherine felt a smack across her face.

“The Absolute insolence of this creature!” The angel yelled “This one is insulted!” She continued to slap the slime, each slap causing Catherine’s face to deform.

‘Not good’ Catherine thought, each slap carried more and more force, more mana, as the angel got more and more serious. She could already tell the rest of her body was starting to lose it’s shape as the angel took out her anger on her.

“This one knows you were in contact with Delvin! This one knows so do not lie!” She halted her assault and raised her fist, and from the feeling it gave off Catherine could tell she was gathering mana into it, just like Delvin had taught her. “Tell me! What did Delvin do to him!”

Ok, this went from bad to worse, that strike would put her into the same position she was in just awhile ago. Difference being that Violet wasn’t here and she was cornered. She had to think, did she just come clean and hope for the best? Tell her about all the plans she discussed with Delvin? Maybe that would calm her rage and give her enough time to slip away, but to where? Wait, she still had that one option…wait, him? “Him?”

The angel froze. “Yes, do you have an idea of who I am talking about? Did Delvin show him to you? What has become of him? Tell me.” Her fist charged with mana, the angel spoke desperately.

‘shit’ Didn’t take a genius to understand who she was talking about, problem was he was dead. Telling her just that would just result in that mana charged fist meeting her body. Thinking about a way out of this, her behavior before compared to now is more erratic. Catherine figured she just needed some kind of push to make a mistake, but she was lost how to give her it, unless, the thing Rose said? She did recognize it as a name but, oh well what’s left to lose.

Catherine’s face reformed, and she looked at the angel. “…------ is dead. I ki-“ the angel flew back, her arms raised in the air as her wings glowed a blinding bright light, Catherine felt the world around her freeze as she left her body.

“INSOLENCE!!! INSOLENCE TO UTTER HIS NAME!!!” The angel screamed towards an unmoving Catherine. “THIS ONE IS BEYOND PISSED! SHALL NOTHING REMAIN OF YOU!” her wings glowed bright, as she thrust them forward along with her arms, a bright beam of light shooting out towards Catherine, obliterating everything as it passed through her and collided with a barrier surrounding Delvin’s dungeon. When the beam let up, nothing remained of the slime. the floor gouged out and burnt from the beam, but notably the barrier surrounding Delvin’s dungeon remained intact.

The angel floated towards the floor and fell limp “…my beloved…” she whispered.
