Inside a pathetic-looking building in a faraway city, a man was playing a game from his tv in a dark room filled with all sorts of empty snack packages, soda cans, and other not so important stuff.
– Is he the guy? – Russ asks Yinsak, skeptical. His laptop was under his arm as both men see Saikyo's gameplay from behind him.
– I said the same thing the first time I saw him.
– What did you come here to do anyway? – Saikyo asks, annoyed. – I'm in the middle of an important match, so be quiet.
The man was in his mid-30s, was bald, and was wearing normal, everyday dark-colored clothes.
– Can we just- – Russ doesn't have the chance to finish
– I said BE QUIET! – Saikyo twists his neck back while barking with anger, causing Russ to flinch. He then turns back to face the tv. – Shut up and wait until I'm done here. Don't bother me again.
Both men wait for another three minutes before a big "defeat" screen appears on the tv. Saikyo roars with hate as he tosses his remote against a random wall, breaking it into pieces. He starts to breathe between his teeth as Yinsak asks.
– Done?
– So what if I am? – He barks.
– In any case. – Yinsak says while taking the laptop from Russ' hands. – I have something for you.
He shows what was on the screen to Saikyo, who, after two minutes, raises both eyebrows, surprised.
– Will you come with me? You're gonna love it. – He says after closing the screen.
– Will there be someone for me to sink my fist? – He asks with a twisted smile while cracking his knuckles. – I sure need to stress out if you know what I mean.
– In any case, wait for my call. – Yinsak says before turning to head to the room's door.
Once out, which was evening, and inside Russ' car, its owner speaks. – Are you sure that guy is trustworthy?
– He might be unstable sometimes but that's the secret. Now let's go.
Both men head to a hotel to sleep and leave as soon as morning rises.
After a good handful of hours of driving, the duo reaches a city in the early afternoon. Most of its colors were green, orange, and yellow. They drive for another few minutes before reaching a particularly artistic-looking house. Its painting had all the aforementioned colors scattered all over it.
Now outside the pickup truck, Russ points out. – Neat house.
– Mine's better.
– What house? – Russ asks with a smug. – As far as I'm concerned, you live in an apartment.
– Real fun guy you are. – Yinsak comically says, a smug of his own, before walking towards the door.
Once close enough, he knocks it while shouting. – Ware!
– Uh – Russ says while pointing to something near the door. – , they have a doorbell, you know?
– And did I ask? – He says while knocking the door again. – Ware!
– I heard you the first time! – Someone shouts from inside the house.
A minute later, a slim man taller than Yinsak opens the door with a stoic, blunt-looking smile.
– Yes? – He asks.
– Would you be Ware? – Russ asks. The tall man looks at him before nodding.
– That's me. – He then slightly furrows his eyebrows, clearly confused. – Do I know you two?
– There we go again. – Yinsak says. Ware tilts his head slightly.
The man known as Jhin Ware had stylish, unnatural blonde hair, bright blue eyes, pale skin, and wore a fitting dark orange jean overcoat with hot-colored silk clothes under it.
– What do you mean? – Russ asks while scratching his head. – Shouldn't he know you?
– Should. He has the most inconvenient case of amnesia you could ask for. It's entirely random. – Yinsak then addresses Ware. – My name is Yinsak. We already met.
– Did we...? – The man says while scratching his cheek with a finger. – Oh, well. In any case, come in.
Both men walk inside his house. If the outside was good-looking, the inside was just as artistic. There were no traces of either black or white in the house. All rooms were filled with a different color pallet, the living room being a welcoming mix of warm colors. Slow and soothing jazz could be heard in the background, something Yinsak internally enjoys.
– I hope you like my home. – Ware says while sitting on a small couch. Yinsak and Russ sit on a bigger one.
– It's cool and all, but we didn't come here to enjoy the view- – Yinsak starts but is interrupted by an alarm on a near small table.
– Oh, I'm truly sorry for this but I must go pick my daughter up from her friend's house. Could you wait for, say, about half an hour?
– Too long. – Yinsak simply says while standing up. – We'll go with you.
Russ sighs. – I think I'm starting to regret having a driving license.
They go out and towards Ware's garage. Once the door opens, both men see a livid red sports car shining inside the contrasting purple background.
Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.
Russ was about to ask something when Yinsak elbows him while shaking his head.
– Don't bother asking 'cause he won't answer.
The duo sees Ware turn on the engine, which roars audibly for a second, giving him space to leave the garage. They then go in Russ' car and follow Ware to a not so far blue house.
Once there, the group leaves their respective cars while witnessing something quite annoying. A group of four teenagers was picking on three little girls while they were out in the yard. What they were saying could be heard from where the men were standing.
– Say it already, Juniper. – One of the teens speaks while pushing said girl slightly. – Where's our box? We know you took it.
– Yeah. – Another teen supports the bully. Juniper shakes her head in denial.
– We don't even know what you're talking about, Dennis. – One of the girls aside Juniper says, annoyed and scared at the same time.
– Of course you do! There were only you three inside the house and my box is now missing. You better hand it to us before things get ugly.
– This is ridiculous! – Juniper shouts, angry.
Yinsak takes a closer look at the girl as he approaches the scenario with a grin. She had a simple blue dress with a weird purple long hair.
He, however, is interrupted by Ware's hand over his shoulder. When he looks back to see his face, Ware wasn't even looking at him, not even paying attention to what he just did.
– Juniper, dear. – He calls the girl who looks at him with an awed face. – Dad came to pick you up. Let's go quick because I have guests to attend to.
The teenagers look to the man before bursting in laughter.
– Is this pathetic old man your father? – One of them asks after stopping his laughing. – No wonder you're so weird. Look at him.
– And that loser over there is even worse. – Another one says while gesturing at Russ. – Where does he think he is in, the 70s?
– That other one there is sick though. – The one that pushed Juniper mentions Yinsak.
– So – Ware ignores the boys. – , let's go, dear?
Juniper stands up but the boy that complimented Yinsak threatens to push her back against the ground. He only has time to do that.
Ware grabs his wrist and raises it high up. Shocked and a bit scared, the boy speaks.
– What do you think you're doing?
– Hm? – Apparently, only now Ware realizes what he did. – Protecting my daughter, obviously. Now, let's go, dear. – He lets the boy go.
She starts to walk away from the group of teens again but another one of them blocks her path. Ware tilts his head slightly.
– I'll have to ask you to move. My daughter wants to come, you see.
– Like hell any of them will leave before handing us our box. They took it and they're giving it back.
– Listen, kid. – Yinsak says. – I don't know what box you're talking about and I couldn't care less, so move.
– And what if we don't? – One of them asks. – You won't do anything.
During the discussion, Ware simply walks past the teenagers and takes Juniper in his shoulders like a toddler. When they realize it, they start barking profanities, all of which are ignored. Juniper says goodbye to her friends as she goes inside Ware's car. Once such happens, one of the teens throws a rock against them.
It would have hit if Ware went inside a second earlier. Instead, he simply reflects it with the back of his hand without even looking. All boys look with open mouths as Russ asks.
– Doesn't it hurt?
– This? – Ware asks while inspecting his hand. – It was a rock, right? I wasn't paying attention.
– What...? – Russ asks, a bit confused, but his train of thought is interrupted by Yinsak, who pushes him.
– Let's get going.
They leave the area and go back to Ware's house. Once inside, Juniper excuses herself and goes to her room.
– In any case, what did you want to discuss with me? – Ware asks, now sitting on his couch. Yinsak shows him Russ' laptop and what was in it. Ware slightly furrows his eyebrows while tilting his head, also slightly. – Hm... I see.
– In any case – Yinsak closes the screen. – , are you with us? I still want to meet with Giovanni today.
– I have the feeling you didn't come for me, rather, for Jhin. – Ware says, a bit disappointed. Yinsak shrugs.
– Meh. – Yinsak nonchalantly says while shrugging.
– Well, I'm in.
– Wait – Russ asks. – , who's Jhin? He wasn't on the list.
– Well, Mr. Russ, Jhin is-
– I think you should save your surprises for some other time, Ware. And give me your number. – Yinsak quickly cuts him before exchanging numbers. – In any case, we're done here. Let's go, Russ.
The overcoat man looks at him with a suspicious look as he stands up. Once out and in his pickup truck, he asks.
– What was that about? Who's Jhin?
– Do I look like I owe you explanations about everything? Now, let's get going.
– What do you want? – A child that seemed no older than 12 wearing a fitting crimson tuxedo with his brown hair combed backward asks a man wearing similar clothing in front of him. The kid was sitting behind a wooden desk in a room filled with black velvet.
The man bows lightly before saying. – A man that goes by the name Yinsak Astarosa wishes to speak with you, Boss.
– Astarosa... – The kid ominously murmurs to himself. – They only bring me trouble. Let him in.
The man leaves. A few minutes later, the duo enters the room. Russ immediately notices the preteen-looking boy in front of him and furrows his eyebrows.
– Who are you?
– Good question I was about to make myself. – He says. – I was told Astarosa wanted to talk to me. Who is this random? – He now addresses Yinsak, who shrugs.
– A friend. Not that you care.
– Wait... – Russ realizes something. – Is this kid Giovanni? The same guy that you said was the boss of an underworld fighting club?
– The one and only. – Giovanni answers for Yinsak. – Looks like you don't know me, so let me introduce myself.
He rises from his chair and walks to the overcoat-wearing man. At first glance, Giovanni looked exactly like a normal 12 years old in all visible aspects. He then extends his arm for a handshake. When Russ takes it, he feels the strong grip of a grown-up almost crush his hand due to being caught off guard. Giovanni was struggling a bit to pull that feat off.
– What is wrong with this kid?! – Russ quickly pulls his hand, shaking it with pain. Giovanni laughs with a grin.
– He really doesn't know me, does he? Well, chad, looks are deceiving. I'm actually in my late 30s.
– Wait... – Russ starts to question his sanity. Yinsak ignores him.
– In any case. What I came here for is important and your help would be appreciated.
– Go on. – Yinsak then shows him the content inside Russ' laptop. Giovanni rubs his chin with a mischievous smirk. – This should be interesting. I'm in.
– Come to think of it, things were surprisingly easy. – Russ says while closing his laptop. – I thought they would be more resentful about all of this.
– Don't think too hard about it. – Giovanni says while going back to behind his chair. From somewhere there, he draws a massive black with red details pistol that both feels and looks heavy and unbalanced. He then addresses both men while inspecting the gun. – Our business here is over. I have things to attend to, so get going.
– Let's go, Russ. – He pulls a surprised Russ through his collar.
– What was that?! – He asks once out, still surprised.
– A pistol, if that wasn't obvious.
– That wasn't a pistol, that was a hand cannon. That thing is as thick as his arm. What the hell is going on here?
– Go ask him if you want. – Yinsak yawns. – I'm tired. Now, I just have to call everyone to go back to Mox. You better be prepared to drive.
– I hate you. – Russ says. Yinsak shrugs him off with a smirk.
– What if they figure me out? – A conversation takes place from behind a door. There, a man asks someone. Another voice, older and deeper, answers rather cheerfully.
– Well, just don't. What about that kid you met?
– He is no trouble like I already said.
– And him?
– On check. Nothing aside what I already told you. – The younger voice answers. – I really don't like doing this, you know?
– And I don't care. You came for us, not the other way around. Now you do what I tell you to without complaining. Now, out.
