" Thank you for your patronage! " The woman did a full 90 degree bow to see off the older man before turning the welcome sign to closed. The older man was always their last client of the day on the second Wednesday of every month for regular check ups.
Knowing this, the young woman started on her usual closing routine. Counting their sales of the day, inventory counting and finally preparing the files needed for the nurse maning the desk tomorrow.
Mr Sung wasn't here today, his wife having gone into labor last night and still being in intensive care he had obviously called out. Thankfully today was a slow day so his calling out hadn't really caused a big inconvenience to the clinic.
She made sure to remind him of that knowing how quick he was to blame himself for taking days off. The clinic was small but received a huge influx of patients. There were only two doctors and four nurses who worked in pairs so they usually needed all the help they could have.
However Mr Kim always reminded them to use their paid time off to enjoy their youth as he put it. As she combed her hair with her brush to redo her bun which had come undone while lifting and folding crates they had used to give out heat packs this morning, an older man with a thining hairline walked into the waiting room.
Making sure to avoid the orange cat who had decided the best place to take a nap was the middle of the entrance to the hallway. " How did your day go, darling ? " The older man patted her head, the woman smiled. Even though his hand undid a bit of the work she had just done to her hair.
When she came looking for a job, her grandpa reminded her his brother, her great uncle had opened a clinic a few years ago and now she was here. It was an open secret to everyone except herself that her boyfriend was cheating on her with her best friend.
The trio had grown up together but the dynamics of their friend group had changed just a few years ago. But they were still seen together all the time.
However the trio was separated now that they had different workplaces, Yoon Wool alone while the two worked together. They both worked at one of the most prestigious hospitals of the country.
She was supposed to be the one working there with her impressive credentials. However she had given her place to her best friend who she knew couldn't get in anywhere else with barely passing her classes.
Thinking about it now her boyfriend must have used his connection to let his lover get this residency because there was no way someone with her grades got lucky.
The nurse had one of the purest soul, always helping lost children or elders. Or welcoming everyone with a huge smile even when she was having the worst day.
That unfortunately was also the downside of her personality always seeing the good in people and being completely blind to their betrayal.
So it was with good reason that the older man was feeling incredibly aggravated with the fact that they would treat his dear niece this way. " As good as a day working in a clinic with primarily elder clients could be. " She smiled making sure no one was looking to hug him tightly feeling safe.
He was her second grandfather so to speak, especially with how often she visited him when she was younger. And though everyone could see how competent she is she isn't too keen on having people find out she's related to the owner.
" Are you really badmouthing our clients, and here I was thinking of naming you employee of the month ! " He teased. Because as she said really, dealing with elders was, put nicely extremely tiring.
Between the older men with wandering hands and elder ladies trying to set up anyone with their children. Most of the young employees job at the clinic was actually politely refusing whatever they were offering and then redirecting them towards the exam room.
" Darling are you still seeing that good for nothing ? " He not so carefully breached the subject, after hearing two ladies earlier talking about " her unfortunate fate. "
He finally decided today he would put this relationship to an end, even if he had to put his last remaining hair on the line. " Pap, I already told you his name is Jae Sung and he's not a good for nothing he works at one of the biggest hospitals of the country. "
The woman's lips pursed into a pout, yes this was why he could never get to telling her. Just a look at that pout and he couldn't talk about anything else, but not today !
" I will call him however the hell I want especially with how he treats you, he has no respect for you ! Just because you're childhood friends, doesn't; mean he gets; to thrust you around; like you're his plaything ! "
His last sentence came out in several gasp, his light annoyance finally exploding into full blown anger when he remembered all the time that scoundrel forgot her birthday or her entirely.
" Pap, it's just hard for him because he works at the hospital. " She set her hands on his shoulder and tried to calm him down not wanting his pressure to get too high. " And that's his best excuse, you're busier than him at the clinic yet you use every little break to send him messages that go unanswered ! " He shouted now thoroughly scolding her.
She just smiled and tried to calm him down but deep down she was listening and taking note of everything he was saying. It's true that as the years wore on she noticed more often that his way of treating her wasn't the way one should treat their girlfriend.
Hell he even treated Jeong Eun their other female friend better than her. Maybe he had gotten used to treating her like a pal and couldn't change. Was the excuse she had been giving herself but even that didn't make sense since he could do it for Jeong Eun.
Maybe he just never liked you ! The deep dark voice in her mind whispered. But she shook her head refusing to think he would date her just to mess with her. They had grown up together she knows him better than that.
" Pap, don't worry I'll be fine I'm not a little girl anymore okay ? " The man gritted his teeth obviously wanting to say something else but deciding that this was the furthest he would be able to get today.
" Fine but if I find out that he hurt my baby again he will answer to me. Your grandfather can have what's left of him when I'm done. " He grumbled but hugged her again, she laughed not realizing how serious the older man was being with her face hidden in his neck.

She picked up her bag by the desk not changing out of her blue scrubs to run trying to catch the subway. Jae Sung had just sent her an address where him and Jeong Eun were already waiting.
She stopped for a moment to catch her breath coming out in gasp. She had ran while taking the quickest way to get here but was still 30 minutes late. Finally standing up straight she immediately spotted her boyfriend and best friend sitting together at a table through the glass window.
As she stood outside the restaurant, hidden in the shadows, her heart pounded in her chest, a mixture of dread and disbelief swirling inside her. Through the window, she could see them sitting close together, their faces illuminated by the soft glow of candlelight.
Her boyfriend's hand reached across the table, touching her best friend's hand in a way that sent a shiver down her spine. Their laughter echoed faintly through the glass, a sound that once brought her joy but now felt like a betrayal.
She watched as they leaned in closer, their lips meeting in a tender embrace. It was a scene she never imagined she would witness, a scene that shattered the illusion of trust and love she had built with them.
The woman froze, standing outside for a few seconds. Knowing she needed to do something but not wanting to address it the multitude of emotions swirling inside her in the middle of the road.
She finally entered the restaurant, the hostess leading her to their table where they finally had to look away from each other to look at her. " You're late ! " Her boyfriend greeted her with, not hello love or how are you ?
Maybe it was the fact that her gradfather had just scolded her about him or what she saw the two exchange from outside her mood immediately soured.
" It's not like you guys went hungry waiting for me. " She motioned towards where their plates were clean of food already, even their drinks empty.
" Whatever, we're done eating so go fetch our leftovers. " He waved her away not even sparing her another glance she was finally about to say something when one of the servers called her over.
Neither of the two noticed the both of them on their phone. She wearily approached the woman who pulled her aside in a dark corner next to the employee break room.
" Look I don't care if he's rich or if you owe him something but these two are both complete jerks ! They were talking about how they hoped you catch something in the shitty clinic you work at so you would finally disappear out of their sight ! "
The woman roared, now the second person today to get mad on her behalf. And that was the last straw, she was okay being mistreated or even ignored.
But they were wishing for her death on top of cheating on her ? What had she ever done to get them to hate her this much ? Her mind raced with questions, with doubts, with the pain of realization. How long had they been hiding this from her? How could they betray her like this? Was their love ever real, or was it all just a facade?
The weight of their betrayal pressed down on her, threatening to suffocate her with its crushing force. " Thank you, I'm going to put an end to this tonight. " Her determination didn't falter but was even reinforced when she noticed their table was empty. They had once again left without her.
She felt like years worth of words were forming to spill over from her lips. It seems she may not have realized but she had also been waiting for this moment.
All those thoughts became useless however. She didn't feel the way the air around them was charged with something powerful, almost foreign. And by the time she finally caught up and was about to call out to the both of them a bright white light transfigured the three of them.
The woman looked around the large room the three of them now stood in. The walls were painted in white, not a single blemish could be found except for the delicate golden strands drawn in various patterns which was probably a language.
The roof was tall and rounded with silk folded in pleats in various colours as decoration. So tall it wascompletely out of reach, making her wonder how they were able to get them on there.
Weird balls of light floated around their light bathing the room in a soft white light. The woman finally turned towards where the cheating couple was already staring at.
A crowd of men in purple robes with hoods almost seemed to shelter the man who was adorned with a square type of hat and a velvet robe who stood behind them.
The crowd stared at the three in wonder and barely concealed excitement. " You are the saintess and the heroes sent to save our world ! "
The man who wore the square hat suddenly spoke, the crowd of men in robes spreading apart easily to let him pass through. " Where are we and who are you ? " Jae Sung asked taking the lead as always. The woman realized their talk had been cut short because of the situation they were now in and gritted her teeth in annoyance.
" The goddess sent a prophecy that heroes from another dimension would come to save our world ! " The two immediately perked up at the prospect of being the chosen ones. However Yoon Wool felt that something about this situation was strange.
" Now let us quickly examine you so that we can better prepare your equipment ! " The man clapped, one of the hooded men taking the signal to hand Jeong Eun a glowing red ball. " This will tell us what powers the goddess Yrusalia has bestowed upon you ! " The crowned man explained to which they nodded.
Yoon Wool gasped at how quickly they were accepting the situation without even asking more questions. God how could she had grown up and expected anything from those two fools.
A bright white light shone from the ball before dying down. " You must be the saintess which was prophesied to clean our world of miasma ! " The man exclaimed before explaining that her powers were related to light magic.
Which was what they needed to get rid of the corrupted mana which had turned into miasma and was corrupting their world. One of the hooded man bowed his head to rest his forehead onto Jeong Eun's hands. A surprised laugh escaped Yoon Wool when Jae Sung immediately pushed him away.
The men finally tested Jae Sung to see he had been bestowed various blessings related to swordsmanship. They all celebrated, the square hat man once again saying something which now gave her the certainty that he was lying.
Yoon Wool didn't know what he was lying about yet but she wouldn't trust him with her life. He was hiding something huge from the way he evaded any type of concrete information.
" It's now time to test the third hero the goddess bestowed upon this land ! " The crowd all turned towards her as the hooded man who was seemingly in charge of the red orb approached her.
She didn't trust them but wouldn't hide the fact that she was curious as to what powers she was granted.
A fantasy world where they were granted superhuman powers, maybe this was the universe's way of helping her restart her life. Everyone waited with anticipation as the red ball glowed before finally dimming completely. The hooded man stepped away from her to whisper something into the square hat man's ear.
The man's face completely changed from it's earlier cheerfulness, he now looked at her with contempt. Finally showing his true colors but why now? " It looks like a useless one weaseled her way here. It seems that even gods aren't omnipotent and can make mistakes. "
Jae Sung and Jeong Eun chuckled at the man's words obviously not defending her. " What useless powers, size manipulation and terrarium creation ? A terrarium must be something completely useless. " Yoon Wool frowned that didn't sound like a useless power.
While it's true that when looking at the two's powers which seemed geared towards what this kingdom needed she could seem useless. However completely writing her off as useless seemed a bit exaggerated but the man and the crowd had already turned away from her.
" Well let's not dwell on the useless things. Let us give you names which reflects your power and dignity ! The saintess shall be named Arismahia as she will bring light forth into this world. And the hero who will kill all of the ferocious beast in our way will be called Domiean ! "
The crowd clapped and the two looked the happiest they've ever been while being nothing short of worshipped. " My king what shall we do with her ? " The crowd once again turned towards Yoon Wool who froze not liking the look in the man's eyes. " Just get rid of her in a way she will never appear before us again. "
The man who had asked the question bowed his head obviously understanding the meaning behind the man's words.
Turning towards her, he lifted his hand which had a tatoo on the palm which almost reminded her of henna, casting some kind of spell, she shouted towards the two not in hopes that they would save her she wasn't that stupid.
But she at least wanted to get all that she had to say off her chest if she was to never see him again. She was forced to close her eyes when she was once again transfigured by a bright light.
