One Hell Of A Cliche'

My body felt heavy, and the air was hot and crowded. When I opened my eyes, I saw something painted on the wide ceiling.

I sat up and looked around me and I was met with by people I don't recognize. They wore medieval clothing; rags and whatnot. And in front of me, the couple I would assume as the King and Queen. They looked a bit old.

"Behold, Our Saviour!"

The King raised his hands and the whole room cheered.

"Dear Hero, we urge you to defeat the Demon Lord and turn the tides of war to save humanity from extinction."

Hero? Demon Lord?

I see.  It's one of those dreams. I guess it would be weird if I didn't have one of these since I watch so much anime. Wait a minute, what's anime?

Come to think of it, I don't remember anything else either, nothing but scraps of information. Only thing I can remember clearly is my name, Rev. Is that really my name? It sounds a bit weird and short.

"There isn't much time before their next attack, even if abrupt, I would like you to get registered at the Guild immediately and set out as soon as possible. Now Go Hero!"

I haven't said a word and I'm already getting pushed around. Oh well, I don't know much yet so might as well get dragged along.

"I shall have Knight Veronica, one of my strongest and trusted warriors I know of to come with you. I entrust her explaining the plan to you."

A woman steps forward, her light crimson her swaying sideways as she emerged from the crown of Knights. Her armor a beautiful mix of Gold and Silver. She held her helmet and knelt in front of me.

"Our Hero, I shall be in your care"

She declared with a dignified yet submissive voice.

I followed her and she led me outside of the castle and into the town. Townsfolk kept glancing at me, like I was some sort of rare animal. It made me feel uneasy.

Stolen story; please report.

We got to the guild which was surprisingly empty except for a woman behind the counter. The space was large, tables and stools and even the floor was made out of wood. The air had a lingering smell of alcohol. This must also serve as one of the taverns.

The Veronica lady spoke with the woman behind the counter, they seemed to already know each other.  The woman gasped and then nodded. Veronica motioned for me to come closer.

I did and I was introduced to the guild's manager, Yana. She had short auburn hair and kept darting her eyes back and forth; skillfully avoiding eye contact.

After getting acquainted I was led deeper into the guild and into a room where the scent of alcohol had disappeared and a nostalgic smell of old wood replaced it.

In the room, it felt like I was going to get my fortune predicted. There was a magic ball in the middle of a round table and what looked like a bed in the back. Veronica told me to sit down and so I did.

Yana who sat on the other side of the table, took my hands and put them on top of the crystal ball. She chanted what I assume to be a spell in a low almost inaudible voice making the ball glow a bit bright. I couldn't make out a word she said.

Slowly, something started to form inside the ball. Yana was strangely interested in it as was Veronica. The two of them leaned in closer to see what appeared.

"Eh?"

Eh.

They both said in unified confusion.

"Umm, Lord Hero, you're uhh. Level... 1" Yanna said.

What?

"Impossible, redo the thing, Yana." Victoria said commandingly

So this world has a leveling system

"I cannot, at least not for another day" Yana replied. "And the Inspect skill is never wrong"

"Indeed"

Victoria agreed with her anyway. I'm having second thoughts about this idea.

"Victoria, what level are you?"

"Yesterday when I returned for the ceremony I got checked and I was level 324"

Wow. That's high, right?  I mean. Yeah, it should be a high level.

"And what's the highest level ever achieved?"

"I believe it was 700, a legend that was rumored to have died in the last war"

Hmm. Maybe that was the level cap.

"Now, Lord Hero onto the next step."

Lost in my thoughts, I clumsily followed Yana to the far end of the room. She asked me to lie flat on my back.

"Now please close your eyes"

I felt my shirt being pulled upwards. Wait!

I grabbed her hand

"Aren't we skipping a few steps there?"

She suddenly apologized. "I ask for your forgiveness but usually my assistant does the men and I do the women but he is unavailable right now so. "

"I get it."

I lied back down, a bit embarrassed at my outburst. I pulled up my shirt in my own accord and closed my eyes.

"Now, excuse me."

She put her finger on the left side of my chest. After hearing her mumbles again,  my chest felt hot. It was like that for a second and then suddenly it was over.

I sat up and watched Yana and Victoria discuss something. Yana shook her head again while Victoria scratched hers.

"Why? What's  the problem? "

Yana handed me the paper and I looked at it.
