Chapter 1

The scorching heat engulfed Sky as the fire spread. She held her brother’s bloodied body close to her. Death was imminent, yet she looked at peace. She knew that if she had run when the fire started, she could’ve escaped, but she didn’t want to. She didn’t want to live in a world that didn’t have have her brother.

“It’s okay Kyle, I’m here. Wait for me okay?”

Her voice was hoarse and low. She was tired, so fucking tired.

She shed tears for the first time in ten years, before flames devoured everything.

——

“My lady! Please hang in there! I- I’ll get a healer right away!”

“No. Kate, that’s an order.”

The lady whispered before she started coughing blood. Her panting and shallow breathing made it clear that she didn’t have much time left to live. She looked at the sobbing maid that followed her by her side for years with a gentle smile, before fixing her gaze on the two infants in her arms.

“I want to see them.” She extended her arms weakly.

The maid swallowed the words she wanted to say. The pleads she wanted to convey for her lady to seek help. However, she knew what having a healer come in would cause. She knew she’d end up losing her new young masters as well.

Kate handed the crying infants over to her lady and tried to muster up a smile.

She wiped her tears quick and asked, “w-what is my lady naming them?”

The lady smiled softly at the twins in her arms. Her violet eyes and silver hair showing no resemblance to her infants’ ice blue eyes and the dark black hair.

The author's tale has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.

“I’ll name the boy Vincent, and the girl Valerie. My beautiful babies. I’m so sorry I won’t be here for you anymore.”

She choked on the words as tears fell. Kate sensed her lady’s energy draining, and hurriedly carried the infants away.

“I promise you my lady, I’ll protect them with my life.” Vowed Kate while watching her master breathe her last breath.

——

Bright lights assaulted Sky’s vision as she opened her eyes. A luxurious high ceiling greeted her reminding her of the Victorian era. It took a second for everything to hit her before her instincts kicked in and she tried to stand, but she realized she couldn’t.

‘What the hell is this place? Didn’t I die?’

Memories came back to her.

The fire.

Her brother’s death.

Another hazy memory came back to her as well. A memory of a beautiful woman looking down at her and smiling with tears in her eyes.

‘Was that an angel?’ She thought.

The irony of her calling the Demon King’s daughter an angel was lost on her.

It took Sky a second too long to realize her inability to talk or move. That, along with her giant surroundings, left her with a theory that was too shocking to admit.

‘Wa-was i reincarnated? What about Kyle?’

The moment she thought of her younger twin, a sharp pain spread through her head. She felt a pull at her mind and an excruciating pain accompanying it.

The pain stopped all of a sudden, as if something just clicked. She felt connected to something.

‘…sister?’

Her brother’s voice rang out in her head. She couldn’t believe what was happening.

‘Kyle! How can you hear me..’

‘If I had to guess, I’d say telepathy.’

‘So we reincarnated together… that’s so cool!’

Excitement filled Sky. One minute she was burning in flames holding her dead brother’s body, and the next she’s reborn along with her brother. How could she not be excited?

‘Transmigrated actually. Judging by the furniture style and the fact telepathy is possible, this isn’t our world.’

‘Yeah yeah, does it really matter? Where are you? Can you also see a dragon craving on the ceiling?’

There was no response.

The silence had Sky panicking.

‘Kyle? Are you there? Are you okay?’

‘I-I’m fine… I think I just shat myself.’ Kyle replied in shock and disbelief.

Sky paused, before she bursted out laughing. Although the noise she made would in no way indicate it was laughter.

‘You’re an infant too, you know. This’ll happen to you too.’ He said bitterly. It effectively caused Sky to become quiet.

‘Fuck, you’re right.’
