[Log 2]Chapter 19: Training and Secrets

"Ryomi! Faster! You're so slow!"

"I'll be right with you!"

It's been a week since I was adopted by the Harland family... Toni Harland was the captain of the kingdom's knights and Emily Harland was the kingdom's royal mage. It's quite amazing this two... But because they still didn't have any offspring even after 5 years of marriage they were losing hope, until the day I came to their lives... They treated me as their daughter, given me clothes, food, shelter, and a family... In fact, My name was also changed... to Ryomi Harland (Shikigami Ryo to Ryomi, get it?) they still kept the essence of my past name and given me a feminine name in its place.

Now everyone in this town, didn't know that I was an Ylka... Ylka Race are persecuted by the Human Kingdom for they might once again bring upon destruction to the world, or so they say... The Ylka's persecuted and brought to be a slave, both for manual labor and sexual interest, I'm quite lucky these two went to my rescue and was able to prevent me from being a slave.

At this very moment, have been playing with a friend in town... It's not that I'm slow, I just didn't want to run... We are going back to the church as we still have errands to do... Mother, Emily, made me a hat that'd cover the entire part of my hair, with this I kind of had a boyish look paired with a longsleeve shirt and a short pants...

"Father! We're here!"

"Ah! Ryomi and Shim everyone is already in the garden..."

"Yes!"

"Yes!"

Led by the priest, I went towards the garden with Shim... There were a lot of other kids that I'm acquainted with but not to the point that I can talk to them with ease... They already started weeding out the grass and so we started as well...

This was one of the errands, once a week all the children are given the chance to make some extra money by the church by weeding out the garden... It's tedious work but they pay quite nicely so everyone puts their back into it and kept doing it...

They pay 5 copper coins per bag of weeded grass, in this world money is regarded into 5 types... Copper, Bronze, Silver, Gold, White Gold...

With 5 copper coins I can already buy daily necessities though only for a day... Mother and Father are back in the kingdom working and were giving me enough for daily expense but I didn't want to rely on them too much and worked for my own...

When the two of them comes back, I am thought of magic and swordsmanship and somehow have learned the skills they've been teaching me...

"Hmm..."

"What is it Ryomi?"

"I wanted to try something out..."

[Wind Cutter]

I weeded the grass with ease and started to put them in the bag and then the others were shouting "Cheat! Cheat! Cheat!" So did Shim... I rebuked them with "As long as the job is done the procedure doesn't matter" and stuck my tongue out.

In the end I got 6 bags full of weeded grass... and thus ending the day I got 30 copper coins...

"Stop cheating every time, Ryomi!"

"I'm not cheating I'm just putting my skills to use..."

"That's what you always say..."

Shim is a girl that's boyish enough to be called a boy... She's quite cute... I wonder why she's always with me when she got other friends unlike me who has none but her... Maybe it's pity... Since I didn't have anyone beside me during weekdays she always come looking for me in the house and asked if I wanted to play... I kept on reading the books inside the house and got [Memorization] skill in return... Seriously, even just by reading the book once I have been able to know what exact page the phrase was... But since the skill level was still far too low I still forget some after sometime...

I guess that skill also helped me in terms of combat practice by looking at how father's movements were I memorized his movement patterns and was able to copy it to an extent thus me learning swordsmanship up to level 3... With mother it's quite hard... Since there are no other way than feeling the flow of mana from the body then changing it's attribute to the said magic... It took me quite a while to learn [Mana Manipulation] and [Magic Perception] but with it still being low in level I'm quite bummed since it's still quite hard to manipulate it.

With [Wind Cutter], it's quite easy since it requires a little bit of mana and if you concentrate that mana you'll be able to cut even a cemented rock... But with my skill I still couldn't cut iron...

"I'm training again today! Wanna come?"

"Sure!"

Shim agrees to come with me and train... I'm teaching her what mother taught me... Recently calling Emily, Mother, is already become a habit and so is Father, Toni, it's quite funny... I didn't even know this people just a week ago...

"You ready?"

"Yeah!"

As of late, Shim was able to use lower flame-class magic [Flamepea] little ball of flames with the size of peas, it's not a harmful magic but could still burn a building made of wood if left alone... We made our way away from town because it happened ounce and we were scolded harshly... and my parents had to pay for the damages...

The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

[Flamepea]

[Wind Wall]

High-speed flaming pea sized fireballs came at me but once it hit the wall of wind it vanished without a trace...

"As expected!"

"Not really! If it had been a bit more faster and bigger [Wind Wall] wouldn't have defended it."

"But still you defended on my high-speed fireballs..."

"I'll teach you how to make a true fireball now! So we can move on to the next phase but don't overexert yourself okay?"

"I'll be fine! Teach me! Teach me!"

"Like what you did in the pea sized fireballs only give it more mana... Imagine it's size getting bigger but still incorporate the speed you once used... Chant the spell I thought you as well..."

"Okay... I'll try..."

I'm actually teaching her how to use magic chantlessly as well... It's quite hard actually as I myself still hadn't got that kind of skill yet... Mother taught me this technique since it was quite hard back in her day, so she taught up her own way to do things and ended up teaching it to me the easy way...

"I... I think I got it..."

She was still chanting... Incomprehensible words were slipping out of her mouth as sparks appeared in her hand... Mother said that it was the first civilization's mother tongue, the words that needed to be chanted so that the spell would work... I wonder if it's some kind of system...

"Here I go! [Fireball]"

"Whoa! [Wind Wall!]

Her hand still pointed towards me, she threw the fireball at my direction, that made me panic and used [Wind Wall] almost immediately cutting the skill's chant to a quarter...

>[Chant Omission Skill Acquired]

I thought [Wind Wall] could take it but it broke at the last second and hit my head...

"Kyaa!"

"Ryomi!"

The half of my hat was burned by Shim's fireball. Oh no! She's going to see my hair!

"Stay away!"

"B, But!"

"I'm fine... You can go ahead... I can go back home myself..."

"But Ryomi!"

"I said to go back to town didn't I?"

Shim shuddered at the sound of my voice, I could hear her sniffle quietly as she ran back to town... I'm sorry, Shim... But there are some things that I can't let you see...

I walked back to the house using the secret passageway my mother and father told me... So I got inside the town without anyone noticing me...

I took another hat and put my hair inside chocking it in without letting even a single strand of hair out... It's tedious work but needed to be done to keep my life in this town...

"I need to apologize to Shim..."

Knock! Knock! Knock!

After I heard knocking I headed towards the door and asked who it was.

"It's me... Ryomi..."

"Shim!"

I opened the door and saw Shim with reddened, bloodshot eyes... Ah! I made her cry didn't I...

"Shim, I..."

"I'm sorry, Ryomi! Please don't hate me!"

"Look, Shim it should be me who..."

"I didn't mean to target you! I'm really sorry! Please don't hate me!"

"Will you please let me finish!"

"Urk..."

Shim had a surprised yet scared expression... She looked like she would cry if I held my hand up high...

"Shim... I'm sorry, I didn't mean to shout at you earlier... I just didn't want you to worry too much..."

"Really? Then... You're not angry at me blasting you with [Fireball]"

"Of course, I'm angry but not to the extent of hating you for it... I'm not that cheap to hold a grudge with a measly thing, and besides you only grazed me... So it's all under the bridge."

Shim hugs me after I said that... She buried her face in my chest then she said something like "Why do you have this bulges, when I don't have one..." even if you ask me I don't know the answer to your question, so I just caressed her head as I hugged her back saying "It'll grow big soon enough for you as well, just give it time..." She retorted back with "We are both of the same age!".

After that, I went to buy ingredients for supper... Since mother and father won't be back until weekends, I don't need to prepare that much and so with Shim in tow we walked towards the town's market and bought ingredients, thus ending the day with me saying "Thanks for the food" on the evening meal.
