Chapter 0 – Prologue
Waaah! Waaaaah!
The cries of a newborn barely making enough noise to be heard over the downpour outside.
“What is… Oh? Hey little guy.” A young woman opens the door, looking around a bit before sighing and taking him inside.
Though as she does so, her eye catches a small tag inside the cushioned baby stroller.
“Newt, huh?”
----------------------------------------
A teenager sits down in their room, looking at a list of optional subjects to take for the latter half of high school.
‘Profitable life with comfortability but a dislike of the job itself, or lesser pay but a job I enjoy…’
As the thought passes within his mind his bedroom door bursts open with a kick.
“HEY NEWT! WHATCHA DOIN?” His sibling bursts through the door.
“Dear lord Eris, why the hell did you kick the door open?! You broke one of the hinges!” The boy, Newt, gestures at the hinge with the upper half of the hinge half bent outwards.
“No proof, nobody will believe you.” Eris immediately defends herself, which irritates Newt at the pointless evidence, quietly whispering to himself.
“Eris really needs to stop talking to Jared about his work.”
Clearing his throat, he speaks up, “Other than the fact that I wouldn’t ever do that, shouting out my name after the loud bang noise and the fact this isn’t a court case requiring hard evidence. Mum believes my word more than you.” He replies with a smug look.
Logically Devastated, Eris tries to change the subject as quickly as possible.
“S-so, what were you doing before… Nothing happened.”
“Before you partially broke the door? Just looking over the subjects given for us to select.” Newt pulls out the sheet he hid on instinct.
“Ooo, whatcha gonna pick?” Eris casually asks, lying down on his bed.
“Still deciding.”
“What’s there to think about, just choose what ya think you’ll like.”
“It’s not that…Simple?”
‘Why overthink it, might as well choose something I will enjoy.”
Taking the sheet back from Eris, against her annoyance, he checks the box next to ‘Programming’ before confidently showing his choice off to her.
She takes a quick look, stares back at him and shouts, “NERD!”, promptly running out the door slamming it shut.
‘My wrath will be slow, it will be quiet, however once it has come, you will beg for mercy.’
He dramatically thinks, scheming up a revenge plan.
----------------------------------------
“What makes you interested in taking this job, and what makes you more qualified to be hired over the other candidates?” The interviewer asks Newt.
‘Besides the fact this is an ENTRY LEVEL job with at least two years of experience required and that literally no one can achieve?’
“Although I don’t meet all the requirements, specifically the two years of work experience, I am eager and determined to prove myself just as valuable!”
----------------------------------------
“Hey Eris, guess who got hired?” Newt smugly informs his sister.
“Y-you, you’re lying…” Eris nervously responds.
“Does it sound like I’m lying~” He cheerfully denies before delivering the final move.
“Pay up.”
“C-can I pay up after I get my first pay check?”
“Hell no, you haven’t even gotten a job and you’re asking me to wait till your first pay check? Pay up. Now.”
“Funny thing about that… I don’t have any money.” Eris informs Newt.
This is one of the few things that pisses him off greatly, what kind of person bets money they don’t have?!
“Fine, I’ll wait till you get paid, but the amount increases for every week after you get a job.”

“Whaaat, nooooo.”
“Karma.”
The call ends and he begins heading home, chuckling at the photo sent by Eris shortly afterwards.
----------------------------------------
“You’re going to the doctors whether I drag you in by your neck! Or on your own two legs! You’ve been working without holidays for how long?! You have enough to get a checkup occasionally.” Newt’s Mum complains.
Of course, this wasn’t Newt’s biological mother, but the person who raised him and Eris at the Orphanage.
“Alright, alright, I’ll get a quick checkup.”
“And a blood test!”
“…And a blood test…” Newt hated the idea of needles, he was never bothered by blood or cuts but needles made him incredibly uncomfortable.
However, for his mother, he would gladly go out of his comfort zone, especially if it was for his own good.

“Finally, found you…” A man sighs tiredly as he books an emergency meeting with his boss.
----------------------------------------
A figure walks through the office-space of a prominent software development company, arriving at a small eating area for employees. Scanning through the people he sees his target.
“Newton, can you come with me I need to talk to you.”
The man says, knowing it’s not a question he can decline, Newt follows the man to his personal office.
“Newton, I’ve been getting complaints from your coworkers, who wish to remain anonymous, who have said that you have been working on something unrelated to work on company time.
Not to mention others also feeling uncomfortable around you, especially after what happened a couple weeks ago.”
Newt, knowing where this was going tries to stop the inevitable.
“I understand, I’ll try to interact and be more friendly with the others, they already know the circumstances behind why I got angry.” Newt said with as a sad smile bloomed as he watched his boss.
A sigh echoed throughout the room.
“Newton, I’m letting you go. This is your 2-week notice, please pack your belongings and leave within the given time.”
Newt got up, nodded and left.
He was disappointed, he really tried to make up with the employees he had erupted onto.
After years of constantly rectifying mistakes made by others and telling them how to improve, nothing changed, anger grew day by day, but he kept it buried deep down.
Until a certain day, stubbed his toe on the apartment door, got robbed, and then later that day his cohorts decided to massively fuck up on a big project, and who do they come to help, HIM, and who’s fault is it if the project didn’t ready on time or fails, HIM.
Thus, what followed was a lot of yelling, crying, and a multi week suspension, until it was suddenly cancelled halfway through as the efficiency of work plummeted and projects started crashing left and right.
While they did get a whole lot more employees, or more accurately, reliable employees, Newt still didn’t think that if he was fired, that they could keep the same or more of the current efficiency rating.
Though why should he care? It’s not his problem anymore.
Walking out of the building with the few belongings he had, Newt decided to walk back to his apartment rather than take the bus.
Checking the time on his phone, he sees it’s 3:45 pm, before he sadly got a call from the one person he didn’t want to talk to, Eris.
“Hey Newt Newton-Pffftt” she breaks into loud laughing, Newt counters.
“Hey Granny generic as fuck Smith.”
Newt being annoyed as she hadn’t stopped finding it funny, though it had been years since the randomly assigned surnames were given.
Once Eris and Newt had spent a long time at the Orphanage and hadn’t been adopted, it was eventually decided they would be given a last name of their choice by their Mum as the likelihood of them getting adopted got progressively less and less. This was, to put it lightly, a terrible choice by their Mum, as these two children were making a big choice at an incredibly young age. Luckily Eris got a normal name, Newt hoped for something similar, and for the most part that was the case. Except for the cosmic coincidence that was getting Newton as his last name, making him 'Newt Newton'. The only thing that makes it even remotely better is that it was the same last name as Isaac Newton.
Suffice to say, he was going to change his name the moment he could financially.
On the other hand, is Eris, who was given the most generic surname unintentionally, this wasn’t found out until later when Eris and Newt got more familiar with the internet and pop culture in general.
“Someone’s feisty~”
“We’ll if someone didn’t keep calling me that for every single day for fucking years then maybe I wouldn’t be mad.”
”Pfft, what’s wrong? It’s just your full name, do you not like it? Why don’t you change it then?” Eris taunts, knowing Newt wouldn’t due to having used it for so long.
“You suck.”
“Love you too~”
Eris then remembers, “How was work today, Mr Newton?”.
His annoyance was immediately taken over by immense dread, the same he felt when he saw she was calling.
“F-Fine, same as usual.”
Somehow, he heard Eris smile, through his phone.
Newt flinched.
“Pay up mother fucker.”
Newt internally cried as he transferred $150.
“Why do I even bet with you again?”
“You say that like you have a choice?”
“Whatever, I’m hanging up.”
“Byee~ Thanks for the easy money~!”

Slightly annoyed but amused, he approached the apartment complex he was staying at.
As he walked in, he noticed something odd, there was nobody on the ground floor, reception was empty, and the cameras didn’t have a blinking red light to show they were on.
‘Whatever, I’m being paranoid.’ He convinces himself as he takes the elevator to his floor.
Once again noticing the camera’s seemingly off, ‘Maybe I just didn’t understand how those cameras worked. They’re probably on but not recording or something.’
He never had investigated how they worked or whatnot, I mean, why bother?
Nonetheless, the previous thought bothered him.
‘If they aren’t recording, why?’
As these thoughts surfaced, he slowly began speeding up, hoping to enter his apartment as quickly as possible.
Entering the key into the door, opening the door and entering, everything felt so slow, he could hear heart in his ears, adrenaline pumping vigorously through his veins.
‘Just in case…’ He thought as he moved a small nearby chair Infront of the door, understanding fully well that wouldn’t stop anyone from entering and instead would just slow them down slowly and alert him.
But it wouldn’t matter in the end, right? It was all just paranoia.
Closing the curtains and rests on the couch for a short moment of respite.
He sat there for a few quiet minutes, his body calming down as he chuckles lightly, laughing at how hard he freaked out over a few coincidences.
*click, click, click.
A moment and a few clicks of metal tapping against each other.
*click, click.
Newt’s head had slowly turned, as his eyes moved towards the door handle as all of this occurred.
The door was unlocked.
Adrenaline begins rushing his veins again as he jumps up and runs towards the door as quickly as possible, alas, too late as the door swings open revealing a well-built man in a suit with a briefcase opened behind him.
He sees Newt rushing him, the assassin merely raises his eyebrow before using a simple Taekwondo kick, to throw Newt back for a short period as he grabs out a pistol with a silencer, lifts it up slightly and shoots both of Newt’s kneecaps.
*ARGHH!!! AHHHH!
Newt screams out as blood pours out from his wounds, he barely gathers up the will needed to plead, “Please, s-stop, don’t kill- “
*Bang
