After the small drama in the mess hall, the three of us headed to our next class. Coincidentally this was one of two classes I had with all of my friends. Satomi and I exchanged contact info and the three of us even had a good chat about our favorite shows. When I first met Satomi, I had the impression she was a bookworm that was probably too mature for the shows we watch. There were even some things she knew about Erratic Code that even I was shocked about. I'll admit it was still a bit hard to talk to her as the events of two weeks ago still played in my mind every time I noticed she was in a hoverchair.
By the time she'd finished telling us how she got an entire room dedicated to model kits of Erratic Codes mechs, we'd reached our next class. It was a rather large lecture hall that looked a bit like a theater. In the third row from the top Clarke, Andrew, and Minerva were seated there. At first, they were happy to see us as they waved rather excitedly but as they saw Satomi, they were a bit reluctant. The three of us made our way up to their row and they seemed pretty relieved that Satomi was joining us.
"So you finally managed to get over yourself long enough to patch things up," Andrew said. "I wonder if love will blossom next."
Satomi blushed a bit at the implications but I found it rather annoying. Luckily I didn't have to say anything as Minerva pinched Andrew's ear tightly. Ow Ow Ow... Quit it Minerva I didn't mean anything by it!"
"I said I'd allow you to be seated next to me for this class for helping Soran lecher," said Minerva. "Do not spurn my kindness," I swear I'd never seen Andrew go from gloating jerk to puppy dog so fast. It almost made me lose respect for him a little bit.
"Anyway, It's nice that you all could join us," said Clarke. "I'm especially happy that Shiranui-san could join us as well."
Satomi shook her head, "No please you don't have to be so formal. You all can call me Satomi if you wish."
"Very well. Satomi it is." Clarke held out his massive hand to Satomi which she took with a bit of hesitation. This a usual response for someone meeting Clarke. Taking our seats we all waited for our class to begin. Which wouldn't be long considering most of the students in this course came in directly after us. The classroom wasn't as full as the Ghost course or History class but that was usual. This was the Esper course so it was natural that many people weren't in it. To gain Esper's abilities, one had to ingest Ether at a young age. It was pretty much common practice for Humans and Prometheans to do so since we were the most likely to not suffer the effects of rejection. Satomi and Talia were more of the rare cases given how few Tau and Fafnar are Espers. Satomi made more sense as she was half-human herself.
The last two people to enter the classroom were twins. They were Promethean which only the students in this school could ever behold. Promethean twins are extremely rare to the point where they might be the only twins in existence. The first was a young man wearing a black robe with a single blue crescent moon in the center. His blue hair was extremely kempt and he wore a pair of blue glasses. He seemed extremely refined while sufficiently intimidating due to the frown he wore on his face. His sister on the other hand not so much. Her fiery red hair along with the bright white robe with small suns plastered all over it was enough to blind someone with how radiant she was. She came in twirling about and prancing about and even did a couple of cartwheels too. The boys began to fawn over how cute she was and some of them were even looking at her with lecherous eyes. While the girls seem to be frozen in place as they stared in awe at the man.
"Good afternoon class," greeted the woman. "I hope you've been having a super awesome day so far. I hope you're ready because today is about to be fantastical and fun!" Most of the class began to cheer and celebrate over her stellar announcement. That is until her brother slammed his hand against the table. Suddenly the room went silent and no one dared to move or even make a sound.
"Dear Sister," said her Brother. "I'd like to think you didn't forget about the test the students have to take today. Surely the great Solana Crowley wouldn't forget this very important and key detail."
Solana tilted her head and even began knocking on it as if trying to remember something. "Oh wait that is right Lunar. Sorry guys it looks like the excitement could wait till after the test."
A notification appeared in my line of sight. It'd been a file being transmitted directly to my U.A.D. It was a test on the categories of Espers there are. A basic test but knowing Lunar he wasn't going to make it too easy.
The Crowley twins were another part of my weird family. My Aunt and Uncle always helped me out when it came to mastering my ability. Though Lunar still doesn't know why my powers react the way they do. The power of an Esper can be easily controlled especially when you have someone to teach you. For my power to respond as it does, it frustrated him. But there'd be more time to think of this later. For now, there was a test to take.
The test itself was more of a review, something Lunar probably concocted to keep the information fresh in our heads. It was about the many different types of Espers that could come up in our world. There were the Adepts like me, that could manipulate the elements. Usually, we could only use one. To remember the others I just remembered my friends as they were different than me. Andrew was a Meta, an Esper that can use more physical-based abilities or underwent some physical change.

Then there was Clarke, a Cleric, who could use supporter-type abilities. I stopped for a moment and tried to glance at the others. Since our tests were linked to our U.A.D. so no one could cheat using someone else's test. However Lunar still didn't like it when we got distracted. I noticed many students had already finished including Satomi, Clarke, and Minerva. Both Talia and Andrew seemed to be struggling somewhat which was par for the course. Despite being an Esper, Talia never used her abilities too much. She was an Armorer, who could summon weapons or create armor at a whim. She only used her powers when she was working on Barghest or her project. So I never got to see them in person.
On the other hand, Andrew was just pretending. He wanted to savor the moment of sitting next to Minerva as much as he can. "Your test time is nearly over students," Lunar announced. "Be sure you have answered every question." Even though we both were messing around for different reasons. Andrew and I began scribbling down answers as fast as we could. Another cold shower above our heads wasn't worth any more time next to Minerva or having some test insecurities. I never liked being the first to finish a test.
As we finished the notification to turn in our test arrived. Clicking send, the little file uploaded straight to Lunar who sat down and went to grading. During this time I wanted to address my friend's desperation to both him and Minerva but she later had that covered for me. She'd cupped her hands over his cheeks and they'd been staring directly into each other's eyes. But Minerva's eyes changed. Their usual amber color was replaced by a light tinge of violet.
"Abandon your lecherous ways for the day," Minerva said in a soft slowed tone. "Act normally for once." As she let Andrew go he seemed a bit out of it for a few seconds. I guess she must've noticed the same way I did. Being a Psyker, messing with the mind was her specialty.
Andrew shook his head, suddenly regaining his composure. "Ugh... You went there and bewitched me. You could've just asked nicely."
"Ya think you'd stop," Talia chimed in. "Even I wouldn't believe you."
I'm sure Clarke was thinking the same thing but he was nice enough to not say so. Another notification came through and the word "Passed" overtook my vision. It was an easy enough test though Lunar was certainly fast enough to grade them all.
"Alright, Cadets you have your tests," Lunar announced. "As much as I wanted to conduct a lecture on the application of Esper abilities for everyday use, High General Stark's examination takes precedence over everything today."
"Aww... It's too bad we couldn't have fun today in class," whined Solana. "Oh well, good luck with your exam today!"
That's right, That was the next class for today. I started to wonder if there could've been a possibility that I could get in trouble again and be excused from that class. As the thought crossed my mind, I could feel something tug tightly on my jacket. It was coming from Talia's direction so when I turned I was surprised to find Satomi there. I guess they'd switched spots at some point in the past few minutes. Satomi herself looked a bit uncomfortable and at first, I couldn't discern why. But then I remembered my reasons for wanting to skip class. There was no way I could do so now.
We all left the class as a group. Andrew, Talia, and Clarke walked ahead of us while Minerva and Satomi stayed with me. The entire time Satomi held onto my jacket. Even though I could distract myself by listening to Talia pick on Andrew about his habit of hitting on girls, as I walked I felt like I was trudging along a murky swamp.
As we entered the main atrium we'd seen a lot of students heading in the same direction. The east corridor led to the arena. "Dear cousin, I should probably warn you of something," said Minerva. "I've heard some disturbing rumors regarding Butch as the class went on today."
"You heard them too huh?" Clarke chimed in. As our group became a small circle I noticed everyone but myself was on the same page. They all seemed to look at Andrew too who seemed to be a bit annoyed that he was put in the spotlight.
"You guys suck... you know that" grimaced Andrew. "I heard you got into a fight with Butch this morning Soran."
I nodded though I didn't see why that was such an issue. "Did he seem different to you?" Thinking back on our fight from earlier, there wasn't anything too different. He was being a jerk and we got into a fight. Not much different than our usual interactions.
"I'm just giving you a taste of our bout later."
As I recalled those words I remembered that Uncle Donnell was going to be the one to decide who we fought today. He said that before Uncle even showed up. I didn't want to think that he'd be smart enough to plan this. Then there was the fact he was a bit more aggressive than usual. It was probably best if I remained ignorant. At least until I could see it for myself. "N-No. I didn't notice anything. He was the usual amount of asshole." My response worried everyone or so I'd like to think. The guys didn't seem too convinced.
"Well, apparently he disappeared for three days last week," continued Andrew. "He suddenly came back but something was different about him. Not even his cronies know what."
Even though he was finished speaking. I knew Andrew was wanting me to be careful. Our group continued onward and despite the danger, I was probably going to be I had to be sure of this supposed change.
On our way to the arena, I spotted two girls I'd never seen before. They must've been those transfer students I heard so much about. They weren't too far in front of us to where we couldn't see each other if they looked back but it was strange I was able to pick them out so easily. One of the girls had frost-white hair like me. I couldn't see her face since she was facing forward. The other was a bit shorter than her companion. Her hair was tied up to be able to wear the Military cap she'd been holding. Her dark blue hair made her seem like she was a Promethean but she had round ears like a human, features of a hybrid like me. I guess Minerva caught me staring as I felt a slight tug on my ear.
"Don't catch the lecher's disease dear cousin," she whispered.
"I promise I'm not. I don't even know who they are."
I guess we weren't whispering well enough as the second girl turned back to face us. As our eyes met I noticed something horrifyingly familiar. Grey eyes, the same as Alara from my nightmares. She began to mouth a sentence. Something I couldn't make out over all the murmuring among the other students. She then smiled and continued on her way. Nothing could've prepared me for the way my day was going to go after I understood what she said.
"It's not our time to meet yet. Be patient."
