Hey, name’s Mitsuki Asuka, Mitsuki is written with the kanji for “full” and “moon”, and Asuka’s written with “fly” and “bird”. Yeah, full moon’s flying bird, quite cute, right? Well, don’t get wrong impression. I’m a dude. Well, a boy, not a man in legal age yet.
I’m 15 this year, and right now, I’m looking outside to the sea as the boat that I’m taking is leading me to my new, and old, home, Takashima Machi, down in the Nagasaki peninsula. I’m gonna live near my grandparents, in my childhood home, where I lived before I learned magic.
Sorry, I’m jumping the gun here. As any story, mine starts with my mom, Mitsuki Haruka. You see, my mom was a cute, ambitious girl that was born here, in Takashima Machi. She was smart, had excellent grades, and when she completed high school, she moved to Tokyo, finding a job and going to college.
There, she met my father, completed college… and divorced after I was born, because my father left her because of me. She landed a nice job, faithfully raising me in Tokyo, I had good memories from my childhood. We came back to Takashima when I was like, three years old, where I grew up until I was around 9.
But then, she met my NEW father when she went in a trip to Kyoto. Jonathan Evergreen, fairly rich CEO from some American company. They met, fell in love at first sight and got married. I never had a problem with him, since seeing mom happy and relaxing after always seeing her tired from working was a blessing.
And now that I take a look back, he was smart, pampering me and treating me like his own son. After all, I have no problem calling him dad, and would rather do that than my own father. He took us in, and we moved with him to the United States, and I had to say goodbye to my childhood friends.
It was a bit sad, but my new life and older sister were cool. New school, learned English fluently, made new friends, etc. It was around this time, when I was ten years old, that I learned magic. Or more accurately, I survived a magical accident.
It was a lonely night in our vacation home in Germany. We were living next to this forest in the winter, Alex, my new older sister, went out with our parents, and I, who wasn’t feeling so good, stayed at home.
I was playing some games, as you do like the average teenager, until I had a strange sensation. I felt ill, different from everything that I had felt until that moment. It was if something was calling me, pulling me somewhere. So, against my better judgement, I put on some winter clothes and went out in the forest, trudging through the snow.
I walked among the tall trees in the dark, with a direction dead set in my mind, my head muddled and charmed, now that I look back at it. I found a castle, with several other people like me, charmed and attracted here. At the time, I just assumed it was four people around a glowing well.
But now, I see that I’m extremely lucky. Those people around the pit that was glowing purple with magical energy charmed several people, and attracted here to be sacrificed for their ritual, including me. I don’t remember very well what happened; I remember screaming from the hooded people, an explosion of light and my body burning.
I remember walking back home, taking a painful bath and going to sleep after getting into my pajamas. The next day came, as if nothing happened. I was feeling better, and everything that transpired vanished, as if it was a simple memory… except, that I now had strange memories in my head.
This tale has been pilfered from Royal Road. If found on Amazon, kindly file a report.
Long story short, the failed ritual destroyed the four mages and imbued me with arcane power, as well their memories. All memories, the days spent in libraries, fighting other mages, scamming people with fake potions, etc. They were supposed to strike big with that ritual, but it failed miserably.
The result was that I was bombed with magic, and by sheer luck, I didn’t disintegrate. Later, I would learn that my powers were something that happened to some people around the world, rarely at the same intensity though.
I started messing around with magic, learning from their memories, meeting other mages, learning to make money as a mage and eventually having a solid base as a mage in the modern world. Of course, I kept living my life with my family, being more of a casual mage.
And now, I’m just living my life, I’m going to live in my old home next to my grandparent’s house. I’m going to live alone, since I asked them if I could live alone. And since I’ve had four human brains fused with mine, I’m much more responsible than any child of my age normally would be, so they agreed.
I’m actually excited to go back home, it has been a long time. I have plans for the future too, I want to go to college in Tokyo, and maybe work with my dad. Either that or go independent, go full mage. Oh, I can see the island. I smiled as I breathe in the salty smell of the sea.
Takashima Machi isn’t that big, just a small, isolated island near the Nagasaki peninsula. I look around, there’s only two other people with me in this boat, since tourism isn’t a great thing here. It’s just for transportation.
I take my bag, that is quite flashy. Thanks to the fantasy culture that is quite popular, nobody suspects that this is a variant type of a bag of holding, a type of bag with an extra-dimensional space inside, allowing it to store way more stuff than normal. Of course, since I’m the one attuned to it, I’m the only one that can use it.
I have some cases with my clothes too, since I can’t be too suspicious. the boat arrives at the port, and I get out, thanking the staff as I get out with my bag and my case. I look forward, to a simple paved road leading forward to a farm, and to my right the marine traffic office. I’m getting out of the boat when a car pulls over, a woman letting the window down.
(Shinra): “Asuka-kun, do you need a ride?”
I smile gently to her, bowing lightly.
(Asuka): “I would love that, Nee-san.”
(Shinra): “Alright!” She smiles. “Get in! I’ll take you home!”
I nod, putting my stuff on the backseats and going to the front seat. I look at the woman smiling at me. Healthy, white skin, nice figure that is just the right size and good style, long, straight black hair and light brown eyes, youthful yet mature pretty face. This loveable beauty is a childhood friend of my mother, Tsubaki Shinra.
I’ve known her since I was little, and we visit her every time that mom comes to japan. She also visits us as well from time to time. We’re quite close, after all, she’s like a sister to me.
(Shinra): “So, Asuka-kun, eager to start your school year next week?”
I smile at her.
(Asuka): “Well, I’ll have the best sensei of the world after all.”
(Shinra): “Flattering me won’t get you better grades, Asu-kun.”
I smile as she drives me home. Looking out of the window, I can see the blue waters of the sea, and the rural feeling that this island gives off. Feels good to be home.
(Shinra): “So, how is it? coming back after so long?”
She gives me a look from the corner f her eyes. Oh, I see, she’s worried.
(Asuka): “A bit sad and happy at the same time, I guess.” I sigh. “Leaving my friends sucks but coming back home is nice.”
Sheesh, I sounded sadder than I thought I would. Nee-san looks at me, a bit worried before smiling warmly and patting my head. I freeze, since I’m was not expecting this.
(Shinra): “It’s fine, Asu-kun. I’m here with you, okay? If anything happens, you know where I live. Plus, you also have your grandparents here.”
I smile to her, staring her in the eyes.
(Asuka): “Nee-san?”
(Shinra): “Yes, Asu-kun?”
(Asuka): “Look at the road. There’s a curve.”
She widens her eyes before quickly going back to focus on driving, barely being able to make the turn. I start laughing as she panics with the wheel a little.
(Asuka): “You still suck at driving, don’t you, nee-san?”
(Shinra): “Shut up!” She screams blushing. I just keep laughing as she drives in silence, her face as red as can be. It’s good to be back home.
