When Li Lang regained consciousness from his coma, it was already dusk.
"Passed out again," Li Lang sighed bitterly. He couldn't help but marvel at his luck, managing to survive every time he fainted.
He looked at the decapitated fat zombie lying at his feet and then at his newly grown left hand, feeling perplexed. He vaguely remembered his left hand spraying something before he lost consciousness. Could that liquid be what killed this creature? And how did his left hand grow back? There was also a bright white exoskeleton on the back of his hand, whose purpose he couldn't fathom.
It was then that he realized his zombie body seemed somewhat different from the others. Firstly, while the other zombies appeared to be mindless beasts, he retained his previous willpower. Secondly, while the other zombies seemed to only know how to devour fresh flesh and blood, he also seemed to desire other things, like canned food...
Thinking about it, hunger struck him once again. He couldn't understand why zombies, who moved slowly and had limited physical strength, would need food so desperately.
This awakening seemed to have cleared his mind considerably. He glanced at the corpse of the fat zombie, feeling somewhat disgusted. Reflecting on the fact that he had eaten meat from Mr. Wang's body, Li Lang experienced a strange mix of greed and revulsion. It seemed like there were two conflicting thoughts within him—human and zombie.
He shook his head with a bitter smile, realizing that human thinking still held some sway. Li Lang looked at the supermarket on the side of the street, pushed open the door, and walked inside. The shelves were in disarray, but most of the goods remained. Li Lang opened a few cans of meat, but found that the once delicious food had become difficult to swallow. A part of his zombie self kept reminding him that he should eat raw meat.
Li Lang finally found a refrigerator storing raw meat. However, due to the power outage, the meat had gone bad, crawling with flies and fresh maggots. The feeling of disgust overwhelmed his human side once again.
Filled with anger, he grabbed a kitchen knife and ran onto the street, cutting off several large chunks of meat from the fat zombie's body. He sprinkled some salt on the meat and sat by the roadside, devouring it voraciously.
The other zombies on both sides stared at him, resembling obedient schoolchildren.
As he gnawed on the meat, Li Lang suddenly burst into tears, silently crying while holding the bloody chunks in his hands. The pressures he had endured in recent days seemed to have broken his last psychological defense, finding an outlet for release.
After his parents' death, he forcibly suppressed his tears. But the subsequent experiences of assassination, sentencing, execution, and now turning into a zombie, had buried all the pressures deep within him. Despite the maturity forced upon him by these events, he was still just an eighteen-year-old college student, and his inner vulnerability finally surfaced in front of a group of zombies, while eating human flesh.
After silently sobbing for a while, Li Lang smashed the meat in his hand onto a small zombie that had been staring at him, and shouted with a bitter smile, "What are you looking at?"
"Huh, why do I feel stronger?" Li Lang exclaimed in surprise. He suddenly realized that his strength had basically returned to its original state, and his speed of movement was now comparable to that of a normal person.
He couldn't make sense of this sudden change, but he recalled that this change had actually occurred when he woke up. He just hadn't paid much attention to it...
At that moment, a zombie, seemingly triggered by something, charged towards Li Lang. However, this was an ordinary zombie, unlike the fat zombie he had encountered before. At most, it looked like the old Li Lang.

Li Lang immediately stood up, his left hand protecting his front, while he swung the kitchen knife with his right hand, prepared for any unforeseen circumstances. This zombie must have been extremely hungry and smelled the blood.
The zombie stumbled at its fastest speed towards Li Lang and lunged forward to bite. However, this speed appeared slow in Li Lang's eyes now. Calmly, he placed his left hand on the zombie's shoulder, about to exert force and push it away, when something strange happened.
Li Lang's left hand suddenly split into four segments, each with dozens of sharp teeth. They wrapped around the zombie's shoulder, and instinctively, Li Lang exerted force. With a miserable scream, the zombie's shoulder was torn apart!
This was the ability of the fat zombie, wasn't it? Li Lang was stunned. But despite his surprise, his right hand with the kitchen knife didn't hesitate and swiftly decapitated the zombie.
Li Lang stared at the split teeth in his left hand, momentarily dazed. The thing looked extremely ferocious, with a central bone tube that was exceptionally sharp. When it emerged just now, there seemed to be a subtle surge of power. Li Lang followed that feeling and exerted force once again. With a swish, his left hand returned to its original state. Exerting force again, it immediately transformed into the split teeth shape!
However, this thing seemed to be extremely draining on his stamina. After using it twice, Li Lang felt like half of his strength had been sucked away from his entire body. It seemed there was a price to pay. But he still didn't know the purpose of that bone tube—was it a fork for feeding?
Li Lang sat on a luxury hovercar beside him, lost in thought about what he should do next.
Revenge was definitely a must. Now that he had taken care of Director Wang, Mayor Zhang was still out there, enjoying his freedom. Although the zombie epidemic had spread rapidly, Li Lang knew that, given Mayor Zhang's status and position, it was normal for him to flee with his family and continue his political career. Li Lang had already lost track of him, so it seemed he would have to take it step by step and find a way to infiltrate the human stronghold.
Suddenly, he felt an overwhelming longing for his home, which had already turned into ruins. It was located in the southern part of the city, and due to the incident with the dead, Mayor Zhang and Director Wang had temporarily halted construction, planning to resume once Li Lang had been executed and things calmed down. So, it was still a desolate ruin.
Li Lang decided to go back and have a look, at least to retrieve some mementos of his parents and pay his respects at their gravesite. He had sold everything he could from their home to buy a small plot in the remotest cemetery in the outskirts. After all, it was ingrained in the blood of the Hua clan to honor deceased loved ones.
In the previous street, Li Lang encountered a zombie that was almost the same size as him, but this particular zombie was even more formidable than the others. The bone fragments on its chin were as white as jade, and it had reached the speed of a normal person's jog. Li Lang was chased by it for the entire street until he reached his current position and used his usual move—diving under a car.
However, the jade-like bone fragment zombie couldn't stop in time and continued to charge forward for several meters before coming to a halt.
Just then, a horrifying thing happened. A red rope, as thick as an arm, suddenly extended from the window ahead and wrapped around the jade-like bone fragment zombie, pulling it into the window. From Li Lang's perspective, it seemed like the zombie was being pulled into a large red flower. Then, the blood-red petals of the "flower" suddenly closed shut, and the jade-like bone fragment zombie was crushed without even having a chance to scream!
What followed was the chilling sound of bones being chewed for a long time...
There must be a powerful predator inside. Li Lang had originally planned to bypass this street from the other end, but just as he was about to move, he saw a zombie at the end of the street being dragged in by the red rope. He realized that there wasn't a single zombie left on this stretch of road!
This abnormal phenomenon indicated that all the other zombies had been eaten by this predator!
So now he dared not make a move, fearing that if he crawled out, he would be dragged in as well. However, as time passed, hunger struck again, and he had already finished all the meat he had carried...
Should he starve to death or make a desperate dash to break free? Perhaps he had to wait for the right moment...
Just then, a staggering zombie appeared at the end of the street. It was probably out hunting, unaware that it had become the prey...
The zombie had just taken a few steps forward when a red rope shot out with a "swish" and wrapped around its waist.
Now's the time! Li Lang leaped up and sprinted down the next street while the predator was preoccupied.
