(5) Unexpected Trial Run

As the vaguely humanoid creature forced itself through the ceiling of the Sanguine Saber's base, the two more experienced Slayers were quick to figure that, with the way that it seemed to struggle to pull itself back together once it was through the solid matter it has decided to pass through, this particular Amalgamation wasn't geared towards the subterranean swim it was taking.

But, regardless of that, as soon as what could only be considered its eyes landed on the three people beneath it, it let out a strange mixture of a pained shriek and a hostile cry.

That was a clear and concise indicator for all three of them to back away from the Amalgamation's vicinity as soon as its efforts in getting through the ceiling doubled, with Mira using Malware to drag Oscar along with them.

"So... Uh... Are there always Amalgamations crawling through the ceilings around here...?" Oscar asked.

"Not all the time. It's actually pretty chill around here most of the time!"

"Sometimes they come around by themselves, and other times, they follow after the energy given off by people's Expressions activating..." Mira said, pointing an accusatory gaze at Molly.

"Yeah, or that. Gee, wonder who that was." Molly chuckled quietly.

Not having the energy to deal with her, Mira simply groaned in response, getting Malware to dissipate and letting the unprepared newbie fall to the ground. Meanwhile, the Amalgamation let out another cry as it finally pulled itself free, splatting into a puddle on the floor before pulling itself into an amorphous, vaguely humanoid form.

"Alright, guess it's time for a trial run, newbie..." Mira announced while stretching. "From the way it's barely keeping itself together, this thing's pretty weak, so, perfect opportunity to see what you can do."

"Oh. Uh... Alright, sure!"

While Oscar hoisted himself back onto his feet, another choked cry sounded from the creature, with its form expanding and twisting to make itself larger. With pom-poms in-hand, Molly started waving her arms around enthusiastically, calling, "Give em hell!"

A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

"Right!" As Oscar grounded himself and stared down the creature in front of him, it pushed itself forward, its body moving along as a spear-like bolt. With his focus kept on the Amalgamation, and the attack itself being entirely predictable, he was quick to jump out of the way of it, landing a few meters away from the creature.

Finding its attack missing its mark by a mile, the Amalgamation found itself crashing into the corridor wall, its already broken form splattering against it like paint. As it pulled itself back together again, Oscar took it as an opportunity to get his own attack off.

With a concentrated expression, Oscar raised a gloved hand towards his opponent, a strange mist emanating from his palm, rapidly floating towards the staggered monster.

Meanwhile, as it finally pulled itself back together after its failed attack, it turned around, likely planning to attack blindly again, however, the second it did, it found itself faced with the gaping maw of a massive canine, complete with a sparkling set of sharp fangs.

Said fangs were quick to snap shut around the Amalgamation, splitting a large chunk of it away as the creature summoned by Oscar disappeared not too long after its attack. Meanwhile, the remains of the Amalgamation broke down into a chunky puddle, and at the center of it, was a glowing orb, a myriad of colors swirling within it.

"Sweet!" Oscar exclaimed with a smile. "How was that?"

"Flawless victory!"

"Well, at the very least, you're not gonna die too quick."

"Oh, crap!" However, Oscar's enthusiasm faded somewhat once he remembered a well-known detail of dealing with Amalgamations. "Wait, we don't have any Cradles, do we?"

"Nah, wasn't really expectin' a Malgy to pop outta the ceiling. But, not to worry! We've got our good ol' Antivirus with us!"

"That nickname will never not be corny..." Mira huffed, and with a wave of his hand, Malware spawned from the ground around the orb, swallowing it whole before disappearing as if it were never there in the first place.

"No way. I think it's awesome!" Oscar and Molly said in unison.

"See? He thinks so too."

"See? She thinks so too."

"...Oh, god, there's two..." Mira muttered. With the sudden arrival of the Amalgamation within the base, Mira had almost forgotten what he had planned for his day from the start, but now that the situation was dealt with, there was only one thing for him to do, "Well, now that that's done with, I'm going to sleep..."

That being to flee to his bedroom as fast as possible, and fortunately for him, Molly was staying put with Oscar, instead opting to wave him off as he went.
