Beauty and the Beast.

Beauty and the Beast.

2 years have gone by quickly and I am now 7 years old.

It was probably the worst period in my life so far...

Every single day I had to wake up and get beaten by Quintus. Every single day Quintus made me do drills to temper my physical body. Everyday I would be covered with bruises and blood only to be healed by a priest that was hired by my father. But everyday I improved and was able to get stronger.

If I didn't have my memories from my previous life I don't know how I would have survived this ordeal. This isn't possible for a 5 year old child. If I was a normal 5 year old kid then I'm pretty sure I would be dead by now.

I not only improved physically but also mentally. I steeled my mind and will and my perseverance increased and my tolerance for pain as well.

I didn't just focus on the sword. Quintus taught me how to fight bare-handed and with multiple weapons such as knives, maces, bow and arrow, and etc.

I was amazed by how much knowledge he had on all sorts of weapons.

When I was about 6 years old I asked my mother to have Alder (my slave) to join me in my lessons because I was feeling a bit sadistic but my mother said no.

So I did the child-like thing and constantly pestered her until she finally agreed to the reason that Alder can protect me when I'm in danger.

When Quintus began teaching Alder along with me I was annoyed that Quintus went so much easier on Alder.... he was nicer too.

This morning my mother brought a thin frail looking man into my room.

His name is Timeon. He is a Grand Mage.

Well. I didn't know what the hell a Grand master mage was so I asked him.

He had a hearty laugh and a deep voice that I didn't expect from such a thin man like him.

"Well you see, my boy. There are 5 ranks that determines the status of a mage. First is the Apprentice Mage, next is the Adept, then Master Mage, then Grand master Mage and finally there is the Archmage."

"As you learn more about the mysteries of magic from me I will determine whether or not you are able to move on to the next stage."

And so from today onward my master Timeon began to teach me magic.

"Magic is a unfathomable subject. There is so much that has yet to be discovered. There are 5 branches of magic:  alchemy, runes, enchanting, contracting and creation. Now, from today onward I am going to teach you the basics of every subject and I expect you to study them well and soon you will determine which branch of magic you wish to continue learning."

Master Timeon was filled with knowledge and he poured his knowledge to me and I found it hard to take in all the information at once.

Basically what I learned today was the summaries of the 5 branches of magic.

The author's tale has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.

Alchemy is the branch of magic where a mage creates potions to heal, poison, curse etc. and other miscellaneous magical items.

Rune carving was actually writing magic, and that written magic can be used for many purposes. For example, if you write the magic word for fire on a piece of paper you drain mana from yourself onto the piece of paper. Now when you are low on mana you can use take out that piece of paper and say the magic word for fire in the magic language and fire will come out.

Apparently its really handy during dangerous situations but rune carving is a very meticulous practice and a single mistake can backfire and kill the magician. So not many people choose to learn this. But there are certain restrictions such as how many times you can use that piece of paper with the magic word on it. It depends on the amount of mana put into the word as it was written on the piece of paper.

Enchanting is the branch of magic where you basically pour your magic into a certain object to give it a certain quality. For example, you can enchant a sword to burn your enemies or freeze them, or you can enchant a normal shirt and make it impenetrable. Of course you need to have a certain level of mastery and an insane amount of mana to make a normal shirt impenetrable.

Next up is contracting. Contracting is when a mage creates a contract with different beings, whether they be spirits, elementals, faeries and other mystical beasts. Contracting is most commonly used for slave marks. But powerful contracters are able to make contracts with powerful spirits and demons and bind them to their will.

And finally creation is where you basically chant the magic words to create a fire ball or whatever you want.

Whew... that was a lot of information. My brain is overloading...

As I leave my room because my lesson ended for the day I see my mother holding hands with a huge burly man.

"Mama, who's that?"

They both turn around and I see the mans face....

Well... he isn't exactly ugly... but if you look up the definition of brute I'm pretty sure his face would come up on it.

He had a large build that mostly consisted of muscle and he had huge arms that were covered with scars and a hairy beard that didn't look attractive at all.

"Come here Ivan. Give your father a hug."

How the hell did mother fall in love with this guy?

I hope I don't grow up to be like him when I grow up.
