Chapter 1 - Prologue

Chapter 1 - Prologue

Right now, I'm in quite the predicament because I didn't wake up in my comfy bed as usual, I instead have woken up on a cold, hard stone alter engraved with some unknown runes.

As I sit up I start to observe my surroundings, from what I can see I seem to be in the middle of a forest like area, but the strange thing is that no trees are growing in the area that the altar is in in fact it seems to make a circle around it. I also start to think about how I could have ended up in this place, but from what I remember I went straight home as I was exhausted from working a late-night shift at my new job and I went to sleep. That's it, I don't remember drinking or having something to eat, I just went straight to sleep.

It's been about 2 minutes now and in that time, I have explored most of the clearing around the alter and from what I can see it's just an old stone alter with some runes which is inside a perfectly circular clearing which is unnatural and itself, but I've also noticed that although I can hear the trees swaying in the wind I haven't a single cry or call from any animals.

Suddenly, just as I was about to leave the clearing a blinding light burst forth from the altar.

"Good morning Vergil, sorry I kept you waiting I was just finishing up my other tasks."

When I turned around to see where the voice coming from I saw that no one was there and that the runes on the altar had started glowing in a faint white light.

"I know you must be confused and have a lot of questions like for example why can't you see me or why did you end up here well, that's why I'm here to answer those questions so ask away but please hurry as neither you or I have all day to spend here."

Currently my mind was moving at a million miles per hour trying to process the situation that I was in, but as soon as he, she, or whatever said that it snapped me out of my trance and I immediately started questioning it.

"OK, let's start with what are you?"

"Very well, I am a guardian. Essentially a guardian is a being created with the sole purpose to guard the universe the works cited in like for example I am the guardian of this universe."

"Alright next question, are you the one that brought me here?"

"Yes, I was the one who brought you here as if I didn't you would have destroyed not only mine but your universe as well."

"How?"

"What."

"How would I have destroyed my own universe and yours for that matter, which by the way I didn't know existed till now?"

"Unfortunately, I cannot share that information with you can only know that the guardian of your Universe and I also agreed it was in our best interest to destroy your physical body and recreate it here."

"So, you won't tell me anything?"

Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.

"Only that it wasn’t your fault and couldn’t have done anything to prevent it other than that I cannot say anything as I promised your universe's Guardian that I wouldn't."

"Fine then I'll move on. So, what happens now?"

"As I said before that this incident was not your fault and that we had to essentially kill you your guardian and I have decided to let you reincarnate into this universe with some extra perks to say sorry for killing you."

"Oh OK, well if it is like that, I will only forgive you on the condition that I get to pick the extras I am reincarnated with."

"That's fine, he has already informed me of how these things normally work in those mate light novels he said you like to read, so go ahead and pick."

As soon as he said those words a blue semi-transparent rectangle appeared before me.

Please select an Innate Skill.

"The Guardian what's and innate skill."

"Right I'm sorry I should have explained let's see, in this world there are skills now I'm like the ones that you're familiar with the skills here cannot level up but they can still grow. Take for example two people with the [Sword Mastery] skill, one who has had it 5 years and one who is just received it. While they both have the same skill the one who has had it for 5 years will be stronger in the fact that they have more experience using it then the other one, but of course in a sword fight the one who is just received it will be able to beat someone who has train with sword for 5 years but doesn't have the skill."

"OK, but what about in innate skills."

"Oops sorry went on a bit of a tangent there, but back to the topic at hand innate skills are skills that one cannot obtain through normal means like for example genetics, completing a certain ritual or the skill holder passing the skill onto you."

"So, if there are skills does that mean there are status screens and can anyone see it."

"Even though there are status screens no sentient creature can see either their or anyone else's, the only way they would be able to see it is through the use of an item specifically made for that purpose. Although I will give you the ability to see your own status screen, but don't get too excited as you can only see your name, age, race, level and skills plus you can’t see anyone else’s."

"Well that kind of sucks but, hey what can you do. So anyway, do I make one up n ow or do I choose from some sort of list?"

"Unfortunately, I just can't let you create any power you want so I will let you pick from these but, mind you each one is powerful in their own right."

Just as he said that, a list of all different innate skills were listed in the same blue semi-transparent rectangle as before.

Please select an Innate Skill.

As I scroll down the list looking at each skills description although nothing seems to really catch my eye they all seem really interesting, as all the exceptionally powerful skills I have come across have a couple of weaknesses to compensate but, since they don't interest me I just keep scrolling down, after a couple seconds I see it, yes, that's the skill I want.

“I choose you.”

You have chosen [Skill Crafting] as an Innate Skill. Are you sure?

*Note that the following rules apply:

Can only craft one skill every 5 levels

Must have required knowledge for crafting to be successful.

Can create both passive and active skills.

All skills created count as Innate Skills.

Can still gain skills normally.

Can still use mana.

Cannot use magic of any kind.

Of course, I click yes as this seems to be the perfect skill for me as it lets me create my own skills and the restrictions are fairly easy to get around especially the part about not being able to use magic.

"Well, I have picked my innate skill and have no more questions I can think of right now so what happens now?"

"Now you start your adventure, goodbye Vergil hope you have an amazing life."

And as soon as he finished speaking I was greeted by the same blinding light as before but this time everything faded to black.
