Should have stayed home or kept quiet

Should have stayed home or kept quiet

Chapter 1

When my friends said that they 'lost' the baseball in the condemned temple nearby, I could tell they were lying. They always say stupid lies knowing my pride would be wounded being called a "coward" so that I would entertain them with stunts. I still did not forget the last one where they bet $100 I would not go in the river when it was a cold November day, in which I unhesitatingly jumped in fully clothed. My sneakers got ruined, hah the long lecture I recieved by a passerby in which my friends escaped with the money! I still didn't get a dime from that bet! Well, I would say I am somewhat lucky in not getting pneumonia as I walked back home in wet clothes for at least half an hour.

I sighed hearing them keep making up an elaborate story on how a baseball accidentally dropped into the building. I doubt they even had a baseball, I never even seen them play ball games! At least make it believable, don't go lying that you 'lost' your gloves and bats in the building too. The town is small so it's not like I have a big selection of friends to play with that are my age, ok? I know they aren't really my friends, but I love surprising them by going along with idiotic stunts. Fortunately, most of the time I come out unscathed, the worst was jumping off the top of the handle bars wrong leaving me in crutches for three months.

Since then it made me a little weary about breaking a leg, really don't want that now it just would make me depressed!

Well, this time I thought it was one of the more reasonable requests, what's the worst that can happen? I mean it's a little worn down but not too dangerous I think, and I am not afraid of ghosts. This request even if it is a lie, there is no reason to not accept this challenge...

I reply to my 'friends', with a brave smile, "Hmph. Of course I will retrieve your poor baseball that 'wandered off'. What's so scary about that building?"

My friends start hurraying and cheering me off as I steadily walk to the building.

Even if I say I bravely accepted, I was level headed so I was a little concerned. The building is condemned so I would of course have to be cautious of rotten wood and rusty nails. I shiver at the thought of the tetanus prone house could hold.

Besides it felt scarier than most "missions" even though it should be more on the safer end. Perhaps I watched too many horror films, it's always abandoned buildings!

The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement.

At least I never heard of this building having any ghosts or other hauntings, yet I still felt that

I should have just kept quiet or stayed at home when my friends called me over.

Its never fun for me when I play their games after all.

I walked through the open doorway when I thought I heard water running.

Is someone using the shower inside?

I searched around the entrance on the off chance there really was a baseball, hopefully I will find a forgotten one around here. Around the entrance seemed like there was nothing but broken gravel and dirt, hah no luck after all?

I heard what sounded like foot steps... it could be wild animals right?

The water sound has stopped, perhaps someone was playing with the spicket outside at the back of the temple.

Still at the entrance, with mild reluctance to explore was surprised at how the building was actually looking in good condition inside compared to the outside. In fact the building seemed like it was lived in if I didn't know better.

Like how there was a futon as well as a working television and game system that was left on.

Wait what?

I was ready to bolt away from the place feeling that ghosts must be pulling a prank, there is no way there is electricity in this old place.

Just before I could move to a sprint from the place I was standing at I felt a wet and cold hand on my shoulder.

I couldn't help but shout out my true thoughts," ghost! Ghost, OMG ghosts are reall!"

I refused to turn around and look at the very real ghost that was forming a puddle on the floor.

The ghost sniffles a little responding back,"I'm not a ghost! What did you expect was living here all these years here, I wouldn't let something as ghosts stay around and ruin my reputation!"

I almost laughed with relief thinking, of course it's not a ghost! Just some freeloading NEET!

The freeloading NEET remarks, "I live here, I am not a freeloading NEET you jerk!"

So you live here for who knows how long without leaving and you aren't a freeloading NEET, spoken like a true freeloader. I forgot that I did trespass in the abandoned temple, and was ready to escape when the freeloader spoke again.

"Haah, you won't believe me,huh! Then I guess I just have to show you now! After all I just can't let you leave after being such a rude and unwanted guest!" shouted the irked lady.
