Chapter 9: Escape

Chapter 9: Escape

Sunlight bathed the entire capital city, reflecting off its imposing walls and the majestic structures like the royal palace. The noble houses proudly displayed expensive and luxurious ornaments, flaunting their power. On the other hand, long rows of apartments lined numerous streets, where commoners who could live well resided, leading decent lives.

The layout of the enormous capital city, housing around a million people, was strongly hierarchical. At the center of it all stood the royal palace, a massive castle surrounded by numerous watchtowers. The castle housed its own barracks, laundry, kitchen, guards, and more.

Surrounding the castle were the noble houses, varying in size and grandeur depending on the rank of the noble. This exclusive area was called "the divine district."

To the north of the city, as if viewed from the sky, lay the celestial district governed by Duke Sttones. To the south was the earthly district governed by Duke Sylver. To the west was the solar district, and to the east, the lunar district, governed by Dukes Sworder and Shielder, respectively.

Each noble house, like the royal palace, was at the center of each district, showcasing its power and nobility. Commoners and merchants often lived around the central area of each district due to its safety, while the poor and marginalized lived on the outskirts, near the massive walls surrounding the capital.

Martin learned this general knowledge from a conversation he had with the teenager named Myriam. Currently, he was in the earthly district, and the elegant lady he had seen hours earlier was none other than the next head of the Sylver household, the rulers of that area.

The girl had lectured and scolded him for his disrespectful behavior but let it slide due to his obvious ignorance, being a foreigner from the desert. The locals believed that people from the desert were uncivilized and stupid, so they tended to be prejudiced when encountering one.

-It's time- Martin stood up and squinted his eyes due to the bright sunlight that was bothering him, along with the logic of this isekai.

This world had prolonged periods of day and night, each lasting for months, which was strange for an isekai since they usually shared a similar function to Earth. While it had similarities like day length, culture, humans, and other things, others were very strange, like the day and night cycle and the machines in the sky that seemed out of place. This, not to mention that the extended periods of sunlight and darkness hadn't melted or frozen the planet as they should have.

"Focus" dispersing the thousands of doubts gnawing at his mind, Martin concentrated on the plan he had ahead. He didn't want to repeat a fatal outcome again; he would have time later to resolve his doubts.

The trio of women were quite drunk, unlike Martin, who hadn't drunk anything. They had stayed watching a street show, clapping and shouting with excitement.

Martin, wearing a paint-stained shirt and shorts, put on a colorful hooded cloak as dictated by the dawn festival. He had taken it from a drunkard who couldn't stand up.

-Just this left- a pair of dark sunglasses could be seen on Martin's face.

-Thank you, gentlemen- with a slight bow, he thanked the drunkards who had "donated" their things.

A man in a cloak, wearing a hood and dark sunglasses, blended into the crowd and disappeared in the blink of an eye. The noisy festival would soon end, and people would return to their everyday lives.

12:00 PM, Sulfur City, Earthly District.

The next day, a woman in her 40s sat on the couch with her head down. Beside her, another woman around 20 also had her head down, not daring to look up. Lastly, a 16-year-old teenager had tearful eyes, looking sadly at the floor. Her eyes were red, and her hair was disheveled.

-I see… lift your heads- the young lady with carefully styled chestnut hair wore an elegant green dress, her face serious and thoughtful. Beside her, the butler stood stoically, like a statue.

The trio of women lifted their gazes with discomfort toward the front, panic evident in their expressions.

-Since it was an unofficial matter, don't worry about reprisals from the Sylver household. However, as Cristina Akalee Sylver, I am deeply disappointed in you. You were only supposed to watch him, but you weren't even aware that he had left.

-Mada-

-Silence, Myriam.

The teenager looked disheartened, tears streaming down her face.

-No more excuses. I'll leave for today; I'll see you tomorrow.

The trio of women bowed deeply, not daring to raise their heads again. The lady and her butler left in silence, saying nothing more.

-What do you think, Graham?

-The boy is quite clever; I'm sure he had it planned from the start.

-I think the same. Can you find him?

-It will take time, Madame, but it can be faster if-

-Don't continue; I don't plan to mobilize the family, or my father will find out. Contact trusted trackers and use the clothes he left behind.

-As you command, Madame.

“I offered my goodwill, and he pays me like this…” a malicious smile formed on the refined girl’s face, feeling betrayed by what had happened.

The duo walked calmly among the drunkards and headed to the silver mansion. Madame Sylver had a tight schedule due to the celebrations and her father's absence. Once the festivities were over and her father returned, she could focus on consolidating and growing her own faction. Unlike other noble houses where heirs fought for power, the Sylver family had only one candidate.

The firstborn of the Sylver family had become a knight at a young age, renouncing his title as the next head of the family.

The second son was born with extraordinary talent in magic, so he was sent to the arcane academy of ethereal and sacred arts, where he graduated with honors and became a professor to continue his magical research.

Therefore, the youngest daughter of the Sylver family was designated as heir and the next head of the family, being educated in etiquette, politics, mathematics, literature, music, arts, and countless other things from a young age.

-Greetings, Madame- a pair of guards in elegant attire bowed to the lady.

The girl responded with a slight nod and easily crossed the entrance. An enormous and beautiful garden welcomed visitors, meticulously cared for, radiating an atmosphere of majesty and beauty.

Behind the beautiful garden, a silver mansion shone under the sun's rays. Numerous windows could be seen at the front, and above the large iron door, a crest made of precious jewels stood tall. The symbol of a silver coin facing a silver crown demonstrated its status.

-Greetings, Madame.

-Good afternoon, Madame.

-Good afternoon, Madame Sylver!

-Good day, Madame Sylver!

Numerous employees and maids bowed their heads and made a reverence at the arrival of the young lady. She was barely in her 20s, but no one saw her as just any young woman, but as a figure of power and respect.

Madame Sylver responded to the greetings with a slight nod and quickly headed to the second floor of the mansion, where her personal study was located. The maids brought her coffee and snacks before leaving.

-Graham, we can't lose that boy. I need to interrogate him and learn more about him.

-I'll go immediately, Madame, but the trackers might not be available right now.

-Hmm… you're right. We've probably come across some lying on the sidewalk. Better go tomorrow; now I need to organize these documents and attend to some appointments in the afternoon.

-Understood, Madame. I'll make the preparations in the meantime- the butler bowed and left the study.

-Ahhhh! That stupid dog! He openly defies me! He'll see when I catch him! HAHAHA- a malevolent smile could be heard inside the study as the young lady cursed out loud.

The maids who heard the outburst swallowed nervously and began to pray silently, gripped by fear. The young lady was quite severe when she got angry.
