Chapter 6

“I want a dog. Or maybe a tiger. Tigers are like cats aren’t they?” Spair rambled as the two of them walked back to their farm. She walked backwards, trying to strike up a conversation with Vel. Not that she was actually paying attention to if he responded.

“Do you think that it has to be a rooster? Could it be a chicken? If it was I bet it would lay eggs. Do you think Divine Beast eggs taste differently from regular eggs?”

“I don’t think they’d lay eggs Spair.”

“How do you know? I bet they enough eggs so that you could have two for every meal. I bet the ram is fluffy. I bet its wool feels like a cloud.”

“And how do you know what a cloud feels like?”

“Like a divine ram. Duh.” Spair dragged out the last word to emphasize the stupidity of Vel’s question.

“I don’t know. At this point I would take any of them.” Vel mumbled quietly. Or at least, he thought so as Spair replied.

If you encounter this narrative on Amazon, note that it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

“Don’t say that. Which one would you want? Probably monkey since it would be your twin.”

“Come on sis, you can do better than that.” Vel said, narrowing his eyes. “You can’t be my actual sister if you’re going to lob such soft balls at me.”

“Well you can’t have pig. They require to eat.” She sassed back.

“Touche.”

They continued is silence for a bit, the noise of their feet on the gravel covering any thoughts they might have.

“I can’t decide. But whatever the animal, it should be pink.”

“Why pink?”

“Because pink is the best color.” Spair spoke with the authority of children everywhere. “Unlike what you’d pick. Probably black or something.”

Vel scoffed at that. “I don’t have a favorite color.”

“You can’t not have a favorite color. It’s against the rules.”

“Well I don’t.” Vel said sullenly. He kicked a rock off the embankment into the ditch. “I just want to become an adult. At this point, I don’t care how.”
