Captain

“Yes Captain!”

“Amber…”

“What is it, Captain?”

Amber's resolute voice quickly replied.

“Please stop, this is embarrassing me…”

“Nonsense, Captain!”

“...”

Pfft-

Hahahaha.

Amber seems to be enjoying herself a lot.

I didn’t realise she was this into roleplay.

Stacy looked on, amused.

Asher decide to let it slide for now.

He yelled to gather attention, “Remember what we’ve practiced, form the pincer movement!”

Everyone took their positions in the formation and braced themselves for what’s to come.

Amber launched up into the air using the momentum of her teammate, then rebounded off a monster’s head with incredible speed. Twirling her hammer in mid-air, she brought it down onto a manticore- SLAM -the beast swatted her away.

Sprawling, the girl quickly sprang back up before staggering forward, coughing, before spitting out blood and a tooth. “Damn it, the boss monster is stronger than I thought!”

Slice! Asher, (whose hair was dyed blond from a potion) swiftly made his way to his party member and cut down a monster pouncing at her. “Amber! Not the time to be complaining!”

“Right Captain! Elijah, could use some help here!” Amber indicated, annoyed that despite what the healer claimed, he was slow to take the hint.

‘Hah. This dude keeps bragging about his breakthrough, I’m surprised he isn’t here to brag about it now.’ Amber grumbled inwardly.

Amber growled with frustration before scanning the battlefield for the incompetent healer.

“Elij- NO WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU ARE DOING!”

“What’s going on?” Asher asked, busy covering for Amber.

“That moron of a healer broke the formation!” the girl gnashed.

The formation was known as the pincer movement, a military maneuver in which forces simultaneously attack both flanks of an enemy formation. This was a classic but effective way to slay beasts in a restricted area.

Elijah, the healer of the group, was a supporting role who was supposed to prioritise helping the front line of defence yet who had instead fled his position due to fear.

Or at least so they thought.

ELIJAH’S POV

I wish it never came to this.

The constant waves of monsters were honestly just too much to handle.

It was slowing down to a trickle of new monsters emerging but that wasn’t the problem.

The ‘boss’ monster of this dungeon was.

Its presence alone turned the tables of the battle, causing the morale of some students to fall.

‘How the hell can we beat something like that…’

Was something along the lines of what they were thinking.

I was starting to think like that too.

It’s pure brute strength was enough to push us all back.

If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the violation.

But that wasn’t even the worst part.

The razor sharp claws and the roars it could produce were rendering some of our main assets unconscious, as well as our overall strength in numbers.

…I miscalculated. By a lot.

And on top of that…

Aiiiii- it’s going to annoy me so much when Asher nags me.

I can practically hear is voice whining, “Eli-jah~ Why didn’t you tell me, foo foo~!”

Okay, that may be slightly tainted with my imagination but I was one-hundred and ten percent sure something along the line of that was going to happen.

I swear this was actually how he used to cry to me when we were kids…

Ah- right. This isn’t the time for reminiscing.

I need to concentrate.

There was no other choice though. Not one that would get us a better result than this at the very least.

I tried to reasoned it out with myself.

I wonder if this is going to work though, otherwise it’s going to be very embarrassing…

Ehhh, I’ll regret whatever option I take anyways. Why not take the risk?

It could just about save our sorry *sses.

Hmm?

I could hear the sounds of screams. Human ones.

Sh*t.

‘Kaida now!’

She nodded at the cue as dragonic mana surged my veins, coursing through my muscles.

CRACKLE- lightning affinity currents surrounded my hands.

Clenching them, I squished the bubble of water and mana in my hands, making it combust. The action sent electric sparks through the air as it met the electric energy, enhancing my strength, especially in my fists further.

I honestly wasn’t that proficient using a lightning attribute but this should be enough to make up for it… hopefully.

Golden scaled molded and grew in my knuckles stretching on to my palms and fingers then the rest of my hand.

My heart beats escalated, as the scales crawled to my elbows.

“SCREEEEEE-” The manticore screeched, causing ripples of sound waves to crash into anything in its way.

I staggered and covered my ears, normally it wouldn't be that hard to resist sound related effects but-

“URKK!”

I started throwing up blood.

This was bothersome.

I… should really hurry. I’m guessing I have around a minute or less.

My body-and my mana level was currently too weak to handle this power for any longer.

My mana and energy were depleting rapidly by the second.

Hurry, Kaida…

CRUNCH. Kaida bit the marble in her mouth, she swallowed Lacey’s mana recovery potions and her mana permeated into me once again along with Lucas’ buffs which aided me too.

I threw a punch-

KABOOM!

A deafening explosion rang out.

The remains of monsters surrounding the boss monster were sent flying across the battlefield, but the main target only sustained hole in his stomach and a lost limb.

Enraged, the manticore screeched once more, this time sending most of the weaker students flying back.

Even then, this provided enough distraction for some of the more able Xira students to turn the tables.

Stacy sent hurricanes of flying icicles that pierced the monster’s side, making it collapse.

The monster attempted to stand back up but Amber split the ground under its feet.

“NOW!”

Most of the other students released their various attacks to eliminate the threat of most of the smaller monsters, carving out a path for Asher.

Not missing a beat, Asher launched himself at the Manticore with the help of a wind ranker.

SLICE-

Asher’s blade, illuminated with light, was brought down onto the manticore’s head.

The dark energy of the boss monster must of sustained the life of the other monsters as they started collapsing and crumbling to dust.

“...”

“OH MY GOD WE DID IT!”

“ASHER JUST FINISHED OFF A DUNGEON BOSS MONSTER!”

“AMBER LOOKED SO COOL!”

“DID YOU SEE STACY’S ICICLES?”

“THANK GOD!”

“WE SURVIVED A DUNGEON BREAKOUT!”

Everyone broke out into cheers and sobs as everyone celebrated joyously.

Most of them laid down on the ground for a well-deserved break as others tried to patch up their (more seriously injured) friends.

The noise died down by a substantial amount as everyone turned to face the Professors.

“I admit, I wasn’t expecting no deaths.” Professor Kyle’s voice rang out from behind.

“I must say, I applaud your efforts.” The Head agreed, but her expression said otherwise, betraying her thoughts. She was clearly not impressed whatsoever.

Felicity offered, “Does anyone need healing?”

“...”

“What?”

“...”

“You don’t want healing from THE Felicity? You’re all insane!”

Professor Kyle sighed, “You’re a necromancer, of course no one wants healing from you…”

“I do know a bit of healing, okay? I use it to heal my precious undead!”

“...”

Professor Felicity slapped on some surgical gloves, “Who’s first?”

“...”

“I know you guys all want to experience my awesome skills, but someone needs to go first you know.”

The Head teacher sighed in exhaustion, “You deal with the dead, and you expect someone to put their trust in you to heal them?”

“What? Necromancy is just late healing!”

“...”

“What’s that look for!?”
