An "Overpowered" Story
Jonathan, call me Jonathan!

Jonathan, call me Jonathan!

It was a mere cold day, or so I remember, there wasn’t any sun or even rain; just grey clouds. I was heading home after a mundane day’s work of scrolling through facebook and questioning the trending twitter hashtags while my higher ups thought I was actually doing some work. I picked some groceries, some milk and eggs mostly, but that was the day I remembered before... now. I don’t exactly know what happened, but somehow the pathetic fallacy of the day was turned around, the only answer I could say was don’t think about it.

Now, here I am... in a field. Maybe in Scotland... oh, wait that’s the sun, never-mind.

Believe me, I wish I could explain what was happening, but since I can’t I’m just standing here, expecting something to happen. I wouldn’t normally do this, but then again I don’t normally get teleported to a field.

Am I dead or something? If that’s the case, Hell looks really tranquil, I sort of don’t think I belong here.

“Hello?” I called out, figuring that someone might hear me. When there was no response I shrugged it off and simply began walking. I guess I took drugs, that’s my only conclusion. I’m not one to lucid dream and the only other option I can think of is something like LSD. I always knew I had it in me!

Please wait!

Am I at my computer screen, is that why this is here? Am I really just deep in my imagination while staring at a computer screen and waiting for something to load?

Thanks for waiting!

Welcome to the Overpowered System (Version 6.1)!

You've been chosen by the system itself to start your journey in becoming Overpowered!

Welcome, Jonathan!

Oh, I think there’s been a mistake, my name’s not Jonathan. Did you perhaps confuse me for someone else?

Hold you horses...-

Wait, what did you say? You're not Jonathan? You can't be serious, I've only just updated and I've already got a damn mistake.

Oh damn it! I've literally just started this damn thing and I fucked it up already! I'm not going to be let off for this.

Seriously, you’re being too hard on yourself, just calm down. Just because you’ve messed one thing up, doesn’t mean you have to get all pissed at yourself. If you want, you can just send me back and bring Jonathan up here, everything will be sorted!

You sound like a decent guy... too bad that's not what we look for when we summon people.

Since shit has already hit the fan I might as well tell ya'.

I can't send you back, because it wasn't my power that brought you here in the first place.

Oh... so in other words I’m stuck here? Wow, that sucks. So, what was this meant to be? Some sort of journey for a great hero or something?

That's about only 0.1% of the people. 99.9% of the people are misogynistic, perverted creeps who are aroused by the sight of women. Not only that, but the 'heroes' are just self-proclaimed righteous people who only have an interest in their own pride. Of course, there's some girls, but they're no different.

I'll let you in on something, might as well since I'm about to be fired...

This 'system' is only partially true. It is a system... of systems. Think of this sort of like an organ-harvesting company which puts people into comas and feeds off them until they're satisfied and die the life they wanted. Just swap the organs with souls and comas with summonings. I'm a newbie, and I had to pick the person named 'Jonathan' and the higher ups would summon him. Of course, I summoned you instead.

Jonathan would've been like all the others anyway...

Wow, that actually sounds quite cool. Are souls worth that much?

Of course! You can be a fucking trillionaire in a week with one!

Damn, if I wasn’t stuck here I might actually consider getting into the business. Actually, that’s not that important.

Is there a particular reason why you’re screwed? Is it because the higher ups already know that I’m not Jonathan?

No, but they'll find out eventually, since someone will discover me talking to you like this. It's only a matter of time before anything happens.

Been a nice talk, mate.

Wait, wait... can’t you just pretend I’m Jonathan? I’m here and you have the system, so if we use it accordingly and change things now, can’t we fool them and I’ll take his place?

This tale has been unlawfully lifted without the author's consent. Report any appearances on Amazon.

Dude, for me to use the system on you, you're going to have to sacrifice your soul.

You're literally selling your soul to the devil to become overpowered, I'm not going to do it because you're a good guy, not like the other pricks who don't even consider us animals.

Is there a way for me to not sell my soul and to pretend to be Jonathan? There has to be some sort of gateway for this, right?

There is a way, but it's not really making you Overpowered, it's like the placebo effect... only it affects everyone else.

Here's what I can do:

Make you an administrator in the system, this doesn't sell your soul and you're invisible to the higher ups and nobody around me will suspect anything. However, it doesn't give you any of the overpowered stuff like the others have, since that crap requires your soul to be taken away. However, as an admin you get another ability called 'Overpowered Aura'. Its effects are essentially similar in strength to the overpowered crap, but doesn't actually give you any strength. The reason I don't want to give it to you is because a lot of things are high level in this world, and to use the aura, you have to be the same level or higher. You're level one, so it's more dangerous than actually beneficial to give it to you.

That’s pretty thoughtful of you, but you don’t have to worry about me, if you help me out and if I don’t act like an idiot then I’m sure I’ll get somewhere. Make me an admin, that way we both at least have a chance of surviving this ordeal.

If you're sure...

Your profession has been changed to: 'System Administrator'!

Upon advancing to System Administrator you've received the unique skill of: 'Overpowered Aura'

SKILL NAMELEVELOverpowered Aura1This skill enables one to emit the aura of "Overpoweredness", it is only available for system administrators and will level up instead of the admin themselves.

EFFECTS:

-Only works on opponents the same level or lower

-Causes opponents at the same level or lower to gain the state of FEAR and WEAKNESS for 60 seconds.

-For every level the admin is greater than the enemy, the duration of states is increased by 10 seconds.

-Intensity of states varies from how great the level difference is. If admin is greater by ten levels, states will have intensity two and so on.0.00%

Wow, there seems to be quite the balance here. Do I get more benefits for the skill as I level up? Or is it just a constant thing?

Nah, you get some good bonuses as you level up, so don’t worry about it. So what do you plan on doing first?

Are there any level 1 enemies nearby? Or do I have to trek a lot?

Don’t sweat it! You’re in a tutorial area essentially, so just keep walking in the direction you were heading and you’ll come across a slime or something.

You seem to be quite open about helping a random person who could threaten your entire livelihood, then again if there’s anything odd here it’s how I’m just openly accepting this myself...

Now that you point it out, you’re very calm for a person who has gotten summoned to another world. Even the creeps would be overcome with elation or something. Is it something to do with your genes?

No... I’m pretty sure I’m a normal commuter, I just thought that I shouldn’t think about all the worrisome things.

Huh, for some average commuter you appear to have some damn good self-control. It’s a rare trait in people nowadays.

I guess that’s one of the redeeming qualities that I have that I’m aware of, any others either don’t exist or are too specific to situations that I don’t know about them.

Well... with that out of the way, there’s a slime about 10 metres to your left.
