The humans call me Nemon Fargus. They call me wizard, and [Elementalist] and [Enchanter]. They call me teacher. They call me adventurer.
But I don't care. Not anymore. For more than a hundred and fifty years I've served the Kingdom of Sena. Through four Kings and a Queen. Two wars and a rebellion. I've founded and taught at a magic school. I've fought against beast waves and dungeon breaks.
But now? Now, the one close friend I had left has passed. So, I'm done with their politics and their economics. The short and busy lives of humans are more burden than benefit on the weary soul of this half-elf. Now, I'm looking for a refuge, a place that can well and truly be my own. Away from the growing cities and the bustling markets, away the pointless wars, away from the eager students and the arrogant adventurers. It's too much.
I'm seeking the peaceful life of a wizard in his tower, studying magic to advance my spellcraft. We'll see if that happens.

So, what's going to happen to Charles' story you ask? Good question! If you've read the whole story, I hoped you found it enjoyable and I greatly appreciate the time you took to read it.
With this story, I learned a lot about writing in general and publishing a web serial. I had a lot of fun doing it, too. For readers who noticed, I tried to keep the humor in this story situational, so that if it gets eventually translated to another language that humor would hopefully carry over. Not that it will, just a distant hope for the future.
I never intended the story to go on forever and ever as some web novels do. An Old Man's Journey was started with a certain imagined endpoint. That doesn't mean that I'm satisfied with the ending, because I'm not. (Yes, I realize I'm the author and can change it, lol)
At some point, I'm going to edit An Old Man's Journey. A lot will likely get re-written newer, better, even funnier. The ending will likely get changed--some. I realize there are rough spots in the story that need to be smoothed. The bad guy will still get it in the end, but I notice that a lot of feedback is reflective of disappointment in Charles not making it, but I'm not sure what will be a better ending... yet.
If you want, feel free to use the comments below to tell me what you think: the good, the bad, the stupid, the ugly. Things that you think would make it better. Things you think would make it worse. The ending you wish it had. Imagined scenes with Charles interacting with other characters. I'm open to ideas.
