An average villager

"Hey Rashid are you in?"

The familiar voice of Kristoff could be heard from the outside as I was preparing to head out to start working on the farms, I still wonder from time to time why do we even bother on working in them if we know that those who work for the empire will come and tax us for more than half of our harvest. But well, I guess is better than whatever they would do if they didn't recieve what they wanted.

"Haa, hey Kristoff. I will always wonder how are you so energetic so early in the morning." I greet Kristoff as I was getting out of my house and started heading to the farms.

"Ehh, one just gets used to it after doing this in a day to day basis you know. I'd like to ask you how you are always so tired, but I guess that you would just explain that as that you are just always tired." Kristoff retorted back to my usual comment.

"Anyways, the faster we finish working the earlier we can go and fool around you know?, and maybe find a girl or two who'd like to fool around with us." He said as he was grinning like a fool at his own comment.

"You know perfectly well that no woman of our age in our village would bother 'fooling' around with you. And in that way I don't even want to know what you mean by 'we can go fool around.'" I answered him back as I was glaring at him before we kept walking until we finally arrived at the farms.

The day went by quickly as it always does while one works on the farms also, although I hate to admit it, but the dumb conversations that Kristoff comes up with does help to get my mind off work and makes time pass faster. As we finished what we needed to do faster than I thought that we would take we decided to go out hunting, that way we could have a better dinner with the meat of the prey and some pelt to sell for the merchants that pass through from time to time.

Even if it doesn't look like it, I'd consider myself a pretty good swordsman. And also despite of how he looks Kristoff is a decent magician, I was really surprised when I heard that he was capable of using magic since I never was able to get the grasp of it, which kinds of annoys me.

Although we never went to the capital to test in what rank his magic would fall in, mostly because of traveling expenses, all we cared for was that he could use it. The element that he is able to use is fire magic which if you ask me, fits quite well with his personality.

Now that I think about it, I think that I've heard that there are 3 other elements, so 4 elements in total which represent Fire, Water, Air and Earth. Also there is some kind of ranking but never got too interested on it since I wasn't able to use magic. Well going back to the hunting topic, we've been hunting for what would seem quite the time as the sun was about to set in, we were quite lucky to hunt some Raxis and Leemz which have a pretty tasty meat, and I've heard that Raxis fur is quite popular for warm clothing which is good since it is almost Dimra, so it would be nice to get some warm clothing before it gets cold. Right now we were already heading back from our hunt.

"Hey Kristoff, about your comment in the morning. Did you already give up about getting together with my sister?" I asked as we were heading back.

"Eh?, no. It's not like that, it's just that your sister just cares too much for you to see anyone else in a romantic way." He responded as his face hinted to some sadness behind his words.

We were talking about my sister, Zonya, who Kristoff has romantic feelings for. Though I wouldn't really mind if they got together, but for some reason my sister doesn't really seem to have any romantic feelings for anyone in the village.

"Hey... look in that bush, isn't that a piece of cloth?" Kristoff suddenly commented as I was lost in my thoughts.

As I shifted my focus to the what he pointed out, I noticed a piece of cloth stuck in one of the bushes a bit further ahead of us.

"It is... and is leaving some traces heading further inside the forest, it also seems like it was in a hurry."

"I think we should check it out, I have a bad feeling that it might have been one of the kids who decided to venture into the forest."

We quickly followed the traces left behind and began to notice more small footprints, broken branches and more pieces of cloth stuck in them. After some time we finally reached the point where it led to.

And it wasn't a sight one would like to see if you ask me.

What we saw there was a view that would traumatize some people, it was the sight of some creatures as small as child but with green skin and long canines, some creatures that me and Kristoff recognized as goblins were eating the remains of what seemed to be a child of our village.

We quickly sprung into action as I took my sword and Kristoff began chanting one of his spells, we knew that we couldn't save the child at this point. But the fury of what had happened to a kid was what drove us to fight the monsters. As we got the advantage of ambushing them while they were occupied eating the remains of the child we quickly got rid of most of them and began fighting the ones remaining.

The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

The fight ended quickly as I sliced through two or more of them with one swing and Kristoff took care of them from afar with his magic. We looked back at the remains of the kid.

There was big cut from the chest to the stomach, as they were eating the insides of the poor child. It also had its extremities amputated with bite marks on them, we could even see the bone in some parts of the arms and legs, they also seem to find the eyes and the tongue as some kind of delicacy since they had gouged out the eyes and the tongue was missing, and the face wasn't exempt of the bite marks that the rest of the body had.

Since I couldn't keep looking at it I quickly turned my head around and began to make a hole with the shovels we brought as it was customary to always place the bodies underneath the earth so that no more monsters would be attracted to the odor of the putrefaction and blood of the corpse.

After burying the corpse of what once was the small child, and burning the bodies of the goblins. We started heading back with a foul mood.

When we were heading back we met up with a search party for the lost child and told them what we saw to them, after we said it one of the adults fell to the ground and started crying saying that he should have noticed sooner and other incomprehensible words. That child was Lloyk and Larya's son, huh. I'm sorry I couldn't recognize him after the state those monsters left him in.

As the rest of the rescue party helped Lloyk get back on his feet and walk him to the village, we finally arrived and this time I got to see the mother cry after listening about his son's death. We explained that we couldn't bring the corpse back because of the state the body was in and reminded the kids of the village why it is that you should never get near the forest unless there is more than one adult near you.

Because of this incident a meeting was held in the mayor's house in which a party to subjugate nearby goblins was formed with me and Kristoff included, we always knew that there was a goblins settlement nearby but were never able to pinpoint its location, so i guess that after the events of today the mayor will also go to the capital's adventurer guild to ask for some help. From tomorrow on me, Kristoff and other villagers who could use a sword or bow were exempted from the farm work to begin the hunt for goblins.

I started heading back to my house and greeted some of the villagers that I passed.

When I finally reached home I was greeted by my sister Zonya, honestly I'm surprised of how much of a beauty she has become in these recent years. I still somewhat remember her as the small kid that she was when we were younger, nothing alike as how she is now. If I wasn't her brother I'm sure I'd be in love with her.

"I heard about what happened today brother, are you well?" My sister asked clearly preoccupied for me.

"Yeah, I am. But I don't matter compared with what happened today. I'm pretty sure Lloyk and Larya are in a much worst condition than whatever I could be feeling on the matter right now."

"I know that... but you know that I really just think about your well being." She said with a small smile on her face. I truly wonder sometimes if this girl does really have any kind of feeling for other people besides the two of us. And I don't even understand how she came to be this way.

"Yeah, that's what you always say. But you know that you don't need to worry so much about me, I do have quite the confidence in my strength you know?. Also I doubt there is anyone in the village who actually resents me."

The conversation keep going for a bit until we decided to prepare the meat that we got from hunting along with some herbs that I also picked up along the way. One would think that we would need to be more wary because of what happened today. But I honestly ain't that surprised of what happened. I mean, we are just normal village that's a bit closer to the edge of the territory between Romid and Elystia. Also this wasn't the first time something like this happened here.

Anyways, I'm just the average villager that anyone can find in any village, but well. I guess that from tomorrow on my daily routine will change.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I started writing this at 2 a.m. also my writing might not be as good as other in comparison, but i guess that's to be expected of someone who just posted his first story that began to be written at 2 a.m in the morning, right?

Anyways, as I mentioned. This is my first time writing some sort story so please be blunt with your feedback, critics and stuff like that.

Also, I would not expect for chapters to be released soon after each other as I'm quite the lazy person.
