Two days had passed since our return from the labyrinth. After we safely got back to Caeloria, the rewards had been promptly handed out, adding on my 'trauma care fee' and I ended up with slightly over 30 gold coins. At the current market rate, that would be a couple thousands of silver coins, an amount that would no doubt let me live comfortably for many years to come. Following our return, we all went our separate ways, seeking to unwind after the arduous adventure. I had checked back into the Slumbering Bear inn and spent most of my time relaxing, soaking in the nearby bathhouse, lazing around in bed, or chowing down on tasty food.
But today, I felt more adventurous. It is time to go out and explore a bit. With my newfound wealth, I went around shopping on the main streets of Caeloria’s inner city. The city was bustling as always, filled with merchants hawking their goods and people hustling and bustling about. I could smell fresh bread from the bakery, see colourful bolts of cloth displayed in the tailor's window, and hear the cheerful banter of the market traders.
I would also occasionally see magicians roaming about, some even flying through the air, speedily avoiding all on road traffic. While their race, age, and looks all differed, the one thing they all had in common was their attire; they all wore a set of robes and hat. It seems to be a proper magician, one needed the proper magicians’ garbs. And since I was a proper magician, I needed to go clothes shopping.
Convinced, I began searching for a clothing store that carried magicians’ wear, totally ignoring the fact that normal clothed magicians could exist too, I just wouldn’t recognize them.
Spotting a somewhat luxurious looking clothing store with an assortment of magician hats and robes on display, I walked in. The store clerk, a middle-aged woman in a magician’s outfit herself, introduced me to all sorts of fabrics and outfits that I never even knew existed. As my mind was going dizzy from all this information, my eyes were drawn to a beautiful blue gown tailored for a magician.
It was mainly blue, the white inner layer and golden accents complementing it perfectly. The hat was quite a statement piece, wide with a pointy tip that slightly drooped, a golden band wrapping around its base. The blue robe-like outer layer flowed down to the knees, featuring a raised collar and wide sleeves at the end. The inner dress was more form-fitting, but not too tight that it restricted movement, ending just above the thighs.
"Ah, this exquisite masterpiece" the salesperson began, her voice rich with admiration, "is a marvel of craftsmanship by the legendary Alvarian artisans. It is woven from the luxurious Ardenian wool, famous for its unrivaled softness and comfort. But that's not all, my dear. This gown has been meticulously intertwined with the renowned mythril threads from Sunan, giving it an enchanting shimmer that is simply unmatched."
She delicately ran her hand over the robes, her eyes gleaming with an almost reverent pride. "This isn't just a piece of clothing, it's an armor in disguise. Imagine this - supreme protection against the raging flames of fire, the drenching torrents of water, and even the threatening slashes and stabs of deadly blades. And despite all that, it doesn't sacrifice an ounce of comfort or luxury."
She lowered her voice conspiratorially, a secretive smile playing on her lips, "And the magic it holds... Oh, the magic! This magnificent set utilizes Lorendor’s latest magical innovation, capable of harnessing the wearer's mana to regulate its temperature. It wraps you in a cozy warmth on a chilly day and keeps you refreshingly cool under the scorching sun. All this, without you having to cast a single spell."

Her voice rang clear and enticing in the store, her passion infectious. "It's not just a set of robes, dear. It's an asset, a companion, a statement. Donning this gown is embracing the true essence of a magician. It's strength, it's elegance, it's magic!"
However, this luxury came with a hefty price tag of 27 gold coins.
Seeing my hesitation, the saleswoman seized the moment and sweetened the deal. Her eyes sparkled with an enticing business smile as she said, "You know, this gown would pair impeccably with some of our other fine clothing. And as a token of our appreciation for your interest, I'd be more than happy to offer you a complimentary set."
My eyes widened slightly at the proposal, I wanted to know more.
"We've got the most luxurious undergarments you could ask for, made from the same Alvarian silk that's used in the dress. They're incredibly soft and comfortable. It'll be like wearing a cloud" she said, emphasizing the last word with a soft, airy gesture of her hands. She even brought out a set to let me feel.
‘It’s so soft.’ I thought as I rubbed my fingers along the fabric.
"And let's not forget about our exquisite Alvarian silk socks that keep your feet warm and snug, perfect for those chilly adventures" she continued, her tone brimming with excitement, "And these boots" she paused dramatically, picking up a pair of tall leather boots and presenting them to me. "Hand-crafted from some of this country’s finest leather, these boots are not only durable but also add a sophisticated touch to the outfit. All of this, a gift from us, should you decide to purchase the robes."
I was sold, but right before I purchased the clothing…
“I told you I recognized this beggar!” Finn’s voice boomed loudly in this otherwise quiet store. “What are you up to Alythia?” Finn asked as he enthusiastically patted my back, Elara beside him.
I was taken aback. Indignant, I retorted, "I am not a beggar, Finn!" Then, in a fit of defiance, I hurriedly gave the salesperson the money before marching into the dressing room to change. Changing into the gown, I felt a surge of satisfaction wash over me. 'This was worth it' I thought, admiring my reflection in the mirror. My new outfit elicited gasps and praises from Finn and Elara.
Walking with them down the busy streets, I asked them “What were you two doing?” Elara responded by holding up her newly repaired mythril short sword while Finn showed off his new sword. "Just got this beauty. Look, it’s made entirely from true silver. I even got them to coat it with some core dust" Finn rambled, unable to suppress his excitement.
I barely paid him any mind, turning my attention to Elara. I asked her what their plans were. "Well, we bumped into each other earlier and were thinking of forming a party. We were thinking of asking you and Rurik next.”
“Sure!” I agreed without hesitation.
A party huh, excitement bubbling within me. We had already been through a life and death adventure earlier so they would definitely be my first pick as future travel companions. However, a bucket of water was poured over my enthusiasm when we got to the inn Rurik was staying at.
"Oh, Rurik? Good fella, doesn't cause any trouble," he paused, glancing over at the logbook next to him. "Checked out yesterday morning. Didn't leave any messages or the like." He leaned back, propping his hands on his hips. "Always coming and going without much fuss. A good patron, always pays on time. I'm afraid I can't tell you more." he shrugged apologetically. "Don't know where he went, don't know when he'll be back.
