I took a deep breath in as my Sapling grew, levelling up into the Plantling stage. The world grew clearer, my thoughts sped up, I could feel my muscles strengthening well beyond what any normal person could have.

But that was not my focus right now, what I wanted to know was this, why exactly had my level up been archived and exactly how many stats I had now. System show status.

And that's what I call growing without knowing it. I had absolutely no idea when and how I had gained that many stats. I had stats in the 70s somehow. System, how many stats were archived?

A total of 4 stats per stat were archived.

Okay, I needed to find out what exactly the System was doing. But first deal with the meeting I had called.

“I apologize, I must shorten this meeting due to the System being a bit iffy with me. To be concise, there are several problems in the duchy at the moment, there is the constant threat from the forest, especially considering that the most of the duchy’s military power is on the other side of the duchy.” I began.

Ensure your favorite authors get the support they deserve. Read this novel on Royal Road.

“Any beast horde will first devastate our food source and then encounter any major resistance. To combat this I suggest building a fortress near the forest. That fortress allows for easier access to the forest for people to hunt beasts, safety against the forest and reduce the current extreme concentration of power.” I finished.

“I agree that there needs to be some form of military establishment near the forest, but a fortress may be beyond the duchy’s finances, your grace, a camp may be better suited at the moment.” Aswelth chimed in.

“That can be discussed later, but on to my second point. The guard. At this moment every guard has too many duties. That is why I propose splitting it in three sections. The First is the Ducal Guard, which Aswelth will command and will be the Duchy’s military.”

“Next is the Administrative wing, which will be responsible for the administration of the duchy. Every official in the duchy should be a part of this guard. The financial well-being of the duchy and its residents will also be taken care of by the Administrative wing.”

And now for the eureka of yesterday's musings, the culmination of far too many kingdom building novels, watching my dad run his company and organizing school functions, “The third is the Adventurers Guild. As the duchy progresses, numerous ‘miscellaneous’ things will come up.”

“What the new cultivators do at the farms for instance is an excellent example, it is something absolutely necessary but horribly unregulated. At the moment it operates out of the fact that the cultivators were farmers just a few days ago. But what happens when one of them gets greedy? Does less work? How do the farmers appeal? Can they even appeal? It is not as if they have an agreement of how much exactly the cultivator is to do.”

“And that is where the Guild comes in. Let all the cultivators register in the Guild and all the requests have to go through it. A notice board of sorts can be created where anyone can post jobs with set parameters of what the Guild member is to do and exactly how much they will earn.”

“This can also serve as a screening medium for the Ducal guard wherein we absorb the best of the Guild Members. Not only that, there are just so many things a cultivator can do much easier than a mortal. Building houses, roads, and anything is easy for Earth cultivators. Water cultivators can remove ice at rates far faster than any mortal.” I said.

“Um, your grace, that would cause a complete loss of all mortal jobs. Cultivators would become the preferred alternative.”

“ I agree, there are a few ways to solve that. One solution would be to set apart certain fields that only a mortal may do, this would give them a source of income. But it has the con of causing the creation of a lesser class. That is something we need to avoid.”

“ As such, I suggest that we create a plan to make every person in the city a cultivator. It has the added benefit of severely culling the growth of beasts in the forest. Of course, trust issues also emerge, while a cultivator can do a lot of good, a lot of harm may also emerge from their actions.”

“The Guild will again be useful in such things, a subsection of the guild can be ‘members-in-training’ where trusted members can use tests and training to filter out bad actors.”

“ I would recommend that the full screening be a two tiered process, first the applicants must pass the first tier of training and gain a cultivation, but a second, secret tier, where Guild members assess their actions after gaining power. This reduces the possibility of someone acting their way in and then becoming power hungry the second they gain a cultivation.”

“This way we can apprehend them before they do too much harm. Of course this also means that we need a crop of experienced and trusted people that can assess applicants in an impartial manner. A slow start may be in order, maintaining a minimum trainer to applicant ratio will be necessary.” I finished.

“Then we have judicial and education systems that need to be made-” I began my next point before I was interrupted by Aswelth

“And we need more administrators, your grace, if Kerrin is leaving then the two of us will not be enough to take care of all of these parts.” Aswelth noted.

“Yes? That is what the Administrative Wing is for, Aswelth. Don’t worry, you won’t have to deal with all of this. I plan to go on a recruiting spree, and besides, all of this will have to be implemented slowly, or it will be a mess. What we have to do now is work towards it.”

“And for my next point, we require Judicial and Educational systems in place post-haste, I had hoped that Kerrin would take charge of it, but that will likely not happen now. There need to be people that we can trust in these locations. That is where you come in, Aswelth, you have the best idea of how trustworthy guard members are. Can you get me some names for these positions?” I asked.

“Yes, your grace, that I can do.” Aswelth answered. Somehow, I got the feeling that the General had not thought of exactly how much work went into managing a duchy properly.

“That is all for now, but we do need to do something about the large difference between cost of life and average income. If left unchecked until the merchants catch wind of it, we will have excessive inflation in our hands.” I said as Aswelth got up and walked out of the treehouse, a terrified expression on his face.

I think I just discovered Aswelth’s weak point, paperwork. But I now had a System to deal with. This had been a busy day, wasn’t it? Well, nothing I could do about it. System, how are stat increases calculated? Please specify the formula.

Stat increases are calculated for small realms according to the formula

t*b*2^(f-2)

Where b = the base number, i.e., 1

t= the effective threshold value, i.e 2 + 1(from [Royalty] trait) =3

And f= the large realm it is in, i.e 3

Any exponential values in negative will cause no stats to be assigned.

Applying values we have;

3*1*2^(1)=6 stats each small realm in the Plantling realm.

Ah, math, my old enemy. I am absolutely furious that I can not only interpret this formula but find it very simple. Why did I have to learn things like Integral Calculus when even the System could make do with using simple algebra? Whatever, what are the stats for large realms System?

Stat allocation for large realms proceeds in a much simpler fashion,

b*2*f*t

The variables hold the same meaning as the small realm formula, with stats being assigned at the end of each great realm.

b= 3

f=2

t= (2+1)=3

And there was that. Even simpler huh. But I had a burning question. What exactly do these stats do, System?

The stats increase hosts’ capabilities in particular fields in a non-quantifiable manner. Any further information on this matter has been blocked. Please raise your access level for any further information.

Okie, all information has been gained now, then I can ask a very important question. System, why and how exactly did my level up get archived?
